The Tribe of Dan sent out spies to find new lands to settle, as the land God had given them was occupied by strong enemies. The spies found the city of Laish, whose people lived in security. Six hundred men from Dan went to take the city. They passed through the house of Micah, a man who had set up idols and hired a priest. The men of Dan took Micah's idols and hired his priest. They then continued on and conquered Laish, renaming it Dan after their ancestor. Idolatry remained a problem in the northern tribes like Dan.
