The document discusses country similarity theory, which was developed by Swedish economist Steffan Linder. According to Linder, intra-industry trade occurs between countries with similar levels of economic development because they have similar consumer preferences. The theory suggests that companies first develop new products for their domestic market and then export those products to countries at a similar economic level once domestic demand is met. Location, culture, and political/economic interests can also influence trade between countries with similarities in these areas.
International trade is the exchange of capital, goods, and services across international borders or territories.
international trade has existed throughout history (for example Uttarapatha, Silk Road, Amber Road, salt roads), its economic, social, and political importance has been on the rise in recent centuries.
To understand the pattern in international trade, Different trade theories are postulated. Some famous trade theories are:
Mercantilism
Absolute Advantage Theory
Comparative Advantage Theory
Hecksher-Ohlin Factor endowment theory
Product Life Cycle Theory
New Trade Theory
Porter’s Diamond Theory for competitive advantage
Restrictions on imports – tariff barriers, quotas or non-tariff barriers.
Accumulation of foreign currency reserves and gold and silver reserves. (known also as bullionism)
Granting of state monopolies to particular firms especially those associated with trade and shipping.
Subsidies of export industries to give competitive advantage in global markets.
Government investment in research and development to maximize efficiency and capacity of domestic industry.
Allowing copyright / intellectual theft from foreign companies.
Limiting wages and consumption of the working classes to enable greater profits to stay with the merchant class.
Control of colonies, e.g. making colonies buy from Empire country and taking control of colonies wealth.
England Navigation Act of 1651 prohibited foreign vessels engaging in coastal trade.
All colonial exports to Europe had to pass through English first and be re-exported to Europe.
Under British Empire, India restricted in buying from domestic industries and were forced to import salt from the UK. Protests against this salt tax, led to ‘Salt tax’ revolt led by Gandhi.
In seventeenth Century France, the state promoted a controlled economy, with strict regulations about the economy and labour markets
In the modern world, mercantilism is sometimes associated with policies, such as.
Undervaluation of currency e.g. government buying foreign currency assets to keep the exchange rate undervalued and make exports more competitive.
Government subsidy of industry for unfair advantage. China has been accused of offering too much subsidised investment for industry, leading to over supply of industries such as steel – meaning other countries struggle to compete.
Surge of protectionist sentiment, e.g. tariffs on imports.

To better understand how modern global trade has evolved, it’s important to understand how countries traded with one another historically. Over time, economists have developed theories to explain the mechanisms of global trade.
The main historical theories are called classical and are from the perspective of a country, or country-based.

2 Previous Business Review articles have
questioned the extent to which globalization
has taken place. The article by Janet Ceglowski
reviews research on barriers to international
trade. Examining another dimension of
globalization, Sylvain Leduc explores the lack
of international diversification of investment
portfolios.
3 They estimate an overall average increase
of 74 percent in the prices of goods in these
countries.
Globalization has many facets.
One of the most important is the enor-
mous increase in international trade.
Over the past 40 years, world exports
as a share of output have doubled to
almost 25 percent of world output.1
However, despite globalization and
the increasing share of output that is
exported and imported internationally,
economic evidence suggests that sig-
nificant barriers to international trade
still exist.2 We will summarize the lat-
est developments in the measurement
of international trade barriers, drawing
mainly from a recent comprehensive
survey on the subject by James Ander-
son and Eric van Wincoop. In their
lobalization has led to an enormous increase
in international trade. Over the past 40
years, world exports as a share of output have
doubled to almost 25 percent of world output.
However, despite this enormous increase, economic
evidence suggests that significant barriers to international
trade still exist. In this article, Edith Ostapik and Kei-Mu
Yi summarize the latest developments in the measurement
of international trade barriers.
survey, these authors report estimates
of the magnitudes of different catego-
ries of international trade costs. They
find that, on average, international
trade costs almost double the price of
goods in developed countries.3
The primary policy implication of
the existing research is that globaliza-
tion still has a long way to go, so that
there is still plenty of room for trade
to grow. Growth in trade will likely
occur primarily through technological
changes that reduce transportation or
communication costs or from long-
run policy choices, such as a national
currency or language. Reduction in
policy-related barriers, such as tariffs,
will also play a role.

USDA Loans in California: A Comprehensive Overview.pptxmarketing367770
USDA Loans in California: A Comprehensive Overview
If you're dreaming of owning a home in California's rural or suburban areas, a USDA loan might be the perfect solution. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) offers these loans to help low-to-moderate-income individuals and families achieve homeownership.
Key Features of USDA Loans:
Zero Down Payment: USDA loans require no down payment, making homeownership more accessible.
Competitive Interest Rates: These loans often come with lower interest rates compared to conventional loans.
Flexible Credit Requirements: USDA loans have more lenient credit score requirements, helping those with less-than-perfect credit.
Guaranteed Loan Program: The USDA guarantees a portion of the loan, reducing risk for lenders and expanding borrowing options.
Eligibility Criteria:
Location: The property must be located in a USDA-designated rural or suburban area. Many areas in California qualify.
Income Limits: Applicants must meet income guidelines, which vary by region and household size.
Primary Residence: The home must be used as the borrower's primary residence.
Application Process:
Find a USDA-Approved Lender: Not all lenders offer USDA loans, so it's essential to choose one approved by the USDA.
Pre-Qualification: Determine your eligibility and the amount you can borrow.
Property Search: Look for properties in eligible rural or suburban areas.
Loan Application: Submit your application, including financial and personal information.
Processing and Approval: The lender and USDA will review your application. If approved, you can proceed to closing.
USDA loans are an excellent option for those looking to buy a home in California's rural and suburban areas. With no down payment and flexible requirements, these loans make homeownership more attainable for many families. Explore your eligibility today and take the first step toward owning your dream home.

Resume
• Real GDP growth slowed down due to problems with access to electricity caused by the destruction of manoeuvrable electricity generation by Russian drones and missiles.
• Exports and imports continued growing due to better logistics through the Ukrainian sea corridor and road. Polish farmers and drivers stopped blocking borders at the end of April.
• In April, both the Tax and Customs Services over-executed the revenue plan. Moreover, the NBU transferred twice the planned profit to the budget.
• The European side approved the Ukraine Plan, which the government adopted to determine indicators for the Ukraine Facility. That approval will allow Ukraine to receive a EUR 1.9 bn loan from the EU in May. At the same time, the EU provided Ukraine with a EUR 1.5 bn loan in April, as the government fulfilled five indicators under the Ukraine Plan.
• The USA has finally approved an aid package for Ukraine, which includes USD 7.8 bn of budget support; however, the conditions and timing of the assistance are still unknown.
• As in March, annual consumer inflation amounted to 3.2% yoy in April.
• At the April monetary policy meeting, the NBU again reduced the key policy rate from 14.5% to 13.5% per annum.
• Over the past four weeks, the hryvnia exchange rate has stabilized in the UAH 39-40 per USD range.

2. Country similarity theory was developed by a Swedish economist named Steffan
Linder.
This theory suggests that intra-industry trade takes place between the countries
with similar levels of development.
According this theory, the companies that develop new products for the
domestic market, export the products to those countries that are at similar level
of development after meeting the needs of the domestic market.
According to Linder, the similarities in consumer preferences in the countries that
are at the same economic development provide the scope for intra-industry
trade among countries. example India and China
3. Basis for trade among countries
Similarity of location
Cultural similarity
similarity of political and economic interests
4. SIMILARITY OF LOCATION:
Countries prefer to export to the neighbouring countries in order to have the
advantages of less transportation cost. For example, Finland is a major
exporter to Russia due to less transportation costs.
CUTLURAL SIMILARITIES:
Countries prefer to export to those countries having similar culture. For
example, exports and imports among European countries, between USA and
Canada, among the Asian countries, and among the Islamic countries.
5. SIMILARITY OF POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC INTERESTS:
Similar political interests close political relations and economic
interests enable the countries to enter into agreements for exports
and imports. Countries prefer to trade with their politically friendly
countries. For example, India used to export to the former USSR. The
enemity of the USA with Cuba resulted in the USA importing of sugar from
Mexico by abandoning sugar import from Cuba.
6. CONCLUSION
Steffan Linder believed that international trade of manufactured goods
occurred between countries at the same stage of economic development that
shared the same consumer preferences. Therefore the country similarity
theory consists of the value that most trade in manufactured goods should be
between nations with similar per capita income, and that intra industry trade
in manufactured goods should be common.
