•Make a list of every person
and/or company that you have
done business with, and their
phone number. Not their email!
Their Phone Number!
•Google the company number if
you don’t have it. Use the
Yellow pages to get their home
number.
BE DILIGENT!
▪ Make a personal phone call to each and every person on your list
▪ If the person does not answer, leave a message, asking them to
  call you back. ( do not leave any other details)
▪ Once they call you back ask them for a job and/or if they know of
  any job opportunities. You have to ASK!
▪ DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT began to tell the person how long
  you’ve been looking for a job and giving them a sob story. An
  employer wants people with a good attitude, not more sad
  stories! And, they certainly do not want to refer someone that’s
  stuck in the past.
▪ Every time you speak with a family member, church member,
  bank teller, convenience store operator, waitress ask them for a    MAKE THE CALLS!
  job, or if they know of anyone hiring. Every time? YES! You are
  forming a job hunting team and they are your posse. People
  really do want to help you.
GET OUT OF
THE HOUSE!
•You have spent enough
time emailing applications
and sitting in your pajama’s.
▪ BE INDUSTRIOUS!
▪ Find every Staffing Agency in your area.
▪ Go to their website, set up and complete their customer profile. (This can
  be done at home, but don’t make it an excuse to stay home.)
▪ Now go visit every Staffing Agency you identified and have an updated
  resume with you. (You should have at least 20 copies when you leave the
  house.)
▪ Go visit those same Staffing Agencies EVERY WEEK! Do not call them to
  check in. Go visit them in person. Let them put a name to face. Make it
  personal!
HARD FACT #1:     A lot Employers use Staffing Agency’s when hiring
HARD FACT #2:     Staffing Agency’s talk to over 600 people a week.
                  Who do you think they are going to remember? Your
                  voice out of 200? Or your voice because you came
                  into their office every week and had an actual               GET OUT
                  conversation with them.
                                                                               OF THE HOUSE!

VOLUNTEER!
VISIT!
•Be useful
•Meet more people
•Expand your skills & your network
BE ACTIVE!
▪ Visit your local Employment Office
▪ Google your local Workforce Development Board and call them
  too. (Never heard of a Workforce Development Board or
  Workforce Investment Board? Don’t worry most other people
  haven‘t either. Trust me! Call them! They have on-the-job-
  training funding that may benefit you and an employer.)
▪ Volunteer while you are looking for a job. This will look good on a
  resume and provide even more networking opportunities to let
  folks know you need a real job.


    6 Degrees of Separation: The idea that everyone is six or fewer steps
     away, by way of introduction, from any other person in the world, so    VISIT!
     that a chain of "a friend of a friend" statements can be made to
     connect any two people in a maximum of six steps.                       VOLUNTEER!

Job Search-Provoking Greatness

  • 1. YOU WILL NOT FIND “IT” SITTING AT HOME (IT = YOUR NEXT JOB)
  • 2. THERE IS WORK TO BE DONE! •Make a list of every person and/or company that you have done business with, and their phone number. Not their email! Their Phone Number! •Google the company number if you don’t have it. Use the Yellow pages to get their home number.
  • 3. BE DILIGENT! ▪ Make a personal phone call to each and every person on your list ▪ If the person does not answer, leave a message, asking them to call you back. ( do not leave any other details) ▪ Once they call you back ask them for a job and/or if they know of any job opportunities. You have to ASK! ▪ DO NOT! I REPEAT DO NOT began to tell the person how long you’ve been looking for a job and giving them a sob story. An employer wants people with a good attitude, not more sad stories! And, they certainly do not want to refer someone that’s stuck in the past. ▪ Every time you speak with a family member, church member, bank teller, convenience store operator, waitress ask them for a MAKE THE CALLS! job, or if they know of anyone hiring. Every time? YES! You are forming a job hunting team and they are your posse. People really do want to help you.
  • 4. GET OUT OF THE HOUSE! •You have spent enough time emailing applications and sitting in your pajama’s.
  • 5. ▪ BE INDUSTRIOUS! ▪ Find every Staffing Agency in your area. ▪ Go to their website, set up and complete their customer profile. (This can be done at home, but don’t make it an excuse to stay home.) ▪ Now go visit every Staffing Agency you identified and have an updated resume with you. (You should have at least 20 copies when you leave the house.) ▪ Go visit those same Staffing Agencies EVERY WEEK! Do not call them to check in. Go visit them in person. Let them put a name to face. Make it personal! HARD FACT #1: A lot Employers use Staffing Agency’s when hiring HARD FACT #2: Staffing Agency’s talk to over 600 people a week. Who do you think they are going to remember? Your voice out of 200? Or your voice because you came into their office every week and had an actual GET OUT conversation with them. OF THE HOUSE! “Squeaky wheel gets the oil.”
  • 6. VOLUNTEER! VISIT! •Be useful •Meet more people •Expand your skills & your network
  • 7. BE ACTIVE! ▪ Visit your local Employment Office ▪ Google your local Workforce Development Board and call them too. (Never heard of a Workforce Development Board or Workforce Investment Board? Don’t worry most other people haven‘t either. Trust me! Call them! They have on-the-job- training funding that may benefit you and an employer.) ▪ Volunteer while you are looking for a job. This will look good on a resume and provide even more networking opportunities to let folks know you need a real job.  6 Degrees of Separation: The idea that everyone is six or fewer steps away, by way of introduction, from any other person in the world, so VISIT! that a chain of "a friend of a friend" statements can be made to connect any two people in a maximum of six steps. VOLUNTEER!
