What does the plant look like?

It is not poisonous or edible,

many other problems.
Is it ecologically significant?
Alder roots fix nitrogen

an understory plant in forests, alder
promotes growth of many deciduous
and coniferous trees. Songbirds eat
the “seeds,” and it is the larval host
for the green comma butterfly; it
also attracts the tent caterpillar moth
and other moths.
