Particulate matter refers to tiny solid or liquid particles suspended in air such as dust, smoke, fog, and others. Dust consists of tiny particles of soil, sand, or other materials. Smoke is made up of small particles and liquid droplets emitted from combustion processes. Mist, fog, and fume are also forms of particulate matter consisting of tiny liquid or solid particles suspended in air.
