Joinville, Brazil is known as the city of princes, flowers, and dance. It was originally given as a dowry to the daughter of the Brazilian emperor in the 19th century when she married the French prince of Joinville. Joinville was founded in 1851 by German, Swiss, and Norwegian immigrants and houses the Immigration Museum built to host the prince and princess, though they never visited. Joinville has landmarks like Palm Street, City Hall, its coat of arms, flag, and celebrates an annual Flower Festival focused on its native orchid. It is known for its soccer team, German hotels, rail transport of grains, zoo, and the Bolshoi Ballet School and annual Dance Festival held each July.
