Janis Joplin was a singer from Texas known for her blues and folk music. She ran away from home at 17 and began singing in bars in San Francisco. Her career took off in the 1960s after joining Big Brother and the Holding Company, and she released multiple successful albums, but struggled with drug addiction and died of an overdose in 1970 at the age of 27.
