LTE-Advanced is a new mobile network technology being tested in South Korea that aims to provide internet speeds up to 600 megabytes per second, 40 times faster than current 3G networks. Early tests have shown the ability to download a 700MB file in under 10 seconds. The technology is being developed by 470 researchers from companies like LG, Samsung, and Qualcomm, with the goal of deployment in 2014. It promises to deliver high quality streaming media even for passengers in moving vehicles. Widespread adoption will depend on deployment of 4G networks and may not reach other countries for 5 more years after Korea. The technology ultimately aims to improve network speed and efficiency for the benefit of society.
