3. JAZZ CHANT
•Jazz chant is a poem that employs jazz rhythms to
show the natural stress, rhythm, and intonation
patterns of informal or conversational English. It
provides you an exciting way to improve your
speaking as well as your listening comprehension
skills at the same time reinforcing language
structures and vocabulary that are used in everyday
situations.
4. TIPS IN DELIVERING A JAZZ CHANT
•1. Deliver the piece in a fast rhythm
which is almost like rap.
•2. Do not cut or pause word for word to
create emphasis.
•3. Feel the piece to attain an effective
delivery.
5. • 4. Three voices may be used: light, medium, and dark
voices. If the piece calls for happiness or the person
speaking is young then light voices are used. Use the
dark voice for the piece that implies mourning or
sadness or when the person speaking is an old one.
Medium voices are employed when lines have to be
repeated or for refrains and those lines in which light
or dark voices may not be applicable.
6. •5. Do not delete any word nor
modify any line in the material.
•6. Few movements may be used,
such as clapping of the hands,
moving the head, and moving the
body to the rhythm.
