INTERNSHIP POSITION INFORMATION
Internship Position Title: Sustainable Agri-Fisheries Livelihood Training Specialist

Position Description: Project Description:
WPU has a Binduyan Marine Research Station (BMRS) which is used for
ongoing mariculture projects, student researches/fieldwork activities, and
annual summer ecology camp. WPU main curricular programs are
Fisheries and Agriculture. WPU faculty have expertise in such areas as
top shell/abalone culture, aquasilviculture, pond culture, vermiculture,
organic farming, food processing, etc. However, faculty have very limited
time for extension/outreach activities. Being a province with narrow
lowland areas, the main source of income of most local people are
Fisheries and Agriculture. They are dependent on the rich natural
resources that they harvest and utilize. However, unsustainable resource
use leads to depletion of their income sources which increase poverty
and insufficiency. The aim of this internship is to alleviate poverty by
empowering the coastal communities to engage in sustainable resource
use and enhance their skills for alternative livelihood.
Position Description:
The primary activities of the intern will include writing of livelihood training
modules, mapping and design of demonstration facilities, assisting in
setting-up of demo farm/areas, inventory of
farmers/fishermen/housewives in Binduyan and other coastal villages,
meeting with barangay officials and association leaders, dry run/facilitate
training using the module for selected participants in Binduyan,
packaging of module and making brochures/leaflets. The job of the
interns will include site visits, data gathering and processing,
office/computer works, conduct of trainings and report writing. The intern
should coordinate with the faculty in charge and/or the personnel in the
project site. The output of this internship will be a module or compilation
of livelihood trainings, site plan (map and development design),
brochures/leaflets, e-media (blog/website/group) and terminal/
accomplishment report with photo documentation of all the activities
performed throughout the internship.
Qualifications:
A degree in Fisheries/Agriculture/Biology/Natural Resource
Management/Rural Development/Financial Management/Business
Economics, possesses good communication skills and/or experience in
livelihood trainings and community organizing, culture-
sensitive/adaptable, and computer literate.
