Tyisha Lewis introduces herself as a teacher at Azalea Middle School where she teaches 7th grade intensive math and 6th grade math. She has been teaching for 4 years and working in education for 10 years. While some want her to move into administration, she is pursuing a Master's in Education. She aims to decrease her paper usage in class by 50% and increase the use of technology to engage students more.

1. HELLO MY NAME IS
TYISHA LEWIS
I would like to start by saying
hello to all of my classmates
that I have been working with
for the past 2 years and nice
meeting you to the new
students joining our group.

2. AMS
I work at Azalea Middle School where I
teach 7th grade Intensive Math and Big
Ideas 6th grade. I’m also the
department head. I am completing my
third year at Azalea, my 4th year
teaching, my 10th year in education, and
12th year working with adolescents.

3. I’m still thinking about my future goals.
There are about 3 people trying to get
me to make the jump into
administration but I don’t think that’s
going to happen. I’m in the TLSI
program moving toward a Master’s in
Education.

4. I’m moving toward
decreasing my paper usage
in class by 50%. I also
notice that my kids are
engage more when
technology is utilized in class.
Although there are many software programs and websites we
use I want to become more knowledgeable and effective with
technology. I have attended some technology training sessions
over this school year but the
things I want to implement
require me to know more.

5. In my class I have been using Smart
Response clickers, an airliner and
recently I was able to add TI
Inspire/Navigator. I attended an Ipad
training but I have not used Ipads
with my class as much as I would like
to, due the limited amount we have
and the many teachers that are using
them.

6. TECHNOLOGY
Occasionally I use the
Smart board in the
media center but next
school year I will actually
be getting one for my
class.

In terms of the internet and
software I have used the sites
that go along with the
curriculum and additional
supplemental sites for
students to do extra
practice, basic skills
review, and FCAT practice.

8. I am a New Jersey native that earned
RU a B.S. in Public Health from Rutgers
University. I moved to Florida in
2004.
My sister and niece.
I like to cook, eat, shop, hang out
with my sister, friends, and nieces.
I have no children of my own, but
there are so many that have no
familial attachment that call me
mom and aunty.
