Importance of CAR T Therapy
• Breakthrough in hematologic cancer treatment in which a
patient’s own T cells are engineered to seek and attack cancer
cells
• Involves removing a patient’s immune cells, modifying those
cells, then infusing them back in the patient to fight cancer
• Each treatment is manufactured specifically for an individual
patient
• Yescarta® establishes Gilead’s leadership in this new cell
therapy – now approved for adult patients with relapsed or
refractory large B-cell lymphoma after two or more lines of
systemic therapy
• Research into other B-cell malignancies, earlier lines of therapy
and solid tumors are planned/ongoing

Constructive Disruption Through Standardization
As with any rapidly growing company, Gilead Sciences Procurement function
has been challenged to meet growing demand. Scout was initially selected as a
tool to standardize and accelerate our RFPs.
Ultimately, we saw that Scout could go far beyond RFPs. Our initial challenge
was to successfully launch Scout across 35+ Sourcing resources with:
• multiple spend category leaders
• varied procurement practices
• different business line needs
• distinct geographic coverage areas
Beyond launching a tool, Scout’s roll out became an opportunity to standardize
and raise the bar for how the entire Procurement function performed.

Once started with Scout for RFPs, it is easy to see that benefit can be gained in
tracking other supplier related information.
Scout is an excellent data capture tool, be sure to cleanse historical data prior to launch

Importance of CAR T Therapy • Breakthrough in hematologic cancer treatment in which a patient’s own T cells are engineered to seek and attack cancer cells • Involves removing a patient’s immune cells, modifying those cells, then infusing them back in the patient to fight cancer • Each treatment is manufactured specifically for an individual patient • Yescarta® establishes Gilead’s leadership in this new cell therapy – now approved for adult patients with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma after two or more lines of systemic therapy • Research into other B-cell malignancies, earlier lines of therapy and solid tumors are planned/ongoing

Scout was initially selected as a tool to standardize and accelerate our RFPs. Ultimately, we saw that Scout could go far beyond RFPs. Our initial challenge was to successfully launch Scout across 35+ Sourcing resources with: • multiple spend category leaders • varied procurement practices • different business line needs • distinct geographic coverage areas Beyond launching a tool, Scout’s roll out became an opportunity to standardize and raise the bar for how the entire Procurement function performed.

We agreed to initially focus on three capabilities. scoping discussion allowed the category owners to share differences in how they operate Takeaway Tip #1 Scout offer flexible options for logging one time and recurring cost savings. Make sure that you spend time as a team standardizing before entering savings. 1

Grouping the fields within logical sections made data entry easier for our team members. resolving field definitions is an opportunity to standardize across categories for reporting Takeaway Tip #2 Develop a master list of fields to resolve differences and clarify how people have historically used information.   2. BRIAN It’s been very rewarding for us to be at the center of transforming an HIV diagnosis from a death sentence to a manageable chronic disease. The development of STRs has played a pivotal role. If you were a patient diagnosed with HIV in 1996, the handful of about 30 pills on your left is what your regimen would look like to control the virus. This often came with debilitating side effects. On the right is what we call a single tablet regimen – one pill with 3 or more medications combined in one dose. This is taken once a day. We introduced Atripla in 2006, Complera in 2011, Stribild in 2012, Genvoya in 2015, Odefsey in 2016 and Biktarvy in 2018. 11.5 million patients with HIV in more than 130 low and middle income countries are receiving generic or branded Gilead medicines through our access program
