The opening scene of Jurassic Park establishes tension through its title colors of red and orange, dark lighting, and mysterious sounds coming from behind the trees. As the scene progresses, the lighting brightens to focus attention on a moving box in the trees, making the audience wonder what is inside. Special effects like aggressive dinosaur sounds and workers carrying tasers further suggest danger. In Jaws, the opening scene uses relaxing orange campfire lighting but this also connotes danger. When a girl enters the water, tense music plays to increase the heart rate of viewers. Both films employ a variety of techniques in the opening scenes to engage audiences and set the tone for threats present in the story without revealing full details.

In the opening scene the title of the film
is shown right at the start, and the
colours that the title is written in are red
and orange, straight away this shows
that the film is about danger, blood, and
speed. Due to the fact that red signifies
blood and danger, and orange and red
combined signifies speed .Therefore this
is immediately building tension.
Additionally in the opening scene the lightning is very dark,
and mysterious to create a tense atmosphere for what is
rustling behind the trees.
However, on the other hand the lightening dramatically
brightens up and focuses on the box that is moving out of the
trees, so that the audiences attention is fully concentrated on
the box, as they wonder what is hidden inside.

3. Furthermore referring to the Mis En scence, which incorporates a wide range of
different effects to make the opening scene seem realistic and to get the
message across to the audience as to what the film is going to be about. An
example of this is where the dinosaur cage is being lowered and you can hear a
aggressive growl coming from the cage, connoting that there is angry and
temperamental creature inside of the cage, however it is still not revealing what
that creature is. Another example is that the workers are all holding tasers when
the cage is being lowered, which suggests that whatever is inside of the cage is
a possible threat to workers and is capable of bad things.
The opening scene also contains a variety of special effects . One of the
special effects is the background music, which builds up an apprehensive
atmosphere. This is because the tempo of the music is very upbeat.

In this scene a point of view shot is
used, this is used to establish what the
dinosaur is seeing and that its focus is
purely on these workers and because
of the heavy breathing noise in the
background of this scene it shows the
anger it has for there workers.
An extreme close up of the
creatures eye is shown in this shot.
This builds tension because it is still
not revealing what the creature
inside of the cage is however a
small part of that creature is shown
which leaves the audience guessing
as to what is inside of the cage.

At the start of the scene the
lighting is very relaxing, as they
are all gathered around a camp
fire. The colour that is mainly used
is orange, due to that being the
colour of the fire, and the first
scene of the fire seems to be the
main image. However although it
seems calming, the colour orange
connotes danger, therefore this
could be foreshadowing that
something bad is about to happen.
The opening scene also consists of a wide range of difference special effects in
order to create tension and suspense. For example when the girl is in the water
an fast upbeat ambient sound is played, which increases the audiences heart
beat and makes them on edge.

Furthermore the Mis En
scene includes a variety of
different effects in order to get
the message across to the
viewers and give them a
glimpse as to what the
storyline is going to be about.
For example in the image
shown below the girl is being
dragged underwater, which is
showing the audience that
there is something in the
water and whatever it is, it is
very dangerous and its thrive
is to kill. However it does not
reveal what exactly is under
the water dragging her down.
Following on from this point,
this then will leave the
audience on edge and
question what the creature is.

This shot is a close up of
the girl being dragged
under the water. The use of
the close up adds effect as
you are able to see her
emotions, showing the
worry and confusion which
also adds tension for the
viewers.
The use of a low angle shot
adds tension for the viewers
as it shows that there is
something in the water below
the girl watching her,
therefore foreshadowing
something bad is about to
happen to the girl.
