This document summarizes research on the progress and challenges facing Israel's Ethiopian population. It finds that while Ethiopian-Israelis strongly identify as Israeli and Jewish, many still face difficulties integrating decades after first arriving in Israel. Educational achievement gaps have narrowed but remain, with boys lagging behind girls. Poverty rates are very high among Ethiopian families due to larger family size, lower levels of education, and wage gaps compared to other Jewish Israelis. Overall the research finds mixed results on social issues between generations, with risks increasing among Ethiopian youth.
