The Home Button
Pressing the Home Button one time
exits an app and returns you to the
home screen.

Tapping an app icon one time
opens the app.

Apps in the dock always
remain on the screen even when
you switch to a new page.

Fast App Switcher
Pressing the Home Button two times
shows your open apps and allows you
to switch between them without
returning to the home screen.

Sleep Mode
To start sleep mode, press the
button on the top right of the iPad.

Power Off
To power off the iPad, press and
hold the button on the top right of
the iPad for approximately 3 seconds.
Then, slide the circle to the right.

Airplane Mode
To turn on airplane mode, open
Settings, locate the airplane mode on
the top left and drag the bar to the right.

Volume
To adjust the iPad’s volume, use the
two buttons on the right side of the iPad.

eSpark Volume
To use the eSpark app, you must
grant it access to the microphone.
Open Settings, Privacy, Microphone and
click the slider next to eSpark so it is green.

eSpark Video
To use the eSpark app, you must
grant it access to the camera.
Open Settings, Privacy, Camera and
click the slider next to eSpark so it is green.

Search
To search the iPad, drag three
fingers down from the marked area.

Wifi Settings
To check if the iPad’s wifi is turned on,
drag one finger up from the marked area.

Exiting an App
To exit an app place all 5 fingers
on the screen and pinch them
together until the app disappears.

Force Close
Press the Home Button two times
to find the “fast app switcher.” Touch
and hold the app you want to close,
and drag it upwards until it disappears.

Zoom In
To zoom in on a webpage, place two fingers
together on the area and drag them apart.
Or double tap the area with one finger.

Zoom Out
To zoom out on a webpage, place two fingers
apart on the area and pinch them together.
Or double tap the area with one finger.

Screen Shots
To take a screen shot, simultaneously
press and hold the power button and the
home button for approximately 1 second.

Notes
To create a new note in the Notes app,
tap the pen and paper symbol in the top
right corner. Tap the blank note to find the
keyboard. Then, use the keyboard to type.

Creating a Folder
To create a new folder, tap and hold a
finger on an app, then, when the apps
start moving, drag it on top of the another
app you want in the folder. Let go when
you can see the grey box. Press the
Home Button to stop the apps from moving.

Adding Apps to Dock
To add apps to the dock, tap and hold a
finger on an app, then, when the apps
start moving, drag it onto the shaded area
of the dock. Let go of the app. Press the
Home Button to stop the apps from moving.

Keyboards
To find the number keyboard, press the
“123” key on the bottom left. To find the
symbol keyboard, press the “#+=” key on the
bottom left of the numbers keyboard. To return
to the letter keyboard press the “ABC” key.

Cut/Copy/Paste/
Double tap a word to Highlight it. Then,
use the blue dots to drag the highlight to
include any other words you want to move.
When the word is highlighted, a menu will
appear.
Select, “cut” (or copy/replace).
Double tap where you want to insert the
word.
Click “paste”.

Switching Apps
To switch between open apps,
place 4 fingers on the screen
and drag them to the left.

Passcodes
To set a passcode, go to Settings, Passcode, Turn
Passcode On. You will be prompted to choose and
confirm a passcode. Simple Passcodes are only
numbers (e.g. ‘1234’). Normal Passcodes can have
letters and numbers (e.g. eSpark123). To disable
a passcode tap ‘Turn Passcode Off.’ You will need
to provide the passcode in order to disable it.
Make sure ‘Erase Data’ is off!

Speak Selection
To turn on Speech Selection, go to Settings,
General, Accessibility, Speech, and turn the
Speech Selection on by sliding the button to
the right so it turns green. Slide the
Speaking Rate circle towards the turtle on
the left.
