According to Merriam Webster:
“a web site that contains an online personal
journal with reflections, comments, and often
hyperlinks provided by the writer; also : the
contents of such a site”
The term was first used in 1999.

• The first blog was Links.net in 1994. it was created by college
student. At the time they were referred to as “Personal
Homepages”.
• the term “weblog” was coined in 1997. The word’s creation
has been attributed to Jorn Barger, of the influential early blog
Robot Wisdom.
• “Weblog” was shortened to “blog” in 1999 by programmer
Peter Merholz. It’s not until five years later that Merriam-
Webster declares the word their word of the year.

There are millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there are no real rules.In simple terms, a blog is a web site, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what's new. Then they comment on it or link to it or email you. Or not.As Merriam-Webster has defined it….
The original blogs were updated manually, often linked from a central home page or archive. This wasn’t very efficient, but unless you were a programmer who could create your own custom blogging platform, there weren’t any other options to begin with.During these early years, a few different “blogging” platforms cropped up. LiveJournal is probably the most recognizable of the early sites.And then, in 1999, the platform that would later become Blogger was started by Evan Williams and Meg Hourihan at Pyra Labs. Some people may think that blogs are only about technology, politics or personal diaries. This however, is not true. If you can think of it there is probably a blog about it. Art, sports, history, crafts, food (very popular), fashion, photography, music, culture, travel and the previously mentioned technology, politics and personal dairies.
Creating a Blogger account couldn’t be simpler!First log on to Google and type “Blogger” into the search engine or type “www.blogger.com” in the URL.You will find a page like this one (see pic) click on “Sign Up”
The next step is to complete the required information. Such as e-mail, password, and gender.After filling in all the information, click “continue” and you will come to this page (see pic)This is your new blog Dashboard (where you, organise and edit your blog!) Now, all you have to do is log in to your e-mail and verify you address and you’re done! You now have a Blog!To add posts just click on “New Post” and start typing!
The difference between an average blog and a great blog may simply come down to aesthetics, the better your blog looks the more people will read it. One of the best ways to take your blog to the next level is to add widgets.Now before we understand how to add them let’s figure out what they are.“is a generic term for the part of a GUI that allows the user to interface with the application and operating system. Widgets display information and invite the user to act in a number of ways. Typical widgets include buttons, dialog boxes, pop-up windows, pull-down menus, icons, scroll bars, resizable window edges, progress indicators, selection boxes, windows, tear-off menus, menu bars, toggle switches and forms.”Widgets can be anything from adding a link to twitter to virtual goldfish to RSS feeds (which can update your followers to your activity as soon as you post it)Adding them is very simple:If you are adding a widget from bloggers own list you just click the link and add it to the section of your blog.The slightly trickier approach to add a widget from a foreign website is to copy the HTML codes and paste it into your website’s code.
