NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER IN CONDENSING HEAT EXCHANGERS...ssuser7dcef0
Power plants release a large amount of water vapor into the
atmosphere through the stack. The flue gas can be a potential
source for obtaining much needed cooling water for a power
plant. If a power plant could recover and reuse a portion of this
moisture, it could reduce its total cooling water intake
requirement. One of the most practical way to recover water
from flue gas is to use a condensing heat exchanger. The power
plant could also recover latent heat due to condensation as well
as sensible heat due to lowering the flue gas exit temperature.
Additionally, harmful acids released from the stack can be
reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation. reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation.
Condensation of vapors in flue gas is a complicated
phenomenon since heat and mass transfer of water vapor and
various acids simultaneously occur in the presence of noncondensable
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. Design of a
condenser depends on the knowledge and understanding of the
heat and mass transfer processes. A computer program for
numerical simulations of water (H2O) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was
developed using MATLAB. Governing equations based on
mass and energy balances for the system were derived to
predict variables such as flue gas exit temperature, cooling
water outlet temperature, mole fraction and condensation rates
of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The equations were solved
using an iterative solution technique with calculations of heat
and mass transfer coefficients and physical properties.

Hybrid optimization of pumped hydro system and solar- Engr. Abdul-Azeez.pdffxintegritypublishin
Advancements in technology unveil a myriad of electrical and electronic breakthroughs geared towards efficiently harnessing limited resources to meet human energy demands. The optimization of hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems plays a pivotal role in utilizing natural resources effectively. This initiative not only benefits humanity but also fosters environmental sustainability. The study investigated the design optimization of these hybrid systems, focusing on understanding solar radiation patterns, identifying geographical influences on solar radiation, formulating a mathematical model for system optimization, and determining the optimal configuration of PV panels and pumped hydro storage. Through a comparative analysis approach and eight weeks of data collection, the study addressed key research questions related to solar radiation patterns and optimal system design. The findings highlighted regions with heightened solar radiation levels, showcasing substantial potential for power generation and emphasizing the system's efficiency. Optimizing system design significantly boosted power generation, promoted renewable energy utilization, and enhanced energy storage capacity. The study underscored the benefits of optimizing hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems for sustainable energy usage. Optimizing the design of solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems as examined across diverse climatic conditions in a developing country, not only enhances power generation but also improves the integration of renewable energy sources and boosts energy storage capacities, particularly beneficial for less economically prosperous regions. Additionally, the study provides valuable insights for advancing energy research in economically viable areas. Recommendations included conducting site-specific assessments, utilizing advanced modeling tools, implementing regular maintenance protocols, and enhancing communication among system components.

Galvalume® steel can be used for roofs of all types and pitches, and can be employed for walls. It is recommend-
ed for any new building where a cost-effective maintenance for roofing system is required.
Excellent resistance to corrosion and good heat reflectivity make Galvalume® steel the preferred choice for farm
building, roofing, and siding applications. The appearance can be further enhanced with the use of pre-painted
Galvalume® sheet. In addition to steel buildings, Galvalume® sheet applications include Quonsets/Curvettes,
grain bins and silos, water tanks, and equipment storage facilities.
Galvalume® steel sheet is replacing galvanised in many residential and non-residential applications thanks to its
superior corrosion resistance and heat reflectivity. Because it does not have to be oiled and is easy to handle,
acrylic coated Galvalume® sheet is the most suitable material for unpainted roofing and siding.
Heating and Ventilation
Galvalume® sheet is a unique product which is suitable for heating & ventilation applications. It has better resis-
tance towards oxidation and can withstand temperature up to 315°C without discolorisation. lt is often used in:

proves more economical than aluminum coated steel. Today Galvalume® steel sheets are being used successful-
ly for gas heater parts, heat exchangers, prefabricated fireplaces, water heater furnaces and heat shields, vend-
ing machine panels and parts, water cooler cabinets, commercial deep fryers, freezers and electric range inner
box panels. Among other benefits, Galvalume® sheet also extends the life of refrigerator pans and interior parts
for window air-conditioners.
Automotive
Galvalume® steel sheets are increasingly being used as a replacement for the more expensive aluminium on
trailers, vans and mobile houses. They are also more resistant to impact damage than aluminium. Major automo-
tive applications for galvalume® sheet include unexposed body and engine parts. Some automotive applications
rely more on the product's heat reflectivity like heat shields, brake pads, covers, while other auto parts like floor
pans, seat backs, truck bodies, air cleaner covers benefit from its superior corrosion resistance, good paintability

Advantage JSW
Superior corrosion resistance
Superior corrosion resistance means longer service life for buildings, appliances, or parts made from
Galvalume® sheet. Atmospheric test results confirm that, depending on the environment, Galvalume®
sheet (150 g/m2 or 20/um thick coating) lasts between two to four times longer than equivalent thick-
ness zinc coating (traditional galvanized sheet) and also outlasts Aluminum Coated Type 1 and Type 2
products.
Initial encouraging laboratory test results were confirmed by long term atmospheric exposure tests in
various environments ranging from severe marine to severe industrial. Additional exposure data from
licensees around the world confirms the product's superior corrosion resistance.
Heat reflectivity (cool roof)
The shiny Galvalume® surface maintains its brightness for extended periods even after exposure to
moderately high temperatures (up to 350° C). Being reflective, this bright surface ensures energy
efficiency in buildings and appliances and, as an efficient heat shield for automotive exhaust applica-
tions. To the consumer, this means lower energy costs. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
acknowledging Galvalume® sheet's high reflectivity and retained brightness has classified it as "Energy
Star® roof" material. This distinction has exclusively been accorded to Galvalume® sheet in comparison
to other steel products.
Environment-friendliness
Galvalume® sheet's higher heat reflectivity also makes it environmental friendly since it helps lower
atmospheric temperature. As per studies conducted by the EPA, higher atmospheric temperature
contributes to greater smog formation - and reducing atmospheric temperatures by a few degrees can
help reduce smog.
Formability
Galvalume® sheet can be readily roll formed on conventional roll forming equipment. It is made in a
variety of strength levels, depending on the intended application, including Forming Quality (FQ) and Full
Hard (FH). When additional formability is required for more difficult jobs, FQ or even Deep Drawing Quality
(DDQ) can also be used.
Paintability
Galvalume® sheet is an excellent substrate for paint-ability. It can be pre-painted on continuous coil
painting lines, as individual formed parts in the factory or field painted at the site. The surface is mostly
aluminium and thus readily paintable, offering consistently better paint adhesion.
Corrosion resistance of G-90 galvanized, Galvalume® Coated in Scandinavian environment.
Better return on your investment
Gives two to four times better life than galvanised steel under the same exposure
Provides galvanic protection of bare edges comparable to that of zinc coated steel
Less affected by standing water and greater resistance to humidity than either galvanized or aluminum
coated steel
Galvalume® steel roofs last longer, require less maintenance and offer exceptional value making it the
ideal alternative to traditional non-metallic roof systems. Properly designed, installed and maintained
Galvalume® roofs can provide more than 30 years of trouble-free service
The major applications of Galvalume® coated sheets around the world include
replacement of conventional galvanised and aluminium coated sheets
