The word ‘dyslexia’:
If you can’t read it,
say it, or
spell it,
                        you might have it.
-Slow reading
-Poor spelling
-Struggling writer
-Words mispronounced
-Inaccurate word recognition


    -all unexpected based on intelligence-
Dyslexics often excel in:

*Problem solving
*Creative thinking
*Sports
*The Arts
*Theatre/ Music
•Affects 10-15% of students
• Reading = necessary for success
• Under diagnosed
     “Just try harder”
• School is frustrating
• Many give up
No Quick Fix (beware of snake oil)
                        Hereditary
             Brain-based disorder
              Often co-exists with:
                      •Depression
                        •ADD/ADHD
*Remember “The Bright Side”

*Get educated

*Use a tutor trained in multisensory approach

*Be a supporter and encourager
