International Trade Theories
This document discusses several theories of international trade. It begins by defining international trade as the exchange of capital, goods, and services across borders. It then explains that the main purposes of trade theories are to explain observed trade patterns, understand the effects of trade on domestic economies, and evaluate policy. The major theories discussed include absolute advantage, comparative advantage, product life cycle theory, and theories related to country size, factor proportions, and country similarity. Limitations and relationships between theories are also examined.

International economics deals with the economic relations among nations. The resulting interdependence is very important to the economic well-being of most nations of the world and is on the increase. The economic relations among nations differ from the economic relations among the various part of a nation. This gives rise to different problems, requiring somewhat different tools of analysis, and justifies International Economics as a distinct and separate branch of โAppliedโ Economics.
International economics deals with
1) The Pure Theory of Trade. This examines the basis for trade and the gains from trade.
2) The Theory of Commercial Policy. This studies the reasons for and the results of obstructions to the free flow of trade.
3) The Balance of Payments. This examines a nationโs total payments to and total receipts from the rest of the world. These involve the exchange of one currency with others.
4) Adjustment in the Balance of Payments. This deals with the mechanism of adjustment to balance of payments disequilibria under different international monetary systems.
The world may continue to shrink in light of advanced technology, higher demands from markets and faster turnaround times, globalization has become a staple for world commerce and international business.

To better understand how modern global trade has evolved, itโs important to understand how countries traded with one another historically. Over time, economists have developed theories to explain the mechanisms of global trade.
The main historical theories are called classical and are from the perspective of a country, or country-based.

A Memorandum of Association (MOA) is a legal document that outlines the fundamental principles and objectives upon which a company operates. It serves as the company's charter or constitution and defines the scope of its activities. Here's a detailed note on the MOA:
Contents of Memorandum of Association:
Name Clause: This clause states the name of the company, which should end with words like "Limited" or "Ltd." for a public limited company and "Private Limited" or "Pvt. Ltd." for a private limited company.
https://seribangash.com/article-of-association-is-legal-doc-of-company/
Registered Office Clause: It specifies the location where the company's registered office is situated. This office is where all official communications and notices are sent.
Objective Clause: This clause delineates the main objectives for which the company is formed. It's important to define these objectives clearly, as the company cannot undertake activities beyond those mentioned in this clause.
www.seribangash.com
Liability Clause: It outlines the extent of liability of the company's members. In the case of companies limited by shares, the liability of members is limited to the amount unpaid on their shares. For companies limited by guarantee, members' liability is limited to the amount they undertake to contribute if the company is wound up.

Capital Clause: This clause specifies the authorized capital of the company, i.e., the maximum amount of share capital the company is authorized to issue. It also mentions the division of this capital into shares and their respective nominal value.
Association Clause: It simply states that the subscribers wish to form a company and agree to become members of it, in accordance with the terms of the MOA.
Importance of Memorandum of Association:
Legal Requirement: The MOA is a legal requirement for the formation of a company. It must be filed with the Registrar of Companies during the incorporation process.
Constitutional Document: It serves as the company's constitutional document, defining its scope, powers, and limitations.
Protection of Members: It protects the interests of the company's members by clearly defining the objectives and limiting their liability.
External Communication: It provides clarity to external parties, such as investors, creditors, and regulatory authorities, regarding the company's objectives and powers.
https://seribangash.com/difference-public-and-private-company-law/
Binding Authority: The company and its members are bound by the provisions of the MOA. Any action taken beyond its scope may be considered ultra vires (beyond the powers) of the company and therefore void.
Amendment of MOA:
While the MOA lays down the company's fundamental principles, it is not entirely immutable. It can be amended, but only under specific circumstances and in compliance with legal procedures. Amendments typically require shareholder

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
ย
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

2. What is international trade?
โข International trade is the exchange of capital,
goods, and services across international
borders or territories.
โข Trade mainly have two components EXPORTS
and IMPORTS.
3. Why trade theories?
๏ต The first purpose of trade theory is to explain observed
trade. That is, we would like to be able to start with
information about the characteristics of trading
countries, and from those characteristics deduce what
they actually trade, and be right. Thatโs why we have
a variety of models that postulate different kinds of
characteristics as the reasons for trade.
๏ต Secondly, to know about the effects of trade on the
domestic economy.
๏ต A third purpose is to evaluate different kinds of policy.
4. Types of trade theories
๏ต Interventionist
Mercantilism
Neo mercantilism
๏ต Free- trade theories
Theory of Absolute advantage
Comparative Advantage
5. Theory of trade patterns
๏ถ Porter Diamond theory
๏ถ Specialization theory
๏ถ Theory of country Size
๏ถ Factor proportion theory
๏ถ Country similarity theory
7. Mercantilist Theory
Mercantilist theory proposed that a country
should try to achieve a favorable balance of trade
(export more than it imports)
Mercantilism was at its height in the 17th and
18th centuries. The term Merchantilism was
coined by the Marquis de Mirabeau in 1763, and
was popularised by Adam Smith in 1776.
Neomercantilist policy also seeks a favorable
balance of trade, but its purpose is to achieve
some social or political objective
8. Mercantilism: mid-16th century
๏ฎ A nationโs wealth depends on accumulated
treasure
๏ฎ Gold and silver are the currency of
trade
๏ฎ Theory says you should have a trade surplus.
๏ฎ Maximize export through subsidies.
๏ฎ Minimize imports through tariffs and quotas
๏ฎ Flaw: restrictions, impaired growth
9. Theory of Absolute Advantage
๏ต Suggests specialization through free trade
because consumers will be better off if they can
buy foreign-made products that are priced more
cheaply than domestic ones
๏ต A country may produce goods more efficiently
because of a natural advantage or because of an
acquired advantage
10. ๏ฎ Adam Smith: Wealth of Nations (1776) argued:
๏ฎ Capability of one country to produce more of a
product with the same amount of input than another
country
๏ฎ A country should produce only goods where it is most
efficient, and trade for those goods where it is not
efficient
๏ฎ Trade between countries is, therefore, beneficial
๏ฎ Assumes there is an absolute balance among nations
11. Theory of Comparative Advantage
๏ต Also proposes specialization through free trade
because it says that total global output can
increase even if one country has an absolute
advantage in the production of all products
13. Product Life Cycle (PLC) Theory
I. Companies will manufacture products first in
the countries in which they were researched
and developed, almost always developed
countries
II. Over the productโs life cycle, production will
shift to foreign locations, especially to
developing economies as the product reaches
the stages of maturity and decline
15. The Porter Diamond theory
Four conditions as important for competitive
superiority:
1) demand conditions
2) factor conditions
3) related and supporting industries
4) firm strategy, structure, and rivalry
16.
17. Limitations of the Porter Diamond
Theory
๏ง Capital and labor move internationally to gain
more income and flee adverse political situations
๏ง Although international mobility of production
factors may be a substitute for trade, the mobility
may stimulate trade through sales of
components, equipment, and complementary
products
18.
19. Trade Pattern Theories
๏ต How much a country will depend on trade if it
follows a free trade policy
๏ต What types of products countries will export and
import
๏ต With which partners countries will primarily trade
20. Theory Of Country Size
๏ฑ Countries with large land areas are apt to have
varied climates and natural resources.
๏ฑ They are generally more self-sufficient than
smaller countries.
๏ฑ Large countriesโ production and market centers
are more likely to be located at a greater distance
from other countries, raising the transport costs
of foreign trade
21. Factor-Proportions Theory
๏ A countryโs relative endowments of land, labor,
and capital will determine the relative costs of
these factors
๏ Factor costs will determine which goods the
country can produce most efficiently
23. Country-similarity Theory
๏ถ Most trade today occurs among high-income
countries because they share similar market
segments and because they produce and
consume so much more than emerging
economies
๏ถ Much of the pattern of two-way trading partners
may be explained by cultural similarity between
the countries, political and economic agreements,
and by the distance between them
24. The Relationship between Trade and
Factor Mobility
๏ผ Capital and labor move internationally to gain more
income and flee adverse political situations
๏ผ Although international mobility of production factors
may be a substitute for trade, the mobility may stimulate
trade through sales of components, equipment, and
complementary products
