The respiratory system is made up of organs that help the body breathe by delivering oxygen and removing carbon dioxide. It includes the nasal passages, mouth, pharynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles and lungs. The lungs receive oxygen and remove carbon dioxide as it travels through the bloodstream to cells throughout the body. Diseases like asthma and restrictive lung disease can affect the respiratory system. We need the respiratory system to breathe and provide oxygen to cells in order for the body to function.
