This document summarizes key elements of involuntary manslaughter law through examples of legal cases. It discusses the requirements that the unlawful act must be: 1) unlawful, 2) objectively dangerous, and 3) the substantial cause of death. For the unlawful act to be the cause of death, the death must be foreseeable and not due to an intervening event. The unlawful act must also be intentional, though there does not need to be intent to cause harm. Students are assigned consolidation tasks involving analyzing case examples against these legal elements and producing a poster summarizing their assessments.
