Azure was announced in October 2008 and released on 1 February 2010 as Windows Azure, before being renamed to Microsoft Azure on 25 March 2014. Along with Amazon Web Services Azure is considered a leader in the IAAS field.
Microsoft Azure is an open and flexible cloud platform that enables you to quickly build, deploy, and manage applications across a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. You can build applications using any language, tool, or framework. And you can integrate your public cloud applications with your existing IT environment.
This definition tells us that Microsoft Azure is a cloud platform, which means you can use it for running your business applications, services, and workloads in the cloud. But it also includes some key words that tell us even more:
Open Microsoft Azure provides a set of cloud services that allow you to build and deploy cloud-based applications using almost any programming language, framework, or tool.
Flexible Microsoft Azure provides a wide range of cloud services that can let you do everything from hosting your company’s website to running big SQL databases in the cloud. It also includes different features that can help deliver high performance and low latency for cloud-based applications.
Microsoft-managed Microsoft Azure services are currently hosted in several datacenters spread across the United States, Europe, and Asia. These datacenters are managed by Microsoft and provide expert global support on a 24x7x365 basis.
Compatible Cloud applications running on Microsoft Azure can easily be integrated with on-premises IT environments that utilize the Microsoft Windows Server platform.
It provides both PAAS and IAAS services and supports many different programming languages, tools and frameworks, including both Microsoft-specific and third-party software and systems.

Application Modernization using the Strangler PatternTom Laszewski
Modernization of applications on mainframe and UNIX servers can be challenging because the applications and databases are highly integrated and interdependent. Utilizing the strangler pattern, organizations can break free of legacy debt on mainframe and UNIX systems. Ready for take-off - How to get your databases into the cloudAndre Essing
"Cloud: the next frontier.
These are the voyages of enterprise databases. Their mission: to move all its data to the cloud; to help administrators and developers build stable and scaling applications; to empower every organization on the planet to achieve more."
In this talk, we will have a look at how to get your databases into the cloud. What are the possibilities? Which effort is needed? And even how to get the data movement started.
Sit back and enjoy the safe and smooth journey of your databases to the cloud.
Should you be getting more from your data? If you’ve answered yes, perhaps you’re exploring how you can power new analytics and apps by streaming data from on-premises, open source, and hybrid cloud environments to your desired cloud endpoints (i.e.: Cosmos DB and/or Synapse) in real time. Getting your data from point A to point B can be expensive, time-consuming and complex. Fortunately, there’s a much easier way. Join Microsoft’s Kal Yella, Luciano Moreira, and Confluent’s Jacob Bogie to learn how you can connect multi-cloud and hybrid data to Azure cloud, reducing the complexity and cost associated with building real-time applications and analytics in the cloud.
Creating Real-Time Data Mashups with Node.JS and Adobe CQiCiDIGITAL
Adobe CQ is great at managing the authored content, but is less adept at handling the real-time data. The time it takes to ingest the data and replicate it is too long – the data will have already changed.
Node.JS has a broad and diverse developer community. If you want to build something with Node, chances are someone else has already done the same thing.

Migrating Databases to AWS for Business Critical Applications and Analytics Amazon Web Services
Migrating business critical applications to a new environment can be difficult and expensive. The short duration of maintenance windows often dictates the use of costly tools to perform change data capture (CDC) from the source to target databases so that the switch over process happens as quickly as possible. Amazon Web Services recently introduced the Database Migration Service (DMS) that supports the migration of databases from on-premises to the cloud with CDC support. This session will explain how DMS provides a simple and cost effective way to migrate business critical applications to Amazon Web Services. It will also cover how DMS enables new workloads for analytics, dev/test and heterogeneous database migrations.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery.
