SUMMARY OF MY CAREER
Izak van Zyl is a former SAPS Lieut Colonel with more than 23 years active Police
experience. He is a Public Relations Specialist with 16 years active PR Experience
in the South African Police Service. Manager of the External /Medial Liaison
section at the Office of the Mpumalanga Police Commissioner for 10 years. During
2007/2008 he was transferred to Vosman Police as a Public Relations officer.
End of October 2008 he willfully resigned from the SAPS and followed a career as
free-lance polygraph examiner until present.

4. OUTSTANDING EVENTS
o 1993 – Appointment as Public Relations officer at SAP Regional Head-
Office, Eastern Transvaal, Developed and launch internal SAPS news
communiqué.
1997 – 2008 - Several Media Encounters regarding high profile police activities.
Events Coordinator and program director at Official opening events of new
Police buildings between 1993 and 2008.
2000 – Promotion to the rank of Lieut-Colonel responsible for media relations and
and external communication. (Deputy Provincial Head).
2004 - Successfull completion of PRISA(Public Relations Practitioners’s course)
2005 –Coordinating SAPS national Soccer tournament and SAPS excellence
awards( Best police station) as events manager and program director.
2007 – Coordinating of National police tennis Championships. Events manager
and program director during the prize giving ceremony.
2007 till 2008 – Transfer to SAPS : Vosman SAPS Duties included:
o Arrangement of Teambuilding session for management
o Arrangement of medal parade for more than 500 SAPS members
o Campaign to address domestic violence with 5000 community members
and wide media coverage in prominent media houses.
o Active participation in PAD(people against drugs) and MRM(Moral
regenegaration movement) to instill good values in communities where
crime and drugs are thriving.

6. CAREER HISTORY
2008 October he wilfully resigned from the SAPS and works until present as a
Free-lance Polygraph examiner.
October 2007 as part of SAPS restructuring was transferred to Vosman SAPS as
the Communication manager of the SAPS : Vosman.
1993 – 2007 transferred to Eastern Transvaal Provincial Headquarters as a public
relations practitioner. Was promoted to Lieutenant during 1994. Promoted to
Captain during 1995 and to Lieut-Colonel during 2000. He was the Official
spokesperson for Provincial commissioner during this period as well as acting
Provincial Head : Communication and Liaison services during 2006/2007.
Worked in close relation with Police Senior management, visible policing, crime
investigation units, crime intelligence and the “falcons”
1991-1992 – transferred to SAPS Dog school. Trained as a SAPS instructor and
dog handler. Was promoted to Warrant officer during 1991
During May 1989 transfered to SAPS Klerkskraal as Station Commander with
the rank of sergeant. Served there until 1991.
1988 – 1989- Transferred to SAPS Ventersdorp. Promoted to the rank of sergeant
during 1988. Worked as a shift commander and uniform investigations.
Investigated a wide variety of cases eg. Culpable homicide, murder, stock theft,
assault gbh, attempted murder, crimen injuria, etc.
Basic training @ SAPS College Pretoria West. Was placed at the provincial
reaction unit ( unit 4 – western Transvaal) dealing with urban and border
terrorism, unrest, strikes, smuggling, etc.). Worked in close relation with Crime
Intelligence and specialized unit eg, SANAB, Murder and robbery units etc.
