- As part of this session, we’ll be looking at company highlights past, present and future … we’ll be discussing our recent acquisition of Tandberg Data and the synergies that exist with the newly combined company … we’ll be addressing how we, as a combined entity, plan to support our customers moving forward … and we’ll look at Overland’s vision for the future. - So let’s begin by taking a look at some of the company highlights associated with Overland Storage.
- The primary advantage of remote data backup is to move the data to a central location (or multiple independent locations) where IT personnel are located and better equipped to deal with the management of the data. This is an example of a "pull" transfer job template. File backups take advantage of incremental changes in files, reducing the amount of bandwidth utilized during backup. File ownership* changes will be applied to files at the central location, even if the file contents have not changed. Ability to mirror the directory structure and files between the remote hosts and the target host locally-attached storage. The layout of the source data is maintained on the target system. *File ownership preservation is not heterogeneous. For example, if you need to maintain both UNIX and CIFS permissions you will need to have at least two target (or receiving agents). The backup is not a “special” file. It is an instantly usable backup. “Data consistent snapshot” • Restore backup data from central location to one or many hosts • Restore backup data from central location to heterogeneous host platforms • Restore from any one of the backup copies stored in the central location • Restore entire backup or specified data sets • Restore backup data from a particular host to one or many other hosts • Preserve file ownership permissions
