Joseph Turner was an English artist born in 1775 who became famous for his landscape paintings and depictions of natural disasters. He began painting at a young age and was accepted into the Royal Academy of Art school after only one year of study. Throughout his life he exhibited his works at the Royal Academy nearly every year. As he aged, Turner became more eccentric and depressed, especially after the death of his father in 1829 with whom he was very close. His paintings evolved from bright landscapes to darker tones that reflected his mood. Some of his most famous works include Snow Storm: Hannibal and his Army Crossing the Alps from 1812 and The Fighting Temeraire tugged to her last Berth to be broken up
