Isolines are lines on a map that connect points of equal value, such as temperature, air pressure, elevation, latitude, or longitude. There are five major types of isolines: isotherms, isobars, contour lines, parallels, and meridians. Isolines must never cross each other, begin and end at the edge of the map or form closed circles, and usually appear as wavy parallel lines.
