The evaluation rubric assesses apps across 5 domains: curriculum connection, authenticity, feedback, differentiation, user friendliness, student motivation, and reporting. An effective app strongly connects skills to targeted concepts, uses authentic problem-based learning, provides specific feedback to improve performance, offers complete flexibility to adjust settings, allows independent use, motivates continued student use, and electronically reports data to students and teachers.
Participants will be walked through the advantages and disadvantages of using an iDevice, such as an iPod, iPhone, or iPad as an assistive technology device. We will discuss the considerations for accessibility and hidden costs when considering an iDevice as assistive technology. Of course, we will have iDevices on hand for demonstration on how these cool gadgets can also be used as an assistive listening device, communication aid, and even a computer mouse!

The need to adapt the system’s behavior to user preferences is a reality in many fields of knowledge. Specifically in the e-learning area it is very important to be aware of learner differences so that scenarios can be composed that are tailored to the student’s best learning conditions and aptitudes. This paper proposes a mechanism to retrieve learning objects based on the analysis of user preference data garnered from contextual information about student interactions. This mechanism is performed by a component of a system architecture that builds an e-learning scenario dynamically, according to the student’s classification in a specific learning profile. The purpose of the architecture is to personalize e-learning scenarios by presenting the student with several learning objects.
