The fallas celebration takes place in Valencia, Spain from March 15-19 each year. The celebration originated as carpenters would burn wooden planks called parots in early spring to celebrate the end of winter, and they began decorating them. Nowadays, enormous figures made of materials like cardboard and plaster called ninots are constructed and then burned on the night of March 19th, called La Cremá. The fallas festival is known for its noisy celebrations with fireworks and explosions throughout the city attracting tourists each year.
