In this presentation, Prashant introduces the concept of IoT and associated trends. His interest lies in application of IoT to manage excessive data traffic on internet.

2. The Internet of Things is the network of devices
or “things” embedded with electronics, software,
sensors and connectivity to enable it to achieve
greater value and service by exchanging data with
the manufacturer, operator or connected devices.
Each device is uniquely identifiable through its
embedded computing system and is able to
interoperate within the existing internet
infrastructure.
3. Internet of Things is going to be the next wave in the
field of technology. I can say this after visualizing the
world after a decade where all most every thing will be
connected to the internet which would influence both
economical and societal perspective. Things which are
going to be connected to the internet may vary from
things in your home like TV or AC or security camera,
to things in the industries, to cars and trains and
wearable devices. I believe even with the challenges of
security and privacy IoT will be transformational
change over the next decade.
4. According to me connecting Smart Grid to the Internet will
cause the biggest impact.
Connecting Smart Grid to the Internet is definitely going to be
the most effective. This will optimize energy consumption as a
whole. It is expected that IoT devices will be integrated into all
forms of energy consuming devices (switches, power outlets,
bulbs, televisions, etc.) and be able to communicate with the
utility supply company in order to effectively balance power
generation and energy usage. Such devices would also offer the
opportunity for users to remotely control their devices, or
centrally manage them via a cloud based interface, and enable
advanced functions like scheduling (e.g., remotely powering on
or off heating systems, controlling ovens, changing lighting
conditions etc.). This will bring a great difference to countries
like India where electricity is one of the major problem.
5. This will be a great opportunity working on a project
related to IoT since contributing to such project will be
the most interesting knowing the fact that it is going
to change the world.
My area of interest in this topic: there would be heavy
traffic of data on internet after connecting smart grid
and energy consuming devices to the internet . Now
these data must be used by the smart grid, user and
also the manufa which is going to be an interesting
task. We must to use these data efficiently to maximise
automation.
