LESSON 2: WEB HOSTING AND PUBLISHING
• Website Host – is a repository where
all files and scripts of your website
are stored.
• Things to consider:
a. Hosting space
b. Bandwith
c. Server Software
d. Operating System
PUBLISHING TO THE WEB
Steps to consider for website publication:
1. Testing the site offline;
2. Registering a domain name for the site;
3. Finding a web host provider;
4. Uploading the web data;
5. Testing the site online;
6. Promoting the site; and
7. Maintaining the site;
SITE TESTING
Testing is done to check the following:
1. Download and uploading of files and
documents;
2. All hyperlinks and the navigation are working
properly;
3. The design of the webpages and web content
layout are in order;
4. No errors in coding HTML , CSS, and Javascript.
LESSON 3: DOMAIN NAMES AND WEB HOSTS
Domain Name – or URL (Unified Resource Locator) –
uniquely identifies the website’s web address.
Cyber-squatting – the act of registering a domain at a
higher price.

Numbers (ICANN)
STEPS TO REGISTER A DOMAIN NAME
1. Identify desired domain name.
2. Check the availability of the chose
domain name.
3. Check registration prices.
4. Register the domain name.
5. Pay the domain name registration.
6. Get a confirmation message.

1. Web host provider – are service
provider of your website.
2. Things to consider:
- Cost
- Space
- Bandwith
- Technology

Web Usability – is the ease of using or
browsing a website.
WHY WEB USABILITY IS IMPORTANT?
BECAUSE:
1. Allows users to easily find the
information;
2. It can hold attention of the visitors;
3. It has advanced features;
4. It has highly interactive properties; and
5. The contents load quickly;
WEB USABILITY STANDARDS
A. Accessibility
• All major pages are accessible from the Home Page.
• The Home Page is accessible from all pages of the site.
• Relevant information are searchable.
• Content are understandable and presented in a
language that the target site visitor can understand.

• Functions are clearly labeled and easily understood.
• Supports end-user’s workflow.
• Interactive feature support’s the site information.

• There are minimal horizontal and vertical scrolling.

Make a design or layout of your proposed website. The
website will promote the best tourist destination in Oman.
Identify the major menus, submenus, images, videos that
are needed in your website.
Discuss the information that should be found in your
website.
