 Entrepreneurs: New ones just starting out, with some
experience, with lots of experience
 The Director of the Centre of Renewable Energy at UCY
 In addition we might have other visitors at some of the

Goal of this training
 Understand the UCY entrepreneur and innovation ecosystem.
 Understand how to set up a national technology transfer office.
 Understand how innovation in specific areas of research such as green and
medical technology can function.
 See first hand successful and innovating hi-tech Cyprus companies and
incubators
 Understand Sources of funding.
 Understand EU programmes (specially Horizon 2020).
 Understand how to build partnerships with European countries.

 What, who said it and how it can impact what you want
to achieve at your institution. (this will help you with
your assignments)
 Ask questions
 Your topic of interest might be best addressed through
specific questions.
 Discuss with your colleagues after class. Share ideas
and learn from each other

 “Translate” imagine how everything you are
learning can be applied to Jordan for your own
situation
 Meet and Network
 Seek out the people yourself and don’t wait to be
invited.
 Start working on your assignment from day 1. Work
a little bit every day.
Expectations from you
 You will actively participate in all sections.
 You will share and teach your colleagues here and back at your institution.
 Every day we start with each of you giving a short summary (~2 minutes) of
what you learned the previous day, what was some of the most important
lessons, what are some of the things you want to learn more about, what are
things that you to discuss or want to act upon as you build the CTI?..etc……).
 Those short summaries are best to be typed and at the end you turn all of them in
(maybe a page or so in the form of a small report). This will also help you later on
with your reports and subsequent training.

What plans do you have for your CTI center? Write an action plan
on how you plan to make this CTI center a reality
Talk about policies, events, agreements, competitions you plan to
lead and organize?
Where would you search for funding?
Where are the biggest opportunities for innovation?
Who would be your audience etc.
 EXPECTED: A short report and presentation to be given on the
last day of the training.

Overview  You will meet and hear from 13 speakers and presenters ranging from:  University Professors  Researchers in Entrepreneurship  Managers of incubators  Entrepreneurs: New ones just starting out, with some experience, with lots of experience  The Director of the Centre of Renewable Energy at UCY  In addition we might have other visitors at some of the events 03/28/17 3

Goal of this training  Understand the UCY entrepreneur and innovation ecosystem.  Understand how to set up a national technology transfer office.  Understand how innovation in specific areas of research such as green and medical technology can function.  See first hand successful and innovating hi-tech Cyprus companies and incubators  Understand Sources of funding.  Understand EU programmes (specially Horizon 2020).  Understand how to build partnerships with European countries. 03/28/17 5

  • 8. Make the most of your time here 03/28/17 8  Listen and keep good notes  What, who said it and how it can impact what you want to achieve at your institution. (this will help you with your assignments)  Ask questions  Your topic of interest might be best addressed through specific questions.  Discuss with your colleagues after class. Share ideas and learn from each other

Make the most of your time here 03/28/17 9  “Translate” imagine how everything you are learning can be applied to Jordan for your own situation  Meet and Network  Seek out the people yourself and don’t wait to be invited.  Start working on your assignment from day 1. Work a little bit every day.
  • 10. Expectations from you  You will actively participate in all sections.  You will share and teach your colleagues here and back at your institution.  Every day we start with each of you giving a short summary (~2 minutes) of what you learned the previous day, what was some of the most important lessons, what are some of the things you want to learn more about, what are things that you to discuss or want to act upon as you build the CTI?..etc……).  Those short summaries are best to be typed and at the end you turn all of them in (maybe a page or so in the form of a small report). This will also help you later on with your reports and subsequent training. 03/28/17 10
  • 11. Group Assignment to be presented End of Training How will you bring innovation and entrepreneurship in Jordan? What plans do you have for your CTI center? Write an action plan on how you plan to make this CTI center a reality Talk about policies, events, agreements, competitions you plan to lead and organize? Where would you search for funding? Where are the biggest opportunities for innovation? Who would be your audience etc.  EXPECTED: A short report and presentation to be given on the last day of the training. 03/28/17 11
