Org Design for Design Orgs - The WorkshopPeter Merholz
As the move to establish in-house design teams accelerates, it turns out there’s very little common wisdom on what makes for a successful design organization. Books and presentations focus on process, methods, tools, and outcomes, leaving a gap of knowledge when it comes to organizational and operational matters. This workshop seeks to address this lacuna by shining a light on the unsung activities of actually running a design team, and what works and what doesn’t.
Topics include:
- How a service design mindset shifts standard organizational approaches
- Organizational models for design teams, from centralized to decentralized and back again
- Breadth and depth of skills and strategic thinking
- The 5 Stages of Organisational Evolution
- A New Taxonomy of Design Team Roles

Presentation at Adaptive Path's UX Week 2012, wherein I attempt to articulate a professional definition for "UX Design" that is substantially different from the workflows-and-wireframes with which it is typically associated.
Plans Head of UX, Jason Mesut has also been doing his bit to quell the UX talent drought. There’s a startup product metaphor that bugs me. Your product is a rocket, and if your targeting at launch is 1% off — you miss the moon by 4,000 miles! The thing is products, rockets and targeting don’t work that way. I have resorted to a cartoon to explain. Are you riding the UX Strategy wave to maturity?Pradeep Nayar
s UX Strategy a buzz word or is it a real thing? Does it make sense for your organization? Does it matter? Is it role specific, something that a senior UX practitioner does or for the entire team? Are there some best practices? Where do I start?
Do you have all these questions about UX Strategy? We do. Join us as Pradeep sparks a conversation based on his thoughts, experience and ideas on where UX Strategy is today and where he thinks it's going.
UX Strategy is a term that has been around for quite a while but is often not really well understood or implemented in business. Some companies have dedicated UX teams while others have a single UX champion who is struggling to make sense or identify what UX means to their organisation. How can organisations start thinking about how to bake UX into how they work? This tutorial at UXPA 2015 in San Diego, CA, took a pragmatic look at deconstructing what UX and UX strategy means to organisations, and looked at a framework to provide practical strategies to help connect UX Strategy to Business Strategy with the aim of truly embedding user insights and user centered design into the culture of their organisations.

Surveying for Civil engineering is a
particular type of surveying known as "land surveying", it is the
detailed study or inspection, as by gathering information through
observations, measurements in the field, questionnaires, or
research of legal instruments, and data analysis in the support of
planning, designing, and establishing of property boundaries.
Land surveying can include associated services such as mapping
and related data accumulation, construction layout surveys,
precision measurements of length, angle, elevation, area, and
volume, as well as horizontal and vertical control surveys, and
the analysis and utilization of land survey data. Surveyors use
various tools to do their work successfully and accurately, such
as total stations, robotic total stations, GPS receivers, prisms, 3D
scanners, radio communicators, handheld tablets, digital levels,
and surveying software.
Survey data can be directly entered into a GIS from digital
data collection systems on survey instruments. When data is
captured, the user should consider if the data should be captured
with either a relative accuracy or absolute accuracy, since this
could not only influence how information will be interpreted but
also the cost of data captured.
In this paper GIS maps were developed depending on the
field surveying data made for a two traverses. First one has ribs
less than 50m length and the other larger than 50m. Each
traverse is holding five times using five equipments and
instruments: Tape, Level, Digital level, Digital theodolite and
Laser tape. Also those maps were drawn by using both of ACAD
and ArcView softwares. Then a detail surveying map was
produced. The precision was computed for both traverses in each
method. Its value is range from 1/140 to 1/10000.
An effective intranet design is one that is perceived as being of value by both employees and stakeholders. There is a significant amount of planning involved when designing an intranet experience no matter if it is a new build, redesign or new feature. It typically requires cross-department collaboration, management of a multidisciplinary team and implementation, marketing/communication and training plan.

Enterprises are behind many of the systems that run human life on our planet: government, healthcare, finance, big tech, you name it. Can we design them to be more useful for people, and more successful in creating a positive impact?
In this webinar, Milan will introduce you to Enterprise Design, an emerging practice aiming to do just that. It requires going beyond the typical scope of design for better products or services, and instead focusing on the enterprise itself as both the environment to reshape and our material to design with. Milan will take you the core ideas of Enterprise Design: an approach for connecting customer-centred product and service development with the architectural changes required to deliver. Combining ingredients of Architectural and Design Thinking with applied Systems Design, Enterprise Design provides a holistic and systemic approach to help you deal with the challenges of innovation and transformation at enterprise scale.

MIR Interview with Adam Froman, CEO of Delvinia and AskingCanadians™
Is the social media hype about being cool or about making money?
For Adam Froman, the answer is easy: Marketers need to be very clear about how social media activity supports overall business strategy. Only if the digital experience fi ts into the whole customer journey will consumers become engaged and add value to the company … and only then will the social brand become cool.
In this presentation, part of Multiplicity's ongoing speaker series about Launching and Growing: Your First 100 Customers, AskingCanadians Vice President Raj Manocha focuses on how insights can help companies better understand their customers and what’s important to them. The presentation highlights the role insights can play in innovation, cost effective ways for start-ups to collect insights and how research can make you a thought leader.
Getting Mileage Out of Your Dashboard: Confirmit Community Conference 2013Delvinia
Dashboards present an exciting and compelling proposition. But, dashboards alone are not the solution to harnessing Big Data. The trouble is, too many organizations make the mistake of taking a data or technology approach to dashboards.
In August 2012, AskingCanadians and Pelmorex Media, owners of The Weather Network, embarked on an exciting research initiative to see if they could harness multi-platform, multi-source data to create a user-centric dashboard that would provide a single Brand Health Index designed to enable decision makers at The Weather Network to make better business decisions.
In a presentation at the 2013 Confirmit Community Conference in Las Vegas, Adam Froman, CEO of Delvinia & AskingCanadians, and Carol Pilas, Director, Market Research for Pelmorex Media, shared the learnings from this project—built using Confirmit as a key data collection component¬¬—and their journey of harnessing the power of Big Data.

The Future of Respondent Engagement: Motivating Respondents to Participate in...Delvinia
While digital technologies have fundamentally changed the way companies can capture the voice of the customer, the challenge is to understand the underlying motivation for consumers to participate in market research in the digital age. Given this changing environment, Delvinia wanted to understand how to motivate Canadians to share their opinions. We partnered with Ryerson University and secured funding from the Canadian Federal Economic Development Agency to undertake a study using AskingCanadians, our proprietary online research community, to fundamentally understand the motivational drivers to engage consumers to participate in research. Delvinia CEO Adam Froman worked with Dr. Mary Foster, Professor of Marketing at the Ted Rogers School of Management, to look at why people participate in market research from the participant’s perspective. In this presentation, Adam shares the findings of this groundbreaking research and examples of how this knowledge can be applied to increase participation rates.

• Four (4) workplace discipline methods you should consider
• The best and most practical approach to implementing workplace discipline.
• Three (3) key tips to maintain a disciplined workplace.

A personal brand exploration presentation summarizes an individual's unique qualities and goals, covering strengths, values, passions, and target audience. It helps individuals understand what makes them stand out, their desired image, and how they aim to achieve it.
Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Editor's Notes
The more you involve employees throughout the process the greater the buy-in and likelihood you’ll design a solution that meets needs. Opportunities exist in Phase 2, 3 and 4 to work in much closer cycles with the multi-dimensional team. Although an Agile development approach may not work for your project the idea of focusing the team's attention on specific items (features, interaction, look and feel) in short increments of time is ideal as it leaves less room for going down the wrong path and increases ownership.
Information architecture is the science of organizing, ordering, categorizing and labeling information. Its purpose is to make your website easier to use and easier to find the information your visitors are looking for. If you have high quality content, then incorporating information architecture will maximize its effectiveness.
Walmart listened to what their employees said they wanted - place where they could interact with one another. Rather than build a traditional site focusing on corporate information, they build al social networking intranet that would convey corporate information while allowing and encouraging associates to build relationships, connect around shared passions, and share information with one another.
Moved beyond just browser platforms to include kiosks, tablets, mobile. Mobile is only now starting to become more prominent in 10 Best Intranets. Platform usage should ALWAYS be driven by user needs – e.g. employees on the road or in remote locations are suited to mobile platform. For mobile, recommendation is to design a separate experience – a mini-version of full website with key content and applications. Mobile requires consideration of approach: platform specific (e.g. iphone) which is a native smartphone application cross-platform which is tailored version of the standard web application and works across all smartphones – less rich experience compared to native smartphone application.
