Islamophobia refers to prejudice against or fear of Muslims. It has increased since the September 11 terrorist attacks when many started associating Muslims with terrorism. Some countries like Bulgaria, Bosnia, China, and Burma have seen violence against Muslim minorities. Western countries like France, Denmark, Germany, and the UK have also experienced Islamophobic incidents like hijab bans, controversial cartoons, and attacks describing Muslims as isolationist. However, countries like Canada that emphasize freedom of religion have communities that are generally more accepting of Islam and willing to defend Muslims against Islamophobia as shown in a social experiment video.
