Editor's Notes
A quick run-down of what we did in the parallel session.
Looked at the background of XML, what it is, how it differs from HTML, what it does (gives meaning or definition to your raw information), and why it is useful (separate content from presentation)
Looked at XSL, what it does (allows you to transform XML in to a range of different formats)
Some practical work using XML and XSL
Looked at using XSL to convert a single XML document into different formats.
Most people seemed to find the workshop useful judging by the feedback forms.
Seemed to give people a thirst to find out more, or to continue pursuing their early experiments with XML.
Quite a few IT departments will be unhappy with us... several people expressed a wish to get Cocoon installed at their institution.
Many people suggested that the session could have been longer, and that a longer course would be useful. (Discuss on web-support and we'll see what we can do? All the session resources will be online by the end of the week)
