2. INTRODUCTION:
The title reflects God’s
character itself – a God
who cares and
provides
Genesis 22:13-14 (NIV)
Abraham looked up and there in
a thicket he saw a ram caught by
its horns. He went over and took
the ram and sacrificed it as a
burnt offering instead of his son.
So Abraham called the place The
LORD Will Provide. And to this
day it is said, “On the mountain
of the Lord it will be provided”.

3. Genesis 22:13-14 (KJV)
22:13-
13And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold
behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and
Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a
burnt offering in the stead of his son.
14And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as
Jehovahjireh:
it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.

4. Abraham’s Faith
Faith.
1. His faith seen in his earlier calling and
of God’s promise to him
Genesis 12:1 – Now the Lord had said
unto Abram: Get thee out of thy
country and from thy kindred and
from thy father’s house unto a land
that I will shew thee:
2 – And I will make of thee a great
nation and I will bless thee and make
thy name great; and thou shalt be a
blessing
3 – And I will bless them that bless
thee and curse him that curseth thee;
and in thee shall all families of the
earth be blessed

5. 2. His faith is the result of his
understanding of God’s plan
for his life and the nations
Galatians 3: 8 –
And the scripture,
foreseeing that God
would justify the
heathen through faith,
preached before the
gospel unto Abraham
saying, In thee shall all
nations be blessed.

6. What is faith?
It is the ability to
see the unseen
Faith is believing
and true believing
is obedience
Hebrews 11:1 -
Now faith is the substance
of things hoped for, the
evidence of things not seen

7. OBEDIENCE = ACTION = FAITH
Faith and obedience
goes together
James 2: 21 – Was not Abraham
our father justified by works
when he had offered Isaac his
son upon the altar?
22 – Seest thou how faith
wrought with his works and by
works was faith made perfect?

8. 3. Abraham obeyed
regardless of the cost

9. 4. Abraham obeyed because he was
God’s friend
3 times in
scriptures:
2 Chronicles 20: 7 – Art not thou our God who didst drive out
the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel and
gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
Isaiah 44: 8 – but thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I
have chosen, thy seed of Abraham my friend
James 2:23 – and the scripture was fulfilled which saith,
Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for
righteousness; and he was called the friend of God

10. To be a friend of God one must do His will
The offering of Isaac

11. Are you God’s friend?
Ye are my friends, if ye do
whatsoever I command you.

12. Genesis 21: 1 – And the Lord visited Sarah as he had
said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken
2 – For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in
his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken
to him
Genesis 22: 1 – And It came to pass after
these things that God did tempt Abraham,
and said unto him, Abraham: and he said,
Behold here I am.
2 – And he said: Take now thy son, thine
only son Isaac whom thou lovest and get
thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him
there as a burnt offering upon one of the
mountains which I will tell thee of
What would you do?

13. What the offering of Isaac revealed
concerning the faith of Abraham:
1. It revealed an obedient faith
James 2: 21- was not
Abraham our father justified
by works when he had
offered Isaac his son upon

perfect?

14. 2. It revealed a faith that obeys
with exactness
The exactness of God’s directions:
Genesis 22:2 – and he said, take now thy son, thine
only son Isaac, whom thou lovest and get thee into the
land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering
upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of

a. Specified what God
wanted - a burnt offering
b. Specified whom God
wanted - Isaac
c. Specified where God
wanted- Mount Moriah
Abraham obeyed
with exactness

16. 3. It revealed a faith that would
obey without question
Why didn’t Abraham question God?
Romans 4:20 – he staggered not at the promise of God
through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God
21 – and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised he
was able also to perform
22 – and therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness

19. Cost of Obedience
25And there went great multitudes with
him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26If any man come to me, and hate not his
father, and mother, and wife, and children,
and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own
life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27And whosoever doth not bear his cross,
and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth
the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that
behold it begin to mock him,
30Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first,
and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh
against him with twenty thousand?
32Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and
desireth conditions of peace.
33So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he
cannot be my disciple.

20. What will obedience cost us?
Mark 10: 28 – then Peter began to say
unto him, lo, we have left all and have
followed thee
29 - and Jesus answered and said: verily
I say unto you, there is no man that hath
left house or brethren or sisters or father
or mother or wife or children or lads for
my sake and the gospel’s
30 – but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time,
houses, and brethren and sisters and mothers and children and
lands with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life
31 – but many that are first shall be last; and the last first
