This session looks at how to set up Turnitin assignments via MOLE, enabling students to submit electronically. The session will also cover how to give feedback via the system.
3. First… A question for you:
What do you think Turnitin can do for you?
4. Turnitin facts:
1. Turnitin is a USA based software programme acquired
(June 2014) by Insight Venture Partner
2. Turnitin is a text matching and electronic assessment
tool licensed for use by the University since 2008
3. Most University departments use Turnitin through
MOLE
4. Turnitins’ text matching service trawls billions of web
pages, online journals, articles and publications
5. Why is Turnitin important?
‘Amongst students, there is very strong evidence to
suggest that not only is electronic assessment
management their preference, but that those who come
to appreciate its attendant benefits then begin to see
electronic assessment as their entitlement.
When this happens, paper submission is spoken of in
terms of a deficit and students report a range of problems
with it that they see electronic assessment as addressing.’

Electronic Assessment Management (June 2013)
