A whirlwind tour of Ruby projects, off the Rails.
There is more to Ruby than Rails and there is nothing wrong with Rails, we’re just pretending it doesn’t exist for the next 25 minutes...
An introduction to PHP, covering topics from history of the platform and personalities involved, to strengths/weaknesses of the language and how to best use it.

In recent years dynamically typed languages have received more and more attention on the .NET platform. Initially, an implementation of Python showed up. Later, the Dynamic Language Runtime (DLR) appeared which made it much easier to implement dynamically typed languages on .NET. This session explores how dynamically typed languages fit in the ecosystem of .NET. We’ll see why dynamic languages are interesting and contrast them to their static brethren (C#, Java). Then we will touch on how IronPython and IronRuby are implemented on .NET via the Dynamic Language Runtime (DLR). Finally, we’ll look at some code examples of how you can utilize these languages on .NET today.

Concurrent Programming with Ruby and Tuple Spacesluccastera
Ruby threads are limited due to the Global Interpreter Lock. Therefore, the best way to do parallel computing with Ruby is to use multiple processes but how do you get these processes to communicate?
This session will provide some strategies for handling multi-process communication in Ruby, with a focus on the use of TupleSpaces. A TupleSpace provides a repository of tuples that can be accessed concurrently to implement a Blackboard system. Ruby ships with a built-in implementation of a TupleSpace with the Rinda library.
During the session, Luc will demonstrate how to use Rinda and will highlight other libraries/projects that facilitate interprocess communication and parallel computing in Ruby.
A quick introduction to the object-oriented programming language Ruby, part of a full lecture on Programming Paradigms at UCL university in Belgium, focussing on the programming languages Smalltalk, Ruby and Java, with reflection and meta programming as underlying theme.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
