2. Our unit on Fractions, Decimals, and Percents is divided into
three sections. We have not yet completed the third section, but
we will soon. Our warm-up today will be two questions from
each of the three sections.
Do the warm-up questions as if you were taking the test. The
test on part I will be on Wednesday, January 27th. The
questions on the test will be similar to those today.

5. Section 3: Finding Percent/Solving Percent Problems (so far)
1. If you are at school from 7:30 - 3:30, what percent of your
day is spent at school? (Round to nearest percent)
2. The winner of the grand prize in the raffle drawing
will get 15% of the prize now, which is $600. The rest of
the money is to be paid next month. How much is the
total grand prize?

6. Compliments:
Two numbers are compliments when their sum is equal
to 100%. In other words, the sum of the two parts equals
the whole. Every number has its own compliment.

Solve in one step:

8. When you need to find the percent of a set
quantity (not changing), then you can use the
percent proportion to solve.
Example: Dwight missed 9 out of 12 free throws,
what percent did he make?

that has changed (price, population, quantity), you then use
the percent of change formula….

9. A percent change is an increase or decrease given as a
percent of the original amount.
All percent changes are written as positive numbers.
A percent decrease describes an amount that has been
reduced.

Last question, and very do-able using mental math only: In
2005, the enrollment at MHS was ≈ 1100 students. Today it is
≈ 1600. What is the percent change in enrollment.
