Madney et al (2020) investigated the effects of a high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), high-flow valved facemask (HFM), and high-flow mouthpiece (HMP) in delivering salbutamol to COPD patients. They found that while HFNC was the least efficient interface for drug delivery, it had the highest tolerability among patients. Overall, the interfaces showed similar lung function improvements despite differences in drug deposition, so patient comfort should be a deciding factor in interface selection.
