The magazine title ‘Kerrang’ has it’s own font. It resembles broken/shattered
glass which relates to the rock/punk genre of music featured in the magazine.
Also, the title ‘kerrang’ sounds like a sound a guitar makes when said out
loud, this also relates the magazines genre as guitars are conventional
                                                                   features of rock music.

The main image is of a well-known british rock band ‘you me at six’. The
image overlaps the magazine title like done on most magazines. Also, all the
band members are posing positively and using direct gaze. This makes the
readers feel more comfortable as they are happy looking and makes them
feel more connected and closer to their favourite bands.

There are puffs, that advertise things included in the magazine to intrigue
readers to want to buy it because ‘free’ makes them feel like they’re getting
their moneys worth kind of so they want it more.

The main cover-line relates to the main image and shows the reader the main
                                                                   story for this issue.

There is a barcode, issue information and the issue number.

They show other stories/articles included in the magazine to interest more
people. And show what other bands are mentioned in the magazine around
                                                                   the cover.

The ‘you me at six’ is big and bold and catches the readers attention at first
glance to reveal what it is about.

There are buzzwords such as ‘plus’ and ‘special’ which make the reader feel
like they are getting the most information they can get.
Features from this front cover that i would use on my own
are; the idea of the title of the magazine being closely related The layout of the magazine is quite busy and easily understood at the same
to the style of music featured. time. It is a youthful type of layout to keep young people interested in it.

The colour scheme is basically black, white, yellow, green and red. They are
used in certain places to make different bits stand out. For example the
yellow is used on the main cover line so that it is more eye catching than the
                                                                   rest of the cover lines.
In the top left corner, there is an editors note. This makes the
reader feel more personal towards the editor and makes them feel
like they know them.

There are sub-headings for each section of the contents. This is
good so that it is easer for the reader to find what they’re looking
for.

The layout of the contents is quite simple and easily understood.
This is good because the reader will find it easier to see and find
things on this contents page.

There speech insights from the magazine below ‘contents’. This
gives the reader an idea or cliff hanger of a story within the issue
and makes them want to read on into it.

The images have page numbers on them, which often happens on
most contents pages. The layout of the pictures is quite simple and
straight forward.

They are advertising for the magazine to get delivered to people to
save money. This is a puff and intrigues readers as getting things
cheaper generally appeals to most people.

The colour scheme of the contents is similar to the front cover. It
uses colours from the contents. Yellow, black, white and red.

There is an issue number, and date on this contents.

From this contents, features such as the layout of the images
appeals to me and i could do something similar in my own
magazine. I think it is good that there is one larger image and
smaller ones around it.
I also like the speech/quote from an story within the magazine
because it makes the reader want to read on and that is what
magazines basically try to do..
The word ‘News’ and the article title is in the font of
the kerrang magazine title. This is showing that
features of the magazine carries on throughout the
                                                                                             magazine.

There is a site link to www.kerrang.com this gives the
reader another place to find information about the
                                                                                             kerrang magazine.

The buzzword ‘world exclusive’ will make the reader
want to read this particular story because it is
‘exclusive’ and the reader feels like they’re reading
something not many people will know about unless
                                                                                             they’ve read this certain magazine.

There isn’t too much or too little text, this is good for
young readers that will buy this magazine because if
they don’t like reading (which most do not) then they
do not have to read much to know about this story.
There is a quote from the text “we’re being the best
mcr we can be!’ this makes the reader want to know
what this quote is linked to or about and intrigues
                                                                                             them more into reading this.

The black and white images make the title of the story
stand out because it is red and white.
From this double page spread, i would consider using features such as the amount of text
There is the large image of the singer of the band on
on the page because it is a good amount to have for the target audience of my own
the left –a medium shot- and then close ups of the
magazine.
band at the bottom of the page. This shows them
I would also consider using the contrast of colours this page has used, especially against
playing live and shows them working together at a
the black background if it works with my magazine.
recording studio. And the way that they’re captured in
the images shows that they are passionate about their
music and are working hard on it.

The words ‘the best mcr’ are larger than the rest, this
is so that it stands out to the reader that this band is
being ‘the best’ and it would be worthwhile reading
about them if the reader doesn’t already know who
                                                                                             they are.

Kerrang magazine

  • 1.
  • 2. The magazine title ‘Kerrang’ has it’s own font. It resembles broken/shattered glass which relates to the rock/punk genre of music featured in the magazine. Also, the title ‘kerrang’ sounds like a sound a guitar makes when said out loud, this also relates the magazines genre as guitars are conventional features of rock music. The main image is of a well-known british rock band ‘you me at six’. The image overlaps the magazine title like done on most magazines. Also, all the band members are posing positively and using direct gaze. This makes the readers feel more comfortable as they are happy looking and makes them feel more connected and closer to their favourite bands. There are puffs, that advertise things included in the magazine to intrigue readers to want to buy it because ‘free’ makes them feel like they’re getting their moneys worth kind of so they want it more. The main cover-line relates to the main image and shows the reader the main story for this issue. There is a barcode, issue information and the issue number. They show other stories/articles included in the magazine to interest more people. And show what other bands are mentioned in the magazine around the cover. The ‘you me at six’ is big and bold and catches the readers attention at first glance to reveal what it is about. There are buzzwords such as ‘plus’ and ‘special’ which make the reader feel like they are getting the most information they can get. Features from this front cover that i would use on my own are; the idea of the title of the magazine being closely related The layout of the magazine is quite busy and easily understood at the same to the style of music featured. time. It is a youthful type of layout to keep young people interested in it. The colour scheme is basically black, white, yellow, green and red. They are used in certain places to make different bits stand out. For example the yellow is used on the main cover line so that it is more eye catching than the rest of the cover lines.
  • 3. In the top left corner, there is an editors note. This makes the reader feel more personal towards the editor and makes them feel like they know them. There are sub-headings for each section of the contents. This is good so that it is easer for the reader to find what they’re looking for. The layout of the contents is quite simple and easily understood. This is good because the reader will find it easier to see and find things on this contents page. There speech insights from the magazine below ‘contents’. This gives the reader an idea or cliff hanger of a story within the issue and makes them want to read on into it. The images have page numbers on them, which often happens on most contents pages. The layout of the pictures is quite simple and straight forward. They are advertising for the magazine to get delivered to people to save money. This is a puff and intrigues readers as getting things cheaper generally appeals to most people. The colour scheme of the contents is similar to the front cover. It uses colours from the contents. Yellow, black, white and red. There is an issue number, and date on this contents. From this contents, features such as the layout of the images appeals to me and i could do something similar in my own magazine. I think it is good that there is one larger image and smaller ones around it. I also like the speech/quote from an story within the magazine because it makes the reader want to read on and that is what magazines basically try to do..
  • 4. The word ‘News’ and the article title is in the font of the kerrang magazine title. This is showing that features of the magazine carries on throughout the magazine. There is a site link to www.kerrang.com this gives the reader another place to find information about the kerrang magazine. The buzzword ‘world exclusive’ will make the reader want to read this particular story because it is ‘exclusive’ and the reader feels like they’re reading something not many people will know about unless they’ve read this certain magazine. There isn’t too much or too little text, this is good for young readers that will buy this magazine because if they don’t like reading (which most do not) then they do not have to read much to know about this story. There is a quote from the text “we’re being the best mcr we can be!’ this makes the reader want to know what this quote is linked to or about and intrigues them more into reading this. The black and white images make the title of the story stand out because it is red and white. From this double page spread, i would consider using features such as the amount of text There is the large image of the singer of the band on on the page because it is a good amount to have for the target audience of my own the left –a medium shot- and then close ups of the magazine. band at the bottom of the page. This shows them I would also consider using the contrast of colours this page has used, especially against playing live and shows them working together at a the black background if it works with my magazine. recording studio. And the way that they’re captured in the images shows that they are passionate about their music and are working hard on it. The words ‘the best mcr’ are larger than the rest, this is so that it stands out to the reader that this band is being ‘the best’ and it would be worthwhile reading about them if the reader doesn’t already know who they are.
