The document analyzes relationships between performance on the Grade 7 & 9 Diagnostic exams administered by e-Learning Jamaica and CSEC exam performance in Jamaican secondary schools from 2008-2011. It finds that intake scores on the GSAT exam are strongly predictive of future performance through Grade 7, Grade 9, and on CSEC exams. Weaknesses in algebra and geometry are already apparent in Grade 7 and 9 results. The communication task portion of the GSAT exam appears to discriminate between students and is associated with varying levels of later academic success. Data analysis can inform education policy and placement strategies.
