Switchgear regulates, protects, and isolates power systems using metal enclosures housing various controls. There are three main types: high, low, and medium voltage switchgear. The automated protective switchgear uses circuit breakers and relays, with relays detecting faults and triggering circuit breakers to disconnect faulty lines, maintaining a normal supply without damage. Switchgear components include fuses, switches, relays, isolators, circuit breakers, transformers, indicators, and lightning arresters.
