Business-Level And Corporate-Level Strategies
Introduction
When the name Dell is mentioned, what comes to the mind of many people is personal computers since the name is widely known for its link to computers. However, since its founding, the company has continued to grow and expand beyond the personal computers market to engage in other products and services such as IT (Swab & Gentry, 2018). The company now has stake in servers, networking, storage and data protection alongside its products such as monitors, PCs, and printers. The company went public in 1988 as Dell Computer Corp, and began a stiff competition with Compaq later in 2001. The company faced tough times from 2013 when smartphones and tablets became widely accepted, prompting the company to initiate privatization process (Swab & Gentry, 2018). This paper aims at discussing strategies used by the company to operate both at business and corporate level.
Business level strategies
Business-level strategy aims at meeting customers’ needs and satisfying them through offering high-quality goods and services to meet the needs and increasing operating profits (Hitt & Hoskisson, 2020). The focus is to position the company against its competitors in order to stay at the cutting edge and influence market and technology trends in the long-run.
The three core values of Dell Inc. are Listen, Learn and Deliver. These values have made the company successful in the IT sector through offering its products and services to meet customer needs. The success of the company has been pegged on unique customization, cost proposition and delivery. The company was forced to upgrade its strategies in order to meet the changing environment in the sector (Swab & Gentry, 2018). The business strategy has always centered on several core elements which include mass customization, direct sales, partnership with suppliers, build-to-order manufacturing, customer service, just-in-time inventories, market segmentation, and information sharing and extensive data with both customers and suppliers.
Dell now has strategies that focus on individual customer needs unlike before where the focus was on government and commercial customers (Hitt & Hoskisson, 2020). This is because the PC trend has been shifting towards smaller and more communications-oriented and integrated products. The market has experienced high demand for portable devices such as laptops, smartphones and notebooks. This has forced the company to adopt a strategy of manufacturing computer products which meet this need (Swab & Gentry, 2018).
The core competencies used by the company to meet specific product markets have been instrumental for the company. Growth in technology and advancement in product differentiation make customers to ...

Strategy Plan Project for Dell

Dell Strategic Plan
Dell is a private multinational company that deals with the manufacture of personal computer technologies. It was founded in 1984 and currently has its headquarters in Round Rock, Texas in the United States (Dell & Fredman, 1999). This strategic plan will analyze various internal and external environment factors affecting the company.
Mission statement
The Dell mission statement reads; “our mission is to be the most successful IT Company in the world by delivering the best customer experience in all the markets we serve. In doing so, Dell will meet customer expectations of highest quality, leading technology, competitive pricing, individual and company accountability, best-in-class service and support, flexible customization capability, and superior corporate citizenship”(Dell, 2015). The mission statement is focused on acquiring customer loyalty through high value creation.
Proposal for updated mission: the mission statement above needs to be updated so as to capture more values of the company. Currently, the mission is just focused on customer relations. Whereas Dell has a separate corporate social responsibility statement, this should be captured in the mission statement as it represents the core values and beliefs of the company. The statement should capture the company’s commitment towards environmental sustainability and its role in promoting the local communities.
Vision statement
Dell’s vision statement reads; “it’s the way we do business. It is the way we interact with the community. It is the way we interpret the world around us- our customers’ needs, our future technology, and global business climate. Whatever changes the future may bring. Dell vision will be out guide focus” (Dell, 2015). This vision is focused on customer satisfaction and introduces some aspect of the company’s responsibility towards the community.
Proposal for updated vision: a vision statement is a reflection of a company’s future ambitions or its desired future outlook (Roberts, 1996). The Dell vision statement captures this aspect effectively. There is however one thing that lacks in Dell’s vision: an ambition for market leadership. The vision should have a statement on how the company wishes to grow into a leader in the technology industry.

IT infrastructure will play a vital role in enabling organizations to become
connected economy leaders. With an IT infrastructure designed for cognitive workloads, you can
act at the speed of thought. It accelerates technology breakthroughs through open architectures
that foster collaborative innovation. Finally, it works with your cloud platforms to extend the value
of your systems and data. Put it all together and instead of observing change unfold, you can seize
the opportunities created by the connected economy.
Ctrl-alt-del: Rebooting the Business Model for the Digital AgeCapgemini
Our research with the MIT Sloan Management Review reveals that only 16% of organizations are leveraging digital technologies to develop new business models. Most organizations follow traditional approaches to innovation that focus on new products and services, rather than on business models. However, research suggests that the returns from traditional approaches have been diminishing with time. As Serguei Netessine, Professor at INSEAD Singapore says, “Pharmaceutical companies spend as much as 30% of their revenues on R&D, trying to develop new products or technologies. But the return from this enormous expenditure has been very elusive and it is a common problem across industries.” Business model reinvention can be as good a route as technology, product or service innovations. This research highlight five different approaches that organizations can adopt to reinvent their business model with digital technologies.

The name of our startup company is YouCanDoIt and is a mobility application based on do it yourself customers. The application is on smartphones and other mobility devices to allow users to search for how to repair products or project of home improvement. The search takes them to professional videos. The revenue generation comes from the advertisement from wholesale parts distributors and if needed local service companies that can complete the job when you are in over your head. The benefit is the ability to target advertisement to geographic users when needed. Additionally, the videos are professional quality and not uploaded by the public ensuring accuracy and quality.
B. Opportunity and Strategy
Most online activities are with computers, tablets and the cell phones. In this regard, our team proposes "YouCanDoIt." This app enables everybody to complete tasks using a mobile phone or the computer. This application assists individuals with the marketing and advertisement of the products they are pitching and allows online transactions. The project's primary focus is helping people complete tasks other people traditionally do for them.
The assumption is this application is useful and convenient and compatible with many computerized devices. In essence, since everyone likes to save time and money, this project offers them an economical solution. There are many opportunities, making this project a viable and profitable (Vanston & Technology Futures, Inc, 2010).
The strategy to win the market is emphasizing the innovation, ease of use and relevance to the target market. Methods include listening to customers and hearing what they want or how the existing products fall short. Moreover, asking them what they want assists with the modification and evolution of the products. Introduction
Dell is one of the popular corporations in the industry of electronics. It provides a variety of consumer electronics such as laptops, cell phones, computers as well as music devices. This paper is going to address Dell`s strengths and weaknesses, determine Dell`s core competencies, core capabilities, and resources, discuss the segments of general environment that influence the corporation, discuss the most significant forces of competition and identify greatest external threats and opportunities of Dell.
General Environment
The political segment influences Dell in that it governs the relations of the company with its consumers, employees, investors, competitors, and partners. This segment specifically deals with legal laws and issues that may be faced by a company in the process of doing business. Taxation laws, anti-laws, labor training laws, educational philosophies, deregulation philosophies, and policies are the main elements of the political segment. Anti-trust laws are laws set forth to protect consumers and certain individuals from businesses who carry out predatory business practices. Preservation of free and unfettered competition as indicated by the Federal Trade Commission is a rule of trade (Federal Trade Commission, 2016). It is vital for the electronic industry, like Dell to avoid violating antitrust laws.
The technological segment has the highest influence on Dell. Product innovation is the most important element of the technological segment. This is because for a company to compete with its rivals, it is important for it to create innovated products. When a company is competing in an industry related to technology, it must have innovated products since consumers are always willing and able to spend their money on what the best gives them. When consumers are not willing to spend on products the company gets a loss of revenue as well as a greater loss percentage of market shares.
Two Forces of Competition
· The threat of substitute products
Dell has offered similar products and services with the Microsoft Corporation. Both of these companies offer products such as web browsers, handheld computers, and operating systems. For instance, consumers are offered with tablets by the Microsoft Corporation while on the other hand, Dell offers iPads. These two devices perform the same function but offer clients with other services which are not included in the rivalry`s product. Price is the common dimension in which the Microsoft Corporation rivalry is based. Most of Dell`s products are very expensive. As a result, most consumers have moved to Microsoft Corporation`s products. For example, one can buy a Microsoft operating system computer for around $ 800 to $ 900. Whereas, it has been found that the average price for Dell`s operating system and computer ranges between $1,300 to $2,100.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Business Administration: Dell Company
Introduction
Dell Company is an American-based multinational computer
technology Company specializing in the manufacture of high
tech gadgets, laptop, and PCs. The Company was established by
Michael Dell in 1984 and has its headquarters in the Round
Rock region of Texas (Form 10-K, 2016). Dell is one of the
corporations that continue to be affected by the aspect of
globalization and changes in technology. Nonetheless, Dell has
continuously demonstrated its resilience in embracing modern
computing technology in its offering. Such adaptations have
been vital for the Company in responding to the changing needs
of its different stakeholders and to survive the ever-changing
6. tech market. Therefore, this assignment will apply the concept
of industrial organization model and resource-based view model
in evaluating Dell earnings and how it can achieve the above
average return. Also, the thesis will perform an analysis of
globalization and technology with respect to Dell. The
subsequent section of the paper will discuss stakeholders’
contributions to the organization, and how the mission and
vision statement for Dell pronounces its success.
Globalization and Technology
Kay (2014) defines globalization as the interaction pattern and
the integration of people or even business across the globe
owing to improvement in trade activities and investment
opportunities mainly influence by the prevalent use of
technology. The aspect of globalization and continuous reliance
on technology in commerce has been a momentous boost for
Dell Company in growing its revenue and profits. Currently, the
firm is experiencing a boom in sales across Europe, Asia, and
Africa (Form 10-K, 2016). Furthermore, globalization and
revolutions in technology have been pivotal in growing the
concept of ‘trading beyond borders,’ by eliminating trade
barriers and currency restrictions experienced in the past. The
introduction of the internet was the hallmark of the idea of
globalization. It was the invention of the internet that demanded
developments and upgrades in technology that transformed the
mode of global communication and business interactions (Kay,
2014). Hence, businesses such as Dell were able to reach out to
large masses of potential customers, a large pool of talented
employees, and suppliers of its brand offerings around the
globe.
Industrial Organization Model and the Resource-Based View
Model
According to Peteraf (2015), the industrial organization model
7. primarily analyzes the strategies of an enterprise, its policies,
and competitiveness in the industry. The model aims at
understanding the technique of operation for the business, its
value to the economic welfare of a country, as well as its
contribution to the industrial policies. Therefore, I/O is an
economic model important for strategic assessment for an
enterprise. Relatively, Peteraf (2015) defines the resource-based
view (RBV) model as focusing on organization internal
resources to highlight their strength and weaknesses. and build
on a firm competitiveness. The two models are ideal for firms to
grow their competitive advantages and device better strategies
for realizing profitability in the market. Therefore, for Dell to
grow its profits beyond the average returns it should focus on
its strength and weaknesses. For instance, it should use its
strong financial base and brand reputation to expand in the
market, e.g., through acquisition and mergers and corporate
buyouts. The Company currently pursue a merger with VMware
and has also acquired over ten other companies including EMC
Corporation in 2016, Perot Systems in 2009, Alienware in 2006,
and Security Software in 2012, and Force 10 in 2011. Therefore,
the resource-based view is ideal for Dell to grow its revenue
beyond and above average return as it reflects on the internal
strength and weaknesses of the firm. Also, the RBV model is
somewhat superior and positively impacts Dell's production
process (Peteraf, 2015; Form 10-K, 2016).
Mission and Vision Statement
Dell in its mission and vision structure inscribe that it is
dedicated to making the optimum/ best use of its macro and
micro environmental resources to manufacture grade A products
and services capable of achieving the definitive consumer
experience (Form 10-K, 2016). Also, the goal of Dell is to
deliver sustainable technological and computing solutions to all
its customers with an aim of achieving mutual growth, as well
as delivering value to its markets. Likewise, the enterprise aims
8. at manufacturing efficient computers capable of supporting the
needs of the visually impaired in the society, as well as the
needs of the environment, people’s social needs, economic
needs, and corporates needs. Such efforts Dell seek to achieve
through the inclusion of ethical conduct in its code of practice.
Dell mission, vision, and goals have continued to earn it
significant popularity and brand reputation in the society. The
firm has overtime demonstrated its resilience in standing by its
brand value earning it admiration alongside other brands in the
global market. The firm continues to innovate in a manner that
corresponds to its diverse user needs. Dell treats all its
customers as equal and seeks to uplift the spirit of the society,
as well as restore hope to the marginalized segments of the
global markets. As such, Dell continues to focus on green
supply chain strategies of retailing of its computers to meet its
specific client needs. The strategy is effective for the firm to
determine its consumer needs, as well as reducing overheads
and wastages. Such corporate values have by far enhanced
Dell’s reputation in the market with an estimated brand value of
42 billion dollars to confirm its dominance in the global tech
market (Form 10-K, 2016).
Stakeholders Contribution
The three types of shareholders for Dell Company consist of the
capital market shareholders, the organizational shareholders,
and the product market shareholders (Form 10-K, 2016). These
groups of shareholders impact the firm’s operation in several
ways. For example, the capital market shareholders comprising
of the Company suppliers and creditors are usually interested in
the ability of the firm to make payment when they fall due.
Therefore, Dell management can deploy different mix strategies
to ensure that the business accumulates enough revenue to pay
off the creditors and suppliers while meeting the firm’s cash
flow demands. Such abilities to satisfy creditors’ obligations
9. are convincing enough for stakeholders to continue investing in
the firm (Dell Inc., 2018). Likewise, the product market
shareholders consisting of the surrounding communities and
customers are usually concerned with the CSR of an
organization. The ability of a firm to engage in sustainable CSR
strategies is important in growing its brand loyalty. Therefore,
Dell should invest in sustainable communication strategy to the
market, along with improving the quality of its brand offerings
to grow in the market. Finally, the Organizational stakeholders
comprising of the firm's employees and the executive board are
interested in the firm’s globalization success. Therefore, they
should strive to deliver quality consistently to the market to
expand the scope of the firm and to compete in the mainstream
tech markets (Dell Inc., 2018; Form 10-K, 2016).
Conclusion
The concept of strategic management and strategic
competitiveness has a significant impact on enterprises. In the
case of Dell Company, the deployment of strategic management
practice is increasingly growing it into a market challenger to
other dominant participants such as HP, Mac, Samsung, and
Lenovo. The enterprise mission, vision, and goal orientations,
as well as the stakeholder’s involvement, have been a
significant source of Dell success story (Form 10-K, 2016). The
enterprise has been able to build on its internal strength and
weaknesses through establishing practical solutions to realize
increases market share and growth in the tech production
market. By putting into practice what the management teaches,
Dell Company has been able to integrate its practices and
achieve a significant milestone in being regarded as the new
face of quality computer manufacturers around the globe (Kay,
2014).

Health Care Organization
Introduction
A hospital is a healthcare organization amongst several others,
for example, ambulatory surgical center, doctor’s office, urgent
clinic, nursing home, and many more. The market sector of the
hospital is a mass market. Mass market or undifferentiated
market is a strategy that is used to target all types of persons in
the market without isolation. Mass-market casts a wide net into
the market so as to capture as many people as possible to use
the services and facilities of the hospital without regard to age,
gender, social class et cetera (Srinivasan, 2008). This has a
disadvantage of having a limited appeal because not everyone
has the same preference of treatment.
Despite the benefits of the mass market, more hospitals are
leaning towards niche services. They do this to get an edge over
other healthcare facilities, in a very competitive market
(Srinivasan, 2008). Niche services also provide focused
concentration on a service thus ensuring better quality delivery.
Mass market will be the market sector for the hospital.
Health Care Approaches
The population health approach is becoming more recognized in
health care as compared to curative approach. Population health
approach assists leaders in planning and decision making where
its main focus is the health and wellness of the population and
not the illness. Assessing the general population to understand
the needs of the community. Such a research will address the
health issues that generally arise, which will lead to general
wellness of the community (El-Sayed & Galea, 2017). In
addition to the reduction of the general need for healthcare in
the community, the approach also assists in a better
organization. Generally, population approach will ensure a
12. better general health and thus reduce the healthcare demand in
an area which ultimately contributed to the sustainability of the
healthcare system.
On the other hand, a curative approach is a tool that has been in
use. Curative comes from curing, where a healthcare
concentrates on totally eliminating illnesses. Curative aims at
aggressively eliminating the medical issue, while population
approach simply minimizes the impact (El-Sayed & Galea,
2017). As such, curative is only suitable for a small group of
people and often becomes expensive though it is easier to
manage. Where else population approach is convenient to a
large number of people. It is easier to deliver the same service
for a wide variety of people than to tailor make for the same
large number. Also managing the population approach becomes
much better than curative when it comes to dealing with a large
population.
Healthcare Leadership Assessment
Leadership is pivotal to any organization. With the development
of health care, leadership is an important tool to ensure
continuous growth. In most cases, whenever there is a problem
with an organization, the issue can roughly be traced back to the
leaders. This makes the leadership role become pivotal to the
success of the hospital. A good leader with right leadership
techniques will ensure growth and development. There have
been several issues that healthcare organizations face, for
example, organizational climate, teamwork, training,
development, and much more. Organization climate is important
to the success of any healthcare facility. The ambient climate
condition can only be set by the leaders, a role that is quite
challenging. When all patients are satisfied with the service
delivered and professionals are delighted, shows good
leadership.
Teamwork is one of the major factors where a number of issues
emanate from. A situation where all the members concerned in a
healthcare such as a hospital are working together in unison
shows good leadership skills. There has been an evolution of
13. healthcare and the time where a doctor could provide quality
care by themselves is gone. In light of such, the demand for
quality by many necessitate parallel healthcare professional
development. The main focus is placed on patient-centered
teamwork approach. This is only possible when the patient is
placed at the center and the duties are shared (Ledlow &
Coppola, 2011). Through good coordination by the leaders, the
professionals can exhibit high-quality care as well as serving
many patients simultaneously.
It is the work of leaders in a hospital to ensure renewed focus
on quality. Periodical training and coaching of the staff is
important in guaranteeing continued satisfaction of patients.
This also gives room for adaptation to the new and upcoming
trends in health care. Such come with a connection of ensuring
that workers remain focused on their values, passion, and
purpose. It is the task of the leaders to assess the psych levels
of their workers and to find quick solutions to elevate them.
When workers are operating optimally, the leader is assured that
patients are well taken care of (Ledlow & Coppola, 2011). A
challenge that is overcoming most healthcare facilities is the
integration of technology into the system. The success of such a
task solely lies on the coordination of the leader of the facility.
Legal and Ethical Issues
Ethics can be defined as the study between right and wrong.
Ethics is a major factor when it comes to health care, for there
are many situations where a person may be ignorant, thus the
need for ethical guidelines. An example of ethical issues is
justice. The healthcare providers should always be just to all
patients and not seem to favor one type over the other. All
patient’s best interest must be held by the health provider as
they are trained to be beneficence (Pozgar, 2016). There should
always be respect for autonomy by accepting other people’s
decisions despite your own belief. A healthcare provider should
never be malfeasance and cause harm when taking any action.
Most of all, all healthcare providers are required to conduct
themselves with dignity.
14. Legal aspect in healthcare is where a person may be prosecuted
for not having followed the laid down rules. There are several
legal issued that emanate from healthcare and some border with
ethical matters. Confidentiality of a patient’s medical records is
paramount. One may face legal actions when the disseminate
information regarding a patient without their consent. Having
relationships with patients is also an illegal matter. Health
practitioners can be prosecuted for such. Consent is a very
important issue. When professionals act without the legal
consent of a patient or next of kin, charges may be levied
against them. Malpractice is one of the most prevalent among
legal issues. People who abuse their medical knowledge are
liable to face the consequences due to their malpractice (Pozgar,
2016).
Leadership Suggestions
There are many ways that a leader can ensure positive growth
while managing the risks in a healthcare facility like a hospital.
Staffing is most paramount when it comes to a hospital. In a
service rendering facility, the type of staff working is
paramount in reducing problems and making positive outcomes.
Well trained staff who are disciplined will have a positive
impact to the facility. Managing the finances of the institution
is also important in ensuring positive growth. When finances
are miss managed, most of the functions will start to crumble
beginning with the most important. Such a scenario can be
disastrous and the opposite will happen when there is good
financial management (Ledlow & Coppola, 2011).
Following the set regulations by the hospital and its employees
is important. It is the work of the leadership team to make sure
that all the staff is aware of the regulations and they follow
them to the latter. This will ensure that there are minimal
problems thus the facility' resources can be dedicated to growth.
Managing the public image is another important factor in
ensuring the success of the hospital. The hospital is profit based
meaning it thrives better with more patients (Ledlow &
Coppola, 2011). If the public image is not regarded, there might
15. be a loss of patients which will result in reduced income for the
facility.
Conclusion
Hospitals, like all other healthcare facilities, require a lot of
leadership commitment. Most of the success and failures of such
facilities can be directly attributed to the leadership. All aspects
of a hospital have to be managed and proper guidance is made
so as to ensure positive growth of the facility. It is only by good
leadership that patients can enjoy better services from hospitals.
Leaders will access the internal environment of such a facility
in areas such as teamwork. The leaders will set the ambient
climate for the organization to thrive while being cautious of
the ethical and legal issues that arise in the facility. The leaders
are also tasked with the role of looking for advice on how they
can improve their facility or otherwise reduce the negative
outcomes in the facility.
