ETUG Spring 2013 Workshop - My flipped classroom by Judy Larsen BCcampus
My Flipped Classroom: A Case Study
Our world is shifting, and knowledge no longer flows solely from teachers and textbooks, but rather from a variety of multimedia. The affordance provided by technology to seamlessly deliver course content online and out of class time can allow for the development of a student-centered classroom environment conducive to autonomous learning and engagement with material. In this session, Judy Larsen will share her experiences with developing and delivering a hybrid upgrading mathematics course through the implementation of a flipped classroom model. Aims for choosing the flipped classroom design and implementation strategies will be over viewed along with a demonstration of the technology used to create the design (Camtasia, PowerPoint, & Blackboard Learn). Attendees will have a chance to collaborate about ideal learning environments, share personal experiences with blended learning environments, discuss concerns about the flipped classroom design, and ask questions about implementation and student response to the design. Finally, future direction for the flipped classroom model will be considered.

Presented at the Georgia Libraries Conference in Columbus, GA on 10/03/2018.
There are many information literacy concepts that are difficult to integrate into a course. The development of modules provides a concrete lesson plan that can be presented and repackaged to work within the barriers associated with limited instruction time and increase faculty buy-in. We will present a 5-segment module on copyright and fair use of creative works that may be used as a standalone unit or modified to meet a specific instruction demand. In addition to reviewing through the components of the module we will discuss how the template could be used in other areas of information literacy.

Enterprise Project and Portfolio Management: Managing the RevolutionUMT
Most large organizations routinely need to balance the need for centralized control and local autonomy. Different lines of business may have unique objectives, and it’s often difficult to envision implementing standardized processes. Dispersed companies tend to slowly gravitate away from homogenous practices and this leads to fragmented policies and the use of disparate systems. In more extreme circumstances, merger and acquisition activity may attempt to quickly assimilate entirely distinct organizations. However, implementing the Comprehensive EPM methodologies and frameworks in a systematic manner will yield predictable results that include savings, improved transparency and better alignment with company strategies.

Is it important for learners to grasp the notion of themselves as changing and learning over time in order to gain the full benefits of using e-portfolios? I would argue that from our research as part of the e-portfolio research coalition (http://ncepr.org) it is important.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Paper by Gordon, Lisa and Liz on 5 threshold concepts of eP: purpose, LA design, processes, ownership, disruptive
How to make it as effective for as many students as possible. Not the things I would have picked out in 2005 or in 2007
1 st student had dyslexia. Thought that multimedia was a nice add-on but not realised just how important it was for some students.
It being the process of recording, reflecting and planning.
Disruptive
NB: this was from a student who hated doing their portfolio. The potentials for learning are there but in a modularise, assessment driven system we may miss them. Links to disruptive.
