Profile.
An excellent leader and team member, Steve is currently available foremployment following a highly
successful 30-year career in the Police Force. Steve spent the majority of his career in management
positions, finally retiring as a T/Detective Inspector. He has an extensive knowledge of staff
management and driving a team forward,being involvedin some of the most complex and challenging
investigations known. Teams under his guidance have always produced outstanding results. His
managers have sponsored periods of secondment to other organisations in various areas of the
country, to enable them to benefit from his expertise and knowledge. He has provided invaluable
support tocolleagues dealing withextremely difficultinvestigations and has been asked totake a small,
but dedicated, team of individuals with him fortheir development. Steve leads by example and is a fine
role model. He excels in the area of staff development/management whilst delivering at pace. An
effective communicator (both written and verbal), Steve has an excellent eye for detail and is
experienced at compiling complex reports. He has an able, willing, professional attitude and an

Employment History.
May 2014 to December 2015 – T/Detective Inspector, Home Office CFI:
The final role of his service was as a seconded officer with the Home Office, assisting the Crime &
Financial Investigations Team, based in Sheffield. His role included:
 Working throughout the UK, dealing with organised crime groups involved in unlawful
immigration. Successfully leading all Sheffield investigations as Senior Investigating Officer.
 Undertaking additional responsibilities for developing, mentoring and tutoring the Chief
Immigration Officer and his staff, who subsequently passed crucial necessary examinations.
 Learning and extending his own knowledge and experience with another organisation, as well
as building partnerships and developing good working relationships with other agencies.
 Attaining promotion to the rank of T/Detective Inspector, whilst being given greater
responsibility for investigations throughout the entire North East of England.
 Managing and developing other regional resources, and supporting other training initiatives.
Steve has recently been SC cleared and fully vetted by the security services for his Home Office role.
August 1999 to May 2014 – Detective Sergeant, South Yorkshire Police:
After11 years of dedicated serviceon theMajor IncidentTeam, Steve leftin May 2014. He had obtained
an excellent reputation forcommitment, hard work, professionalism and leadership. Other highlights:
 Volunteering to assist with the repatriation and identification of British Nationals involved in
the Asian Tsunami in 2004, spending 3 months in London assisting his colleagues. Later
receiving a letter of thanks from DowningStreet, acknowledging the dedication/effortsshown.
 Other forces calling on his skills and knowledge in relation to complex investigations in their
area. One example, in Nottingham, where he led a team of officers to deal with a series of
gangland murders. Achieving a 100% detection rate, but whilst being most costeffectivetothe
host force, in comparison to 6 other forces that were also providing assistance.
 Steve’s knowledge and management of the HOLMES computer system, as well as other
excellent IT skills he possesses (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) led him to be selected for the
role of officemanager within the newly formed Major Incident Team in 2003. He led his team
in the most serious and complex investigations, achieving an outstanding detection rate.

 Senior managers recruited him to fill a challenging position within the Financial Investigation
Unit. Issues surrounding staff and working practices were causing problems within the unit
and Steve’s experience and knowledge were considered ideal to resolve the situation. He
established new procedures within a very short period and dealt with the staffing issues in a
professional and effective manner. During this period, he worked closely with the Serious
Fraud Office, gaining sound financial skills, which he utilises effectively to this day.
 Initially promoted to a pro-active drugs team, he maximised his procedural and criminal
knowledge by completing a period as custody officerin the busiest custody suite in the region,
again receiving commendations and praise for his good work, initiative and team working.
December 1985 to August 1999 – Constable, South Yorkshire Police.
Progressing from auniformed constable toa detectiveconstable, Steve has acquired many skills, which
he successfully utilised ona daily basis, including Team Building, Self-Motivation,Communication, Staff
and Time Management, ProblemSolving, ForwardPlanning and Responsibility. He put into practiceall
these skills, as well as conducting himself with Integrity, Reliability, Effectiveness and Efficiency.
May 1982 to December 1985 – Debenhams, The Moor, Sheffield:
From 16-years old, Steve workedevery Saturday as a salesman at Greens in Debenhams. This involved
him selling electrical items on one of the busiest departments in the store. Steve’s attitude impressed
his manager during this period, and he was taken on full-time in December of that year, remaining in
this position until joining the Police. Prior to leaving, Steve was the top salesman in the department.

During his career, Steve has attended and passed dozens of specified courses, which he can evidence
should the necessity arise, but featured below are a few potentially relevant courses:

excellence voted for by supervisors and peers alike.

Personal Interests.
Steve has passed the International Certificate of Competence examination to sail motorised pleasure
craft up to 80 feet in length, and loves to spend time at sea whenever possible. He enjoys spending
time with his family,eating out, foreign traveland walking.Steve has always been an active sportsman,
competing at Boxing, Rugby and Golf,and has had the privilege of being a golf club captain. During his
tenure as captain he organised a new annual tournament (also supplying the trophy) and raised more
money for charity than ever done so previously. He enjoys watching a variety of sports, especially
football.
