Year-Round Schooling Argumentative Analysis
As of 2014, over 3000 schools in the United States are year round. Instead of having one longer
summer break, these schools take several shorter breaks throughout the year (Scholastic 15). With
so many advantages and very few disadvantages of year round schooling, it is not surprising that
these schools chose to exchange their excessively long summerbreaks for shorter, more frequent
breaks. Not only can year round schooling improve the academic performance of students, but it
can also economically benefit all aspects of society. Schools should adopt a year round calendar,
causing one to question the perils of year round schooling. Year round schooling promotes the
academic achievement of students. Synonymous to popular belief, year round... Show more content

Alcoholics Anonymous Analysis
Alcoholics Anonymous was founded in 1935 in Akron Ohio by Dr.Bob and Bill. They created
this organization because they were alcoholics trying to get over their addiction at the time, they
wanted to expand this group to help out even more people. How this organization started to take
off and expand farther than Akron Ohio is, the two men Dr.Bob and Bill went to the hospital in
Akron Ohio to help the alcoholics in the hospital. This man that they helped in the hospital helped
the two men start the first AA group, later on the idea spread to New York which started the
second group, a third group started in Cleveland, within these three founding groups it took over
four years to produce 100 sober people out of the three groups together. During

Comparing Langston Hughes And Robert Hayden
The survival of the Black American family is a revolutionary act. The system of slavery
purposefully separated and destroyed black families. Yet, in the face of obstacles, the Black
family as an institution survived. Langston Hughes and Robert Hayden show the power of
connection, love, and learning between the Black parent and the Black child. Many Black poets
write about the Black experience in America, but few capture the interactions between Black
parent and Black child the way Langston Hughes and Robert Hayden do in their poems Mother to
Son and Those Winter Sundays , respectively. Langston Hughes and Robert Hayden use metaphors
and imagery to portray the lessons Black children learn from Black parents. Being a parent is hard
work. Unfortunately,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mother in Hughes poem says, So boy, don t you turn back./ Don t you set down on the steps
/ Cause you finds it s kinder hard./ Don t you fall now / For I se still goin , honey,/ I se still
climbin ,/ And life for me ain t been no crystal stair (901). The mother is teaching her son a
lesson in determination and resilience. She wants him to understand two axioms: 1) no matter
how unbearable life becomes, giving up is not an option, and 2) if she can persevere through
tough times, then so can he. On the contrary, the narrator in Hayden s poem realizes the lesson
in a moment of reflection. Hayden writes, What did I know, what did I know/ of love s austere
and lonely offices (1047)? In these lines the child is asking a question, but really stating that he
did not recognize as a child how his dad showed love for his family and he did not realize how
lonely his dad must have felt. By using the passive voice in the word did the narrator lets the
reader know that he did not understand back then but now he does. The narrator learns that a
parent s love is an action of self sacrifice, especially on those winter

Spin In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried
... But the thing about remembering is that you don t forget... (O Brien, 33). This quote from the
chapter Spin in the book The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, brings together what this
platoon, Alpha Company, of young adults would never forget about what they will go through in
the Vietnam War. War comes death
, sacrifice, and broken minds at the end.
The death of Ted Lavender was a shifting point for the the platoonand its Lieutenant Jimmy
Cross.
Ted Lavender was a scared young adult who was the first one from the platoon to meet death.
Before he had passed away in order to calm his nerves ...Ted Lavender carried 6 or 7 ounces of

There were pictures of Rat Kiley and Kiowa and Mitchell Sanders, all of us, the faces incredibly
soft and young. At one point, I remember, we paused over a snapshot of Ted Lavender, and after
a while Jimmy rubbed his eyes and said he d never forgiven himself for Lavender s death. It was
something that would never go away... (O Brien, 26) Out of hundreds of photos they both focused
on Ted Lavender and hit a soft spot for both of them. They related and were able to get in touch
with those emotions even after many years passing.
Although after Ted Lavender, there were many more soldiers the platoon had seen pass away. But
even after all that time Ted Lavender is still relevant throughout the book. He had made an impact
considering that his only role in the platoons life was that he was the first death they had seen that
was one of them. Tim O Brien tells the story all over again as he did in the beginning of the book.
Which should make the audience realize that although we did not know much about Ted Lavender
he was a turning point of reality for the platoon. ... I remember squatting down, not wanting to look
but then looking. Lavender s left cheek was gone.

1.2Benefits
As quoted directly from the website (How to teach mind mapping and how to make a mind map) the
authors have listed the following as key benefits when using Mind mapping in the educational
environment.
Mind mapping can
Help students brainstorm and explore any idea, concept, or problem
Facilitate better understanding of relationships and connections between ideas and concepts
Make it easy to communicate new ideas and thought processes
Allow students to easily recall information
Help students take notes and plan tasks
Make it easy to organize ideas and concepts
David Kelly who is the founder of IDEO explains that mind maps allow him to associate freely and
that it is an excellent tool to prompt you to ask questions, exposing relationships between
previously unforseen concepts (Kelley 2006).
Quoted directly from (Kelley 2006) David also goes on to say, The cool thing is that you allow
yourself to follow your inner thoughts, which is different than making a list where you are trying to
be complete and deal with data.

Introducing Lean Concepts in a Manufacturing Company
Your organization, a company that manufactures automobile brake pads, is about to introduce
lean concepts into its operations in order to be more competitive with foreign manufacturers.
The lean project manager does not understand why you, the safety manager, want to be a part of
the process. Provide a convincing argument about what you can contribute if you are included.
Lean manufacturing is based upon the philosophy that zero waste is a legitimate goal for an
organization. Lean manufacturing is based on finding efficiencies and removing wasteful steps
that don t add value to the end product (Lean manufacturing, 2012, Mind Tools). Defects are bad
for customers in the sense that customers receive an unwanted, defective product but also bad for
businesses that must eat the cost of the defective product, as well as suffer a blow to their
reputations. This is particularly true for a safety related item such as a brake pad. Waste in terms
of unneeded expenditures will make the product more expensive, taking away value from the
company in terms of profits and also making consumers less likely to buy a costly item. Waste can
occur in a number of areas, including overproduction; delays; inventory buildups; over processing;
inefficiencies in the human aspects of in manufacturing; product defects; and inefficient allocations
of labor (Lean manufacturing, 2012, Mind Tools). A sales manager such as myself can play a
critical role in identifying waste. First and foremost, I am

Routine Child Immunization
The importance of knowledge or awareness and not aware of the needs of vaccination is the main
reason for children not being fully immunized. Inadequacy of community participation was also an
important factor for poor coverage. Therefore keeping every factor in mind the present study has
been carried out with the objectives of assessing the knowledge of routine child immunization
among care givers of 12 to 23 months old children, finding out the coverage of all the vaccines
among the recipients and also to identify the practice of routine immunization.
In the present study, 52.85% males and 47.15% females were there. The results are quite similar to

The Copperplate typeface is a typeface that all designers in the industry should learn and know
about. At first glance the Copperplate typeface seems very common but if you look at it in depth
you can see its many interesting characteristics. Back in the day this typeface was not so used as
it is today, now we can see it representing many businesses and people are using it more and more.
For various reasons some people like or dislike the Copperplate typeface. With more detailed
information about this typeface that will be discussed in this essay you will be able to make your

A Linotype is a machine that was used back in the day to produce lines of words as single strips
of metal and it was mainly used for newspapers. The Copperplate typeface has many elements
from different sources. For example, the typeface has a resemblance to stone carvings, lapidary
engravings and classic roman typefaces. Frederic W. Goudy named this typeface Copperplate
because from 1530 up to the 19th century copperplate engraving was a very popular technique
to create illustrated material. Copperplate engraving consists of engraving or etching some type
of design into a plate made of copper. He meant this typeface to be used by Linotype machines
for the production of newspapers and many other types of printing and so it has AB and BC
designations to help distinguish the difference between the capital letters and the small caps. It
also has a numbering system that tells us the difference in weight and width of the typeface. The
Copperplate typeface was first released by Goudy as a font family which contained many
weights and variations. It was designed in all caps and small caps because it was meant to be
used for headlines and header design, also for stationary and society printing. Copperplate typeface
imitates lapidary inscriptions, this is why it is categorized as a glyphic typeface. Another
characteristic of glyphic typefaces is that the contrast of the stroke weight in a character is
minimum and we can observe this in all the

What Is Language Devoid Of The Social Context Of Its...
To make language devoid of the social context of its creation and use is to dislocate it from which
it derives its meanings. Thus ridding it of its use with the only benefit of understanding what it is
made up of. However, understanding what language is made of and understanding how to use it are
two different things, neither of which will give you a complete understanding of languageon its
own. Using Gardner s analogy of language being like a fish you dissect as well as observe within
its habitat, to view language as devoid of its social context is to remove the fish from the ocean, the
environment in which is serves its purpose. In order to understand what forms it, however, removal
and dissection is necessary. Unfortunately, neither... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An opposing argument would be that one s thoughts aren t necessarily used to communicate and
yet they still use language. People talk like others and still each of us has our own unique style
(Bakhtin, as cited in Gee and Hayes 2011, pg. 7). Our immediate surroundings in the early stages
of development shape the language we learn to speak first. Looking at Darwin s theory of
evolution (1859, cited in O Neil 2013, para. 20) and how the finches from the Galapagos Islands
were all divergences of their ancestral species, the language which we develop from our social and
cultural backgrounds evolves (obviously in a much faster process than that of the finches). This is
the way language changes and yet remains the same.
After studying language development in children, Michael Halliday identified seven functions it
had for them. The first four help satisfy physical need and the last three help them understand the
environment.
Language is a communal resource from which we all beg borrow and steal (Gee and Hayes,
2011, pg. 7). It has also been suggested by Gee and Hayes (2011) that it would be highly likely
that all human language developed from one original language. We can see a similar idea in Minna
Sundberg s illustration of the Old World Language Families tree, where Indo European branched off
to European, which then branched off to Germanic, West Germanic, Anglo Frisian and finally
English. Even in the book of Genesis it is written that the whole word had

People Across The Nation By Fred Astaire
Throughout time there has been a constant ebb and flow of civilizations developing, imploding or
being actively destroyed by stronger societies. From the Renaissance to the World Wars, the
existence of the human race has never been a question. Even through times of despair and
prosperity, the human race has persisted and even advanced itself. Improvements in technology,
medicine, education, and communication have increased the life capacity, expectancy, and
satisfaction of people every day. However, even with these well intentioned efforts to improve the
humanrace, ultimately our humanity has been adversely affected. Instead, we are now driven by a
selfish desire to advance our personal agendas and achieve celebrity status. These misguided
behaviors have become the new norm .
Fred Astaire sums this surrender of compassion into one amazing quote: The hardest job kids face
today is learning good manners without seeing any. Even though Astaire s statement contradicts the
beliefs of many people across the nation, it shows insight into the true problem. Positive social
interactions are no longer a normalized aspect of human life. While the vanishing of respect for one
another has hit the mainstream more recently; the issue has been around for multiple centuries.
This pattern and its consequences had already drawn the attention of European and American
observers by the early 19th century (Fass 85). Yet, we have not tried to fix the issue, but only
allowed the bad behavior

Cellular Respiration Of Yeast Lab Report
Abstract:
This experiment is to examine, analyze and investigate the affects of pollutants on a simple
organism (yeast) and how the pollutants modify a simple organisms (yeast) rate to carry out
cellular respiration. Cellular respiration is an organism s ability to convert nutrients into energy

Public law is the relationship between the government and its constituents. The Court has been a
key player in ensuring the majority rule, the Framers envisioned. The Court is not only an officer

Lisa The Iconoclast And The Simpsons
The short story An Enemy of the People and the Simpsons episode Lisa the Iconoclast both deal
with themes of obtaining new information and deciding whether to then release that information in
the best interests of the public based on consequences that do not only impact themselves but those
important to them. In An Enemy of the People , Dr. Stockmann has discovered information
regarding the town s public baths, that the water has been contaminated and any future use of the
facilities could lead to severe illness. In Lisa the Iconoclast , during Springfield s bicentennial
celebrations, Lisa Simpsondiscovers that the town founder, Jebediah Springfield is really Hans
Sprungfeld, a murderous pirate who had tried to kill George Washington. In both stories there are
also consequences for the Stockmann and Simpson families. Though there are ultimately major
differences as to the conclusion of each of the stories regarding their decision to withhold or release
the information based on the public opinion. One of the most important themes that both these
stories share is the existence of knowledge that the protagonists believe is important to share for the
good of the community. For Dr. Stockmann it is the baths and their contamination, for Lisa
Simpsons it is the true identity of Springfield s founder. Dr. Stockmann learns about this new
information, after sending away a sample of the town s water to a major university. When the

The Pearl Greed
The novella The Pearl by John Steinbeck follows the story of a pearl, the hope, and evil that it
carries which consumes Kino and the city of La Paz. in this story we are going to witness the
decision Kino make and how that drastically affects his life. Thus, throughout five paragraphs, I am
going to be talking about the tragedy of Kino and his family, but most importantly who or what is
responsible.
I argue that greed, culture, anger, happiness, luck, death, and evil are all significant aspects of this
book, which influenced everyone in the story at one point which includes them in the responsibility
of the tragedy that Kino and his family faced.

Examples Of Archetypes In The Great Gatsby
Review: A young lion prince is born in Africa, thus making his uncle Scar the second in line to
the throne. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, thus making himself
King. The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the
kingdom in shame.
In the movie The Lion King, there are many different types of archetypes shown in many ways.
The archetypal pattern that is shown in the movie is end of childhood/loss of innocence. This
pattern is about the tragedy of growing up. This is demonstrated in the movie by the loss that Simba
experiences with his father. This would be recognized as an individual loss of innocence, because
Simba had to learn how to cope with the death of his father. In the movie, Simba would be
classified as the hero. A hero is usually the central characterwith courageous qualities, that must
undertake a difficult task. That is exactly what Simba does, he demonstrates this by stopping the

As the only rescue in the area, the BCHR works to save horses not only from Bergen County, but
from as far away as Pennsylvania. They rescue horses that have been abused or are headed for
auction or slaughter and then try to find new homes for as many as possible.
The fact that horse slaughter is illegal in the United States doesn t stop the cruel process from
taking place. According to the ASPCA, 150,000 horses are transported over the borders to
Mexico and Canada each year to be slaughtered for human consumption. People need to learn
about the need for horse rescues and the abuse that goes on in the horse community with
slaughtering and horse neglect, Danielle said. Not to say that it s more or less important than a
dog rescue, but if these horses do go to slaughter it s a brutal, brutal process that people aren t
really aware of. However, amidst all the political controversies, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have
introduced a bill that would permanently ban horse slaughter and the exportation of horses for that
purpose the ASPCA reported in early January 2016. The bill has received bipartisan support, but it
doesn t seem to currently be the top priority in Congress. Until then, it s up to places like BCHR

Preserving The Good Within Ourselves
Preserving the Good within Ourselves: Fiction Superhero shows and movies have become
incredibly popular over the last decade. Whether you re an adult or a child, the variety of
superhero shows and movies appeal to all ages and have become an obsessive source of
entertainment. With new technology, superheroes and villains that were once pages in a comic
book have come to life in ways the older generation of fans would never have imagined. Ever since
Christopher Reeve played Supermanin 1978, three sequels and many more remakes followed suit
(Yueh). Ever since the original X men film was released in 2000; half a dozen new movies have
been released every year since which totals to about 61 movies (Yueh). The Avengers along with
four other films grossed more than 1 billion dollars in the box office, making movie history. What
makes superheroes, as well as villains so fascinating? For decades, society had found comfort,
hope, and inspiration in superheroes. The idea of having a superherois fascinating because one
person possess inherently good qualities to carry the burden of others. A superhero is kind and
fearless while continuously putting others before themselves. They usually possess amazing
abilities or powers, allowing them to handle a situation in a way a normal person couldn t. They
can be compared to Greek Gods, but because they also have flaws we are able to relate and

The Transition Of African American Literature
All throughout history you have many African American authors or writers who chose to write
stories about their lives. These stories are written in many different ways, and they gave us a true
insight on what was going during certain time periods. Also on how they lived or was treated
during their lifetime. This transition of literature, or writings ranged from those who grew up on a
plantation having to live out their whole lives as a slaves to those who were free, but they lived
under the constriction of Jim Crow laws. Another transition that can be seen through writing is how
African Americans went from living under Jim Crow to where we are today; having it where
African Americans are free with equal rights. With the help of African Americans

Unknown Bacteria Observation
For the first day, I received my unknown bacteria number 110 and I stared to observe that tube.
The tube has normal color, creamy, and little bit cloudy. First, I made two new slants to get the
strong and alive bacteria for further text. One tube was incubated at 250C and other at 370C.
Next, I started to do my Gram Stain. After I finished the smear, heat fix, and cover the slide with

Then, I looked up the slide though the microscope form 10X 40X oil 100X. I saw the bacteria

Juvenile Crimes Are Classified As Juvenile Delinquents
In the United States children and adolescents that partake in illegal behavior or commit crimes are
classified as juvenile delinquents. Those who are tried by the juvenile court system and continue
their illegal behavior are classified as repeat offenders. Juvenile crime can be either status offenses,
like under age drinking and range to violent crime, such as rape, aggravated assault, and even
property crimes. In many cases juveniles commit heinous acts that one would think only an adult is
capable of doing, this leads to sentences of life without parole.
In the past juveniles have been sentenced to life without parole, recent U.S. Supreme Court cases
have abolished this aw stating it violates their rights. Even though it reduces the recidivism

its principles into the executive summary I completed for this assignment. I don t know what you
think should be done differently in fulfilling this 5 page executive summary with four sources
which is what the instructions for this assignment stipulate, and which is what I wrote and
included. Thanks. The principle way for any business to establish trust and rapport with customers
is through peer related interactions. Quite simply, customers do not believe information provided
to them by watchdog organizations or by company overviews and documentation boasting about
their products and services. They do, however, believe and trust their relationships with their
peers. Once their peers can provide information and recommendations about an organization,
people are substantially more likely to utilize its products and services. Trust also plays an
integral role in the principle method of revenue collection for an online entity. There is evidence
that suggests that the best way of pursuing this goal, once there is a degree of trust between
customers and a business, is through credit cards. It is worth noting that Elsa Entrepreneur s odds

How Is Gaius Octavius Honorable
Gaius Octavius
Gaius Octavius was born September 23, 63 BCE. His father s name was Gaius. His father, who
died in 59 BCE, had been the first of the family to become a Roman senator and was elected to
the high annual office of the praetorship, which ranked second in the political hierarchy to the
consulship. This office was judicial and second only to consul in status in the Roman government.
Gaius Octavius was of a successful family that had long been settled at Velitrae, southeast of
Rome. 1 Octavius began his public life at age 12 when he delivered the funeral oration for his
grandmother, Julia. His great uncle, Julius Caesar, became the chief priest, Pontifex Maximus.
Gaius Octavius was from a prosperous family in Velitrae, a city southeast of Rome. He was
described as unusually handsome and exceedingly graceful at all periods of his life, though he
cared nothing for personal adornment. It was claimed that his expression, whether in
conversation or when he was silent, was calm and mild; that he had clear, bright eyes, in which
he believed there was a kind of divine power. His teeth were wide apart, small and ill kept; his hair
was slightly curly and gold in color. 2 He had a medium complexion, neither light nor dark. He was

incorrect classification of Native Americans from the Northwestern Plains, which has been shown
to occur 70% of the time when using this technique (Gill and Gilbert 1990). Hoping to address the
shortcomings of the Giles and Elliot technique (1962) with regard to Native American populations,
the interorbital features method was developed by Gill in 1984 with particular attention paid to
accurately distinguishing between individuals of European and Native American descent. The
interorbital features method utilizes a specialized coordinate caliper called a simometer (see
Appendix I for image) and involves a set of six measurements taken from the midfacial skeleton,
followed by computation of three indices: maxillofrontal, zygoorbital, and alpha. The three indices
are calculated by dividing three breadth measurements into their corresponding subtense
measurements, then multiplying by 100 (Gill et al. 1988). The six measurements as described by
Gill et al. (1988) are summarized in detail below, and images of the technique follow (Figure 1).

Summary Of Sully And The Imitation Game
Intro
Even though Sully and The Imitation Game are set more than 50 years apart, they both examine
the phenomenon of surviving against all odds, and the fascination the public has with any such
hero. Both Eastwood and Tyldum develop this theme in presenting their characters as national
heroes. Eastwood s story of protagonist Chesley Sully Sullenberger depicts how ex army now
commercial pilot Sully ditches a plane in the Hudson river as an emergency landing, saving the
entire crew and passengers. The essence of this story is that not only is Sully cast as an instant
national hero, but ironically is revealed behind the scenes as somewhat of a rogue and accused of
endangering lives. The fascination of a hero, is not always shared by others. ... Show more content

Yet, Eastwood and Tyldum differ in their interpretation of what makes a national hero. Eastwood
initially represents Sully as a symbol of the average American male, through a range of
establishing camera angles, which perpetuates Sully as a calm mannered and methodical pilot.
Tyldum s use of shadows and lighting accentuates a half lit face of Alan Turing in a police
interrogation room, making him appear helpless and troubled. Furthermore, this half lit lighting of
his face symbolises that there is another side to Alan, where he is a prisoner inside himself, and
now his sexuality, later revealed to the police. Sully is constructed as a reserved man who believes
that I am not a hero , his actions later dubbed the miracle of the Hudson . Unlike Eastwood, Tyldum
s narrator is identifiable only through thought and action. While the text is primarily first person
showing the accomplishments and setbacks of Alan Turing faces and his team, it frameshifted
forward after the war and backwards to his childhood. The narrator Alan Turing occasionally shifted
to 2nd person talking directly to the audience affording an insight into his motivations and concerns.

`` On Teenagers And Tattoos `` By Andres Martin Essay
Teenagers are rebellious by nature, as adolescence adventures down the road of self identity. Teens
are often viewed as the miscreants or vandals that plague the streets with their toxicity and obscene
tendencies, and although aggravating, proves vital for increased maturity in future endeavors.
However, teens can make decisions that last a lifetime, for example, tattoos. Tattoos are fairly
controversial at younger ages, but are growing more and more popular amongst adolescents with
the introduction and glorification of such body art by varying media, such as celebrities.
Teenagers are exploring the realm of body modifications at ever increasing rate, but contradictory
to common opinion, tattoos are a great candidate for an emotional catalyst, source of stability in a
time of need, or reminders of time long far gone.
On Teenagers and Tattoos is an informational article, written by Andres Martin, which discusses the
reasons and psychology behind the rising popularity of tattoos amongst adolescents. Martin (2000)
starts by identifying the simple reason of causation concerning the spike, stating that tattoos and
piercing can offer a concrete and readily available solution for many of the identity crises and
conflicts normative to adolescent development (p.143). Martin then details the strenuous nature of
adolescence, and shows that tattoos have more of a symbolic meaning than just a skull, and
provides 2 examples of such cases. Afterward, Martin explains in further detail,

them. He also stole mail from Maureen Rooney to get ahold of Kaitlin Costello Pryce. Frank did
all of this because the end would justify the means. Even though some of the things he did weren t

How Did Mikhail Gorbachev Impact The Soviet Union
The 1980s encompassed a critical turn of events of the Soviet Union. Its economy and agricultural
industry were crumbling. Advanced technology was lacking and factories were inefficient. Citizens
had no choice but to purchase low quality products, as a result, and social freedoms were
inadequate. Additionally, foreign affairs such as American rearmament and tensions throughout the
Soviet Bloc negatively impacted Soviet stability. In an effort of reform, Mikhail Gorbachev, Soviet
UnionGeneral Secretary, stepped in to improve the communist system my implementing democratic
principles. He introduced the concepts of perestroika, which means to reconstruct, and glasnost,
which means openness. Glasnost allowed for increased freedom of the press, while perestroika
allowed for governmental reform. One of these reforms included marketplace changes in the
economy. Gorbachev wanted to de monopolize businesses and eliminate price controls. In addition,
political reforms introduced contested elections in which multiple candidates were allowed to speak
out. The goal was to mimic the success of capitalist countries like the United Statesand Germany by
giving citizens a say in the government. Unfortunately, Gorbachev s changes did not help the Soviet

The Opening Chapters Of Anita Saterlee s Organizational...
The opening chapters of Anita Saterlee s Organizational Management Leadership: A Christian
Perspective introduce several business concepts that have been researched throughout the years. An
examination of these concepts reveal not all are similar and there is no one perfect leadership style.
Instead, the differences in leadershipstyles and management techniques, Satterlee argues, should
be based upon the type of work and organization in which the leader or manager is engaged
(Satterlee, 2013). Despite the transition inherent in the evolution of management theories,
discussed in Chapters 1 and 2, the concepts of Followership, Transformational Leadership, and
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs are timeless. The purpose of this report is to show that an in depth
study and examination into these three concepts are beneficial to all who desire to manage and
lead in any environment, in any field, and in any era.
Followership as a Precursor to Leadership Anita Satterlee makes an obvious, but profound
observation stating, A leader cannot lead without followers (Satterlee, pg. 6, 2013). Essentially, a
leader without subordinates who are engaged can not lead properly. While this concept is easy to
comprehend, what is most intriguing is Satterlee s claim that by mastering the role of
followership, a subordinate prepares for the role of leadership (Satterlee, pg. 7, 2013). Instead of
viewing leaders as being static, it is important to view the process of leadership as more

IV. Question 2 Compare and contrast Milton s Raphael with Pope s Ariel in as many respects as
you can. John Milton and Alexander Pope both write of supporting characters that are sent to
protect the main character in their stories. Both Ariel and Raphael have many similar qualities
that make them a character that is used to bring warning to the protagonist and to foreshadow to
readers what the outcome of the story will be. Ariel is a sylph, or a magical being that was a
coquette in his life before. Although this is distinctly different than Raphael s identity as one of
God s angels, they share several qualities. Both are described as being very friendly and gentle.
Ariel warns Belinda through a dream in attempt to protect her from the stealing of a lock of her
hair. Raphael is sent to Eden to become friends with Adam and to warn him of the sin that is
lying in wait for them. Both of these guardians are seeking protection for the human and desire
for them to be kept from evil. They also try to relate to the humans. Ariel understands Belinda s
vanity and pride in her appearance because he once was a coquette as well. He even assists in
her thorough morning routine. Raphael is also able to relate to Adam through the discussion of
love. Adam asks him about angel s love lives and Raphael is able to understand Adam s struggle
to not idolize his love for Eve. Angels seem to have many qualities that are similar to Adam and
Eve s, which makes it very easy for Raphael to

The Correlation between Stress, Overweight, and Exercise
The Correlation between Stress, Overweight and Exercise
Stress, exercise and obesity what do they have in common and what roll do they play in the
human body? Stress can cause obesity and exercise can elevate stress and obesity. They Mayo
Clinic says that stress can put a body at risk for many health problems, including anxiety,
depression, digestive problems, heart disease, sleep problems, weight gain, memory and
concentration impairment (Staff, 2013). In the same article the Mayo Clinic says that one way to
react to stressors in life is to get regular exercise. When a person is under stress, typically a fight or
flight situation, the hypothalamus sets off an alarm in the brain, causing the adrenal gland to
release the hormones, adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline, increases the heart rate, raises blood
pressure and boosts energy, it is a fast acting hormone that starts to wear off once the situation has
resolved. Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, curbs the non fight or flight body systems,
increases glucose to the brain and alters immune, digestive and growth systems. If a person is
under constant stress from work, home, school, relationships, finances, etc. cortisol is constantly
being released into the body causing the immune, digestive and reproductive systems to slow
down. Cortisol also slows the growth process and increases the glucose in the body. When the
immune system is slowed the body has a harder time fighting off germs and

Artificial Intelligence In Frankenstein
Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly a widely debated topic in today s society. Many groups
suggest that it could soon enslave humanity, while others proposing that it s harmless and only
here to make our lives better. Mary Shelley s 1818 Gothic text, Frankenstein, recounts the story of
an ambitious, young scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who is intrigued by alchemy and natural
philosophy. Victor becomes interested with these subjects after beginning at Ingolstadt and
eventually executes experiments that bring the dead back to life. He creates a creature who is
outcast by society, which provokes it to vow revenge on its creator. The creature sequentially kills
everybody that Victor loves and ruins his life (Shelley). Frankenstein has the indisputable theme of
creating artificial intelligence that turns bad, much like James Cameron s 1984 film, The
Terminator. In Cameron s film, humanity creates an artificially intelligent program known as
Skynet, which becomes completely cognizant and overthrows the world by initiating a nuclear
holocaust. In the aftermath, a group of survivors create a resistance that attempts to destroy the
program; however, they are met with Skynet s cyborg army. Skynet sends a terminator, played by
Arnold Schwarzenegger, back in time to destroy Sarah Connor before her son, the leader of the
resistance, is born. Kyle Reese is then sent after the terminator and, in conclusion, saves Sarah and
destroys the terminator (Terminator). This movie and text are closely related in the sense that a
character from either the book or motion picture relate to a character in the alternative. Nick
Bostrom, a philosopher and the University of Oxford, states, ...superintelligence could emerge, and
while it could be great [...] it could also decide it doesn t need humans around, (qtd. in Ford). This
philosopher, like many other technology critics, can see the effects that artificial intelligence may
have on our future, yet there is always the select group of people who cannot foresee the
consequences of their actions. For example, Victor Frankenstein is introduced to science at a young
age and when he went to college at Ingolstadt he met Professor Waldman, whom shared a similar
scientific interest.

Postmodernism And Its Impact On The Western Of The...
The emergence of postmodernism in the wake of the manifold carnage and destruction left by
World War II (1939 1945), induced a fundamental shift in paradigms of historiography. This is
patently evident when assessing the multi faceted impacts of postmodern critiques on the critical
variant of the Sonderweg master narrative. An assessment of these impacts will be achieved
through a close analysis of three historical works, namely Hans Ulrich Wehler s seminal social
historyon Imperial Germany1871 1918 (1973), David Blackbourn and Geoff Eley s neo Marxist
The Peculiarities of German History (1984) and Konrad. H. Jarausch and Michael Geyer s Shattered
Past: Reconstructing German Histories (2002). Postmodernism s impact manifests in these three
works by revealing an inherent tension between the postmodern approach to history and the
differing interpretations of the Sonderwegmaster narrative. This results in a weakening of the
Sonderweg thesis validity as its contribution to the historiographical debate surrounding the rise of
National Socialism in Germany, is constrained by such critiques and tensions. However, the
Sonderweg thesis facilitation of retrospective discussion through amplification of meaning ,
emphasises a different facet of historical validity . What prevails from this analysis, is that the
Sonderweg thesis attempt to explain the rise of National Socialism in Germany; while problematic,
has generated prolific historiographical debate and in this respect,

Similarities Between Jazz And Hip-Hop Music
This paper will highlight the similarities between jazz and hip hop music. African American
cultural forms and developments are as vast as they are diverse. However, because of white
America s consistently racist and oppressive treatment of people of color in this country there are
certain commonalities between African American cultures as a result of this continuous
subordination. I am going to display some of these existing similarities within hip hop and jazz
cultures. Albeit they are both musically and culturally different, each emerging out of a specific
historical moment with its own distinct musical and cultural practices, there exists enough
similarities between that two that it seems a comparison is indeed beneficial in understanding and
examining American society in general. The similarities between the two African American
cultures is also quite great. I will ask and answer questions such as: what were the effects the urban
ghettos from which both of these cultures arose out of had upon their initial development, and what
are some ways in which the music of both of these cultures is a form of alternative and self
empowering language?
Throughout the history of this country, the music of Afro Americans has remained a strong
influence upon our society and culture. Beginning with the music carried over from Africa with the

Modern Day Valentine s
The poem is essentially a critique of the cliched commercial form that the modern Valentine s
Day has become. More generally it is also critical of a form of love which lacks honesty,
meaning, and use of the imagination. Duffy uses the symbol of an onion to represent a truly
meaningful gift for one s lover. This is the opposite of the cute card or a kissogram (l.12). The
poem asks the reader to evaluate not only this view of love, but also his or her conception of
Valentine s Dayin particular and love in general; this conception may have become accepted without
question.
The structure of the poem has been skilfully manipulated to emphasise Duffy s key points.
Important ideas have been deliberately highlighted by isolating them in the form of one line
verse paragraphs. We also have the run on line (enjambment) used again to create smooth flow
downward. Lastly, we have the use of a form of dialogue; the narrator is speaking to her lover,
but he does not reply. This serves to give us the effect of a dialogue without the strictly correct
dramatic format. It is a distinctly one sided dialogue which expresses the perspective of the narrator
and perhaps invites the reader to enter the debate.
Analysis:
I give you an onion immediately a strange thing to give someone; usually associated with repelling
people/ unromantic in the extreme think of what happens when you eat onions.
Not a red rose or satin heart. symbols of the cliched commercial and, according to Duffy,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spyware
Spyware is a worldwide scourge that has turned out to be progressively across the board and
pernicious. A May 2005 overview by the Ponemon Institute found that 85% of regular web clients
trust that they have had spyware on their PC, and 86% of those clients said that the spyware
brought on them a direct money related or efficiency misfortune. A sweep of 3 million PC
frameworks directed more than nine months by EarthLink in 2004 discovered 83 million cases of
spyware. Spyware is programming that is introduced on a PC without the information or assent of
the client, to gather and transmit information from the PC. Inside of this definition, be that as it
may, there are wide ranges of sorts of spyware. Some spyware is generally amiable. One case is
spyware, which gathers data about how a client uses a product application and reports that data back
to the product merchant. On the off chance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spyware may get on to a PC in various ways. Spyware merchants here and there use deceiving or
tricky strategies to urge clients to introduce spyware, for example, by showing a fake message
requesting that clients introduce programming to settle a working framework issue. Spyware may
be secretively introduced on a PC associated with the Internet, which is insufficiently secured.
Frequently, spyware is incorporated as a piece of a bigger programming bundle introduced by the
client. The permit understanding gave the product may neglect to show that spyware will be
introduced alongside the principle program. On the other hand, the permit assentation furnished
with the product may show the vicinity of spyware, yet be exhibited in a little textual style or
encircled in purposely ambiguous and specialized language so that most clients will acknowledge
the understanding without perusing and comprehension

Charles Eames Psychology
Although I am familiar with the Eames name and especially their contributions to chair design, I
admittedly did not know the Eames were so engrained in American history beyond their
contributions to the chair.
The one thing that really stands out to me as the main reason for their success is specifically
Charles Eames insatiable desire to learn, and further, the incorporation of his artistic and
architectural visions to produce novel ideas and projects to epitomize Gardner s great man/woman
definition of creativity. It would be naГЇve to dismiss the idea that revenue was also most likely a
motivating factor, but the revenue as depicted in the documentary was specifically a means to
financial ends; a source of income for truly revolutionary work. I think ultimately, no matter the
amount of revenue, unless someone is inherently motivated, Gardner s great man/woman definition
cannot be fulfilled due to the almost magical power that innate motivation, interest, drive, and work
ethic have on individuals who are heralded in history ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From both of the accounts, it seemed that regardless of what was going on around them, they both
had a continuous, unrelenting thought process regarding things they were passionate about. As
Einstein eloquently stated, I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious. In my opinion,
although Einstein understated his legendary scientific acumen (the same acumen that makes his
name synonymous with genius), the quote reinforces the idea that Einstein s curiosity was most
instrumental in his success. It would make sense, considering both are posthumously esteemed
members of academia for their theories and providing revolutionary food for thought. Eames
seemed to have this same desire where it seems he was always trying to think or learn simply out of

The Impact Of Ferdinand Porsche On Germany s Efforts...
A. Summary of Evidence :
Critical Analysis of the sources indicates that Ferdinand Porsche had made a large impact on
Germany s efforts during World War 2. Due to his affiliation and close relation to Hitler he had
been tasked with many engineering projects that had come to the aid of Germany s military forces
and perhaps had become the economic miracle that Germany was in need of with his success of the
VW beetle. By diving into the sources I have found that Porsche s early stages began by supplying
German troops with new aviation technology as well as tanks known as the Elefant. An interview
conducted at Porsche Centre Johannesburg which is one of the largest centres in the world clearly
back these sources. It was made clear to me by the interviewee that the roots of the Porsche
company do indeed stem from a military and agricultural background. However Ferdinand Porsche
also had a strong relationship with the USSR which seemed to cause some doubts. By
reviewing the German Economy during World War 2 it was clear that Germany was in need of
an economic miracle in order to save it as their economy had taken a large hit during the war.
The sources clearly point that the success of the VW Beetle did indeed help to resurrect the
economy but however the economy had already bled out by then. Therefore Mr Ferdinand
Porsche and his company did indeed help Germany in the war and it could be stated that the war
could have ended much earlier if his aid was not there. Why

Persuasive Essay On Immigration Reform
The United States, immigration policy is at a standstill due to intense political divisions.
Undocumented immigrants face major issues by coming to this country to get a chance in rising
socioeconomically and to achieve a better way of life for themselves, as well as for their families.
Refugees fleeing their unsafe and war destructed countries are punished by this political division,
waiting and seeking asylum in the United States. Immigrationin the United States has long
supported the growth and power of the economy of this country. Immigrants are taxpayers,
consumers, entrepreneurs and job creators. They contribute trillions of dollars to the US economy
and are vital for the future of the United States. The new administration with its threats of increased
immigration enforcement and restrictions on legal immigrants and refugees will cost the taxpayer
huge amounts and is threatening immigrants and their families. An Immigration Reform needs to
be put in place to address the following issues; safety of immigrants, stop racial profiling by policy
officers, work visas and protecting the dreamers with the DREAM ACT which would help millions
of undocumented youth a pathway to citizenship through education.
Solutions
Our current administration perceives the current immigration system as broken and in need of
revision to help the current labor market and grow the economy. Driven by myths that immigrants
hurt economic growth and that immigrants steal American jobs. America

Effectiveness Of Psychiatric Programs For Children Essay
Children in crisis are at a higher risk of developing mental health issues due to traumatic
experiences. Several interventions are available to reduce the effects of traumatic experiences on
children. In this paper, the effectiveness of psychiatric programs for children in crisis will be
investigated. It is hypothesized that psychiatric intervention programs are effective in reducing
stress reactions in children in crisis but an holistic approached must be adopted to obtain better
results. The following four literature reviews attempt to validate and support this hypothesis. In a
research article by Ager, Stark, Akesson Boothby (2010), the authors attempted to identify best
practices used by practitioners in the care and protection of children in crisis. The determination
of best practices would identify areas where there is harmony in the provision of this care and
protection and where there is disharmony, it would provide the basis for policy and programmatic
review in the area. Additionally, identification of these best practices allows for the deliberation of
how this knowledge reflects on the development and contribution of research in the enhancement of
practices for the care and protection of children in crisis. The study participants were senior
practitioners working with major agencies involved in humanitarian response for the care and
protection of children in crisis. The study employed a three phase Delphi design which involved
elicitation of proposed best

Analysis Of The Film Before Night Falls
The movie Before Night Falls directed by Julian Schnabel offers viewers a glimpse of how the
homosexual community in Cuba was being mistreated under Fidel Castro s regime. The true
story is told in the eyes of Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas. The film depicts Arenas life in Cuba and
all of the awful experiences that he had to deal with as a homosexual. Eventually he was arrested

the first example of harassment towards homosexuals as he was furious when the teacher expressed
to Arenas grandfather that Arenas has a sensitivity for poetry. To his grandfather, he thought of
poetry as not being masculine. Eventually, Arenas grew up and discovered his sexuality.

homosexuality because of fear from the police. The Cuban Police often times harassed the LGBT

Challenges Of Radical Reconstruction
Following the end of the Civil War in 1865, the United States faced many political challenges. One
of these challenges would include the reintegration of the
Confederate states that had seceded from the Union. There were many questions and issues with
exactly how these states should be reintegrated back into the United States.
Another challenge that quickly came to the forefront, after the Civil War, was how to handle the
millions of freed African American slaves. This challenge would entail several things but more
specifically, how the government would give freedmen their freedom and equality, provide for
their civil and political rights, such as voting, and provide suitable land they could own. This
period after the Civil War... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
African Americans would continue to face additional unfair laws which would stifle their freedom.
In 1866, Frederick Douglass, along with a collective of other African Americans, went to the White
House to see President Johnson. They had a message to deliver to the president. They would talk
about not being happy with The Thirteenth Amendment that just ended slavery but did nothing to
enforce the equality of civil rights. They wanted the same protected rights afforded to natural born
Americans. In 1866, the Civil Rights
Bill, written by Lyman Trumbull, was passed by congress. This act would address many specific
things but mainly focused on the equality of all citizens. This act would also ultimately ignore
issues such as voting rights. It would also state in part that any person who discriminated against a
person of color would, ...shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, on conviction, shall be
punished by a fine... It would continue by also mentioning possible imprisonment in conjunction
with the fine. Unfortunately,
President Johnson would veto The Civil Rights Bill,

Martin Luther Research Paper
You don t need a sociology degree to understand movements calcify into institutions, then decay and
crumble. So as we near the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther s nailing 95 thesis to a church door,
why is the Reformation still a global movement?
In Africa today there are more than twice as many Lutherans than in the United States. Even in
America God continues to bring new people to faith and transform the lives of His followers
I m convinced the movement is fueled by a relationship. A quote of Luther started me down this
path:
Though I lived as a religious leader without reproach, I felt, with the most disturbed conscience
imaginable, that I was a sinner before God. I did not love, indeed I hated the righteous God who
punishes sinners.
When I first read this quote I decided there is such a thing as ... Show more content on

People are born in sin but have no legitimate way to atone for those sins. Unfair treatment angers a
lot of people, especially people like Luther who desperately try to play by the rules.
I think the Roman Catholic teaching struck a much deeper chord in Luther. We all long for the
affirmation of our fathers. We also have a deep need for acceptance by our Heavenly Father.
According to the Church, Luther was never certain he would receive the favor of the Heavenly
Father, let alone enter heaven. This was devastating.
Much is made of the three solas of the Reformation: Scripture alone, Grace alone and Faith alone. I
am not convinced even when taken together these three were enough to fuel a movement that has
lasted almost half a millennium.
Instead, I think the three solas were indispensable as conditions for the catalyst of the movement.
Luther himself can show us the Reformation s spark. He spent a lifetime longing for acceptance by
God the Father, yet was convinced this is impossible. Salvation by God s grace through faith in Jesus
was a revelation to Luther. I mean this

Choosing The Forbes Travel Guide Star
This means that every month for the last 2 years, 6.2 new luxury hotel were built in the world.
Hotels where each guest may easily fancy himself as prince surrounded by a flock of courtiers
(Sherman, 2007, p. 26) are being required more and more every day. The World Luxury Index
(2014) revealed that the global consumer interest for the luxury hospitality industry grew 7.7% in
one year.
The numbers donВґt lie, the luxury hotels industry is growing fast. But, are they positioning
themselves correctly in the consumer s head? Are they targeting the right client segment? And what
are the triggers they use to attract their consumers?
To answer these questions, I chose two luxury hotels brands. I will evaluate and compare them
covering the brands personalities and positioning, and analyze what these brands do to motivate the
consumers in their purchase decision. The two brands chosen were The Ritz Carlton and the South
African Lodge Londolozi. These very different choices were made considering The Forbes Travel
Guide Star Awards definition of Luxury Hotel; it defines them as those that provide a memorable
experience through virtually flawless service and the finest of amenities. In these hotels, the staff is
perceptive, involved and passionate, willing to go that extra mile. They were both designed with
the guest s comfort in mind, investing special attention to quality.

Myosin Light Chain
All organisms, from humans to simple bacteria, have a necessity to move in order to adapt to
changes in their external or internal environment, navigate towards food, and avoid dangers. Even
cells are teeming with motion as they reorganize organelles, nucleic acids, and proteins. At the
molecular level, two types of elements assist in the control movements of the cell and the organism
as a whole: molecular motor proteins and intricate complexes of proteinfilaments that make up the
cytoskeleton of the cell (Vale and Milligan, 2000). Myosinis a family of motor protein that act as
enzymes in the hydrolysis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to form adenosine diphosphate (ADP)
and inorganic phosphate (Pi), The energy released by this reaction to drive the movement of

  • 2. Year-Round Schooling Argumentative Analysis As of 2014, over 3000 schools in the United States are year round. Instead of having one longer summer break, these schools take several shorter breaks throughout the year (Scholastic 15). With so many advantages and very few disadvantages of year round schooling, it is not surprising that these schools chose to exchange their excessively long summerbreaks for shorter, more frequent breaks. Not only can year round schooling improve the academic performance of students, but it can also economically benefit all aspects of society. Schools should adopt a year round calendar, causing one to question the perils of year round schooling. Year round schooling promotes the academic achievement of students. • 6. Comparing Langston Hughes And Robert Hayden The survival of the Black American family is a revolutionary act. The system of slavery purposefully separated and destroyed black families. Yet, in the face of obstacles, the Black family as an institution survived. Langston Hughes and Robert Hayden show the power of connection, love, and learning between the Black parent and the Black child. Many Black poets write about the Black experience in America, but few capture the interactions between Black parent and Black child the way Langston Hughes and Robert Hayden do in their poems Mother to Son and Those Winter Sundays , respectively. Langston Hughes and Robert Hayden use metaphors and imagery to portray the lessons Black children learn from Black parents. Being a parent is hard work. Unfortunately,... The mother is teaching her son a lesson in determination and resilience. She wants him to understand two axioms: 1) no matter how unbearable life becomes, giving up is not an option, and 2) if she can persevere through tough times, then so can he. On the contrary, the narrator in Hayden s poem realizes the lesson in a moment of reflection. Hayden writes, What did I know, what did I know/ of love s austere and lonely offices (1047)? In these lines the child is asking a question, but really stating that he did not recognize as a child how his dad showed love for his family and he did not realize how lonely his dad must have felt. This quote from the chapter Spin in the book The Things They Carried by Tim O Brien, brings together what this platoon, Alpha Company, of young adults would never forget about what they will go through in the Vietnam War. War comes death , sacrifice, and broken minds at the end. The death of Ted Lavender was a shifting point for the the platoonand its Lieutenant Jimmy Cross. Ted Lavender was a scared young adult who was the first one from the platoon to meet death. It was something that would never go away... (O Brien, 26) Out of hundreds of photos they both focused on Ted Lavender and hit a soft spot for both of them. They related and were able to get in touch with those emotions even after many years passing. Although after Ted Lavender, there were many more soldiers the platoon had seen pass away. But even after all that time Ted Lavender is still relevant throughout the book. He had made an impact considering that his only role in the platoons life was that he was the first death they had seen that was one of them. Tim O Brien tells the story all over again as he did in the beginning of the book. The lean project manager does not understand why you, the safety manager, want to be a part of the process. Provide a convincing argument about what you can contribute if you are included. Lean manufacturing is based upon the philosophy that zero waste is a legitimate goal for an organization. Lean manufacturing is based on finding efficiencies and removing wasteful steps that don t add value to the end product (Lean manufacturing, 2012, Mind Tools). Defects are bad for customers in the sense that customers receive an unwanted, defective product but also bad for businesses that must eat the cost of the defective product, as well as suffer a blow to their reputations. This is particularly true for a safety related item such as a brake pad. Waste in terms of unneeded expenditures will make the product more expensive, taking away value from the company in terms of profits and also making consumers less likely to buy a costly item. Waste can occur in a number of areas, including overproduction; delays; inventory buildups; over processing; inefficiencies in the human aspects of in manufacturing; product defects; and inefficient allocations of labor (Lean manufacturing, 2012, Mind Tools). A Linotype is a machine that was used back in the day to produce lines of words as single strips of metal and it was mainly used for newspapers. The Copperplate typeface has many elements from different sources. For example, the typeface has a resemblance to stone carvings, lapidary engravings and classic roman typefaces. Frederic W. Goudy named this typeface Copperplate because from 1530 up to the 19th century copperplate engraving was a very popular technique to create illustrated material. Copperplate engraving consists of engraving or etching some type of design into a plate made of copper. He meant this typeface to be used by Linotype machines for the production of newspapers and many other types of printing and so it has AB and BC designations to help distinguish the difference between the capital letters and the small caps. It also has a numbering system that tells us the difference in weight and width of the typeface. The Copperplate typeface was first released by Goudy as a font family which contained many weights and variations. It was designed in all caps and small caps because it was meant to be used for headlines and header design, also for stationary and society printing. Copperplate typeface imitates lapidary inscriptions, this is why it is categorized as a glyphic typeface. Another characteristic of glyphic typefaces is that the contrast of the stroke weight in a character is minimum and we can observe this in all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. What Is Language Devoid Of The Social Context Of Its... To make language devoid of the social context of its creation and use is to dislocate it from which it derives its meanings. Thus ridding it of its use with the only benefit of understanding what it is made up of. However, understanding what language is made of and understanding how to use it are two different things, neither of which will give you a complete understanding of languageon its own. Using Gardner s analogy of language being like a fish you dissect as well as observe within its habitat, to view language as devoid of its social context is to remove the fish from the ocean, the environment in which is serves its purpose. In order to understand what forms it, however, removal and dissection is necessary. Unfortunately, neither... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An opposing argument would be that one s thoughts aren t necessarily used to communicate and yet they still use language. People talk like others and still each of us has our own unique style (Bakhtin, as cited in Gee and Hayes 2011, pg. 7). Our immediate surroundings in the early stages of development shape the language we learn to speak first. Looking at Darwin s theory of evolution (1859, cited in O Neil 2013, para. 20) and how the finches from the Galapagos Islands were all divergences of their ancestral species, the language which we develop from our social and cultural backgrounds evolves (obviously in a much faster process than that of the finches). This is the way language changes and yet remains the same. After studying language development in children, Michael Halliday identified seven functions it had for them. The first four help satisfy physical need and the last three help them understand the environment. Language is a communal resource from which we all beg borrow and steal (Gee and Hayes, 2011, pg. 7). It has also been suggested by Gee and Hayes (2011) that it would be highly likely that all human language developed from one original language. We can see a similar idea in Minna Sundberg s illustration of the Old World Language Families tree, where Indo European branched off to European, which then branched off to Germanic, West Germanic, Anglo Frisian and finally English. • 15. People Across The Nation By Fred Astaire Throughout time there has been a constant ebb and flow of civilizations developing, imploding or being actively destroyed by stronger societies. From the Renaissance to the World Wars, the existence of the human race has never been a question. Even through times of despair and prosperity, the human race has persisted and even advanced itself. Improvements in technology, medicine, education, and communication have increased the life capacity, expectancy, and satisfaction of people every day. However, even with these well intentioned efforts to improve the humanrace, ultimately our humanity has been adversely affected. Instead, we are now driven by a selfish desire to advance our personal agendas and achieve celebrity status. These misguided behaviors have become the new norm . Fred Astaire sums this surrender of compassion into one amazing quote: The hardest job kids face today is learning good manners without seeing any. Even though Astaire s statement contradicts the beliefs of many people across the nation, it shows insight into the true problem. Positive social interactions are no longer a normalized aspect of human life. While the vanishing of respect for one another has hit the mainstream more recently; the issue has been around for multiple centuries. This pattern and its consequences had already drawn the attention of European and American observers by the early 19th century (Fass 85). Yet, we have not tried to fix the issue, but only allowed the bad behavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, throughout five paragraphs, I am going to be talking about the tragedy of Kino and his family, but most importantly who or what is responsible. I argue that greed, culture, anger, happiness, luck, death, and evil are all significant aspects of this book, which influenced everyone in the story at one point which includes them in the responsibility of the tragedy that Kino and his family faced. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, thus making himself King. The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in shame. In the movie The Lion King, there are many different types of archetypes shown in many ways. The archetypal pattern that is shown in the movie is end of childhood/loss of innocence. This pattern is about the tragedy of growing up. This is demonstrated in the movie by the loss that Simba experiences with his father. This would be recognized as an individual loss of innocence, because Simba had to learn how to cope with the death of his father. In the movie, Simba would be classified as the hero. Thanks. The principle way for any business to establish trust and rapport with customers is through peer related interactions. Quite simply, customers do not believe information provided to them by watchdog organizations or by company overviews and documentation boasting about their products and services. They do, however, believe and trust their relationships with their peers. Once their peers can provide information and recommendations about an organization, people are substantially more likely to utilize its products and services. Trust also plays an integral role in the principle method of revenue collection for an online entity. There is evidence that suggests that the best way of pursuing this goal, once there is a degree of trust between customers and a business, is through credit cards. Of particular concern is the incorrect classification of Native Americans from the Northwestern Plains, which has been shown to occur 70% of the time when using this technique (Gill and Gilbert 1990). Hoping to address the shortcomings of the Giles and Elliot technique (1962) with regard to Native American populations, the interorbital features method was developed by Gill in 1984 with particular attention paid to accurately distinguishing between individuals of European and Native American descent. The interorbital features method utilizes a specialized coordinate caliper called a simometer (see Appendix I for image) and involves a set of six measurements taken from the midfacial skeleton, followed by computation of three indices: maxillofrontal, zygoorbital, and alpha. The three indices are calculated by dividing three breadth measurements into their corresponding subtense measurements, then multiplying by 100 (Gill et al. 1988). However, teens can make decisions that last a lifetime, for example, tattoos. The opening chapters of Anita Saterlee s Organizational Management Leadership: A Christian Perspective introduce several business concepts that have been researched throughout the years. An examination of these concepts reveal not all are similar and there is no one perfect leadership style. Instead, the differences in leadershipstyles and management techniques, Satterlee argues, should be based upon the type of work and organization in which the leader or manager is engaged (Satterlee, 2013). Despite the transition inherent in the evolution of management theories, discussed in Chapters 1 and 2, the concepts of Followership, Transformational Leadership, and Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs are timeless. The purpose of this report is to show that an in depth study and examination into these three concepts are beneficial to all who desire to manage and lead in any environment, in any field, and in any era. John Milton and Alexander Pope both write of supporting characters that are sent to protect the main character in their stories. Both Ariel and Raphael have many similar qualities that make them a character that is used to bring warning to the protagonist and to foreshadow to readers what the outcome of the story will be. Ariel is a sylph, or a magical being that was a coquette in his life before. Although this is distinctly different than Raphael s identity as one of God s angels, they share several qualities. Both are described as being very friendly and gentle. Ariel warns Belinda through a dream in attempt to protect her from the stealing of a lock of her hair. Raphael is sent to Eden to become friends with Adam and to warn him of the sin that is lying in wait for them. Both of these guardians are seeking protection for the human and desire for them to be kept from evil. They also try to relate to the humans. Ariel understands Belinda s vanity and pride in her appearance because he once was a coquette as well. He even assists in her thorough morning routine. The Correlation between Stress, Overweight, and Exercise The Correlation between Stress, Overweight and Exercise Stress, exercise and obesity what do they have in common and what roll do they play in the human body? Stress can cause obesity and exercise can elevate stress and obesity. They Mayo Clinic says that stress can put a body at risk for many health problems, including anxiety, depression, digestive problems, heart disease, sleep problems, weight gain, memory and concentration impairment (Staff, 2013). In the same article the Mayo Clinic says that one way to react to stressors in life is to get regular exercise. When a person is under stress, typically a fight or flight situation, the hypothalamus sets off an alarm in the brain, causing the adrenal gland to release the hormones, adrenaline and cortisol. Adrenaline, increases the heart rate, raises blood pressure and boosts energy, it is a fast acting hormone that starts to wear off once the situation has resolved. Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, curbs the non fight or flight body systems, increases glucose to the brain and alters immune, digestive and growth systems. If a person is under constant stress from work, home, school, relationships, finances, etc. cortisol is constantly being released into the body causing the immune, digestive and reproductive systems to slow down. • 41. Artificial Intelligence In Frankenstein Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly a widely debated topic in today s society. Many groups suggest that it could soon enslave humanity, while others proposing that it s harmless and only here to make our lives better. Mary Shelley s 1818 Gothic text, Frankenstein, recounts the story of an ambitious, young scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who is intrigued by alchemy and natural philosophy. Victor becomes interested with these subjects after beginning at Ingolstadt and eventually executes experiments that bring the dead back to life. He creates a creature who is outcast by society, which provokes it to vow revenge on its creator. The creature sequentially kills everybody that Victor loves and ruins his life (Shelley). Frankenstein has the indisputable theme of creating artificial intelligence that turns bad, much like James Cameron s 1984 film, The Terminator. In Cameron s film, humanity creates an artificially intelligent program known as Skynet, which becomes completely cognizant and overthrows the world by initiating a nuclear holocaust. In the aftermath, a group of survivors create a resistance that attempts to destroy the program; however, they are met with Skynet s cyborg army. Skynet sends a terminator, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, back in time to destroy Sarah Connor before her son, the leader of the resistance, is born. Kyle Reese is then sent after the terminator and, in conclusion, saves Sarah and destroys the terminator (Terminator). This movie and text are closely related in the sense that a character from either the book or motion picture relate to a character in the alternative. Nick Bostrom, a philosopher and the University of Oxford, states, ...superintelligence could emerge, and while it could be great [...] it could also decide it doesn t need humans around, (qtd. in Ford). This philosopher, like many other technology critics, can see the effects that artificial intelligence may have on our future, yet there is always the select group of people who cannot foresee the consequences of their actions. For example, Victor Frankenstein is introduced to science at a young age and when he went to college at Ingolstadt he met Professor Waldman, whom shared a similar scientific interest. ... • 42. Postmodernism And Its Impact On The Western Of The... The emergence of postmodernism in the wake of the manifold carnage and destruction left by World War II (1939 1945), induced a fundamental shift in paradigms of historiography. This is patently evident when assessing the multi faceted impacts of postmodern critiques on the critical variant of the Sonderweg master narrative. An assessment of these impacts will be achieved through a close analysis of three historical works, namely Hans Ulrich Wehler s seminal social historyon Imperial Germany1871 1918 (1973), David Blackbourn and Geoff Eley s neo Marxist The Peculiarities of German History (1984) and Konrad. H. Jarausch and Michael Geyer s Shattered Past: Reconstructing German Histories (2002). Postmodernism s impact manifests in these three works by revealing an inherent tension between the postmodern approach to history and the differing interpretations of the Sonderwegmaster narrative. This results in a weakening of the Sonderweg thesis validity as its contribution to the historiographical debate surrounding the rise of National Socialism in Germany, is constrained by such critiques and tensions. However, the Sonderweg thesis facilitation of retrospective discussion through amplification of meaning , emphasises a different facet of historical validity . What prevails from this analysis, is that the Sonderweg thesis attempt to explain the rise of National Socialism in Germany; while problematic, has generated prolific historiographical debate and in this respect, ... • 44. Similarities Between Jazz And Hip-Hop Music This paper will highlight the similarities between jazz and hip hop music. African American cultural forms and developments are as vast as they are diverse. However, because of white America s consistently racist and oppressive treatment of people of color in this country there are certain commonalities between African American cultures as a result of this continuous subordination. I am going to display some of these existing similarities within hip hop and jazz cultures. Albeit they are both musically and culturally different, each emerging out of a specific historical moment with its own distinct musical and cultural practices, there exists enough similarities between that two that it seems a comparison is indeed beneficial in understanding and examining American society in general. The similarities between the two African American cultures is also quite great. I will ask and answer questions such as: what were the effects the urban ghettos from which both of these cultures arose out of had upon their initial development, and what are some ways in which the music of both of these cultures is a form of alternative and self empowering language? Throughout the history of this country, the music of Afro Americans has remained a strong influence upon our society and culture. Beginning with the music carried over from Africa with the slaves, up until now, with the new styles created by urban youth today, African Americans have retained certain elements within their music which ... • 45. Modern Day Valentine s The poem is essentially a critique of the cliched commercial form that the modern Valentine s Day has become. More generally it is also critical of a form of love which lacks honesty, meaning, and use of the imagination. Duffy uses the symbol of an onion to represent a truly meaningful gift for one s lover. This is the opposite of the cute card or a kissogram (l.12). The poem asks the reader to evaluate not only this view of love, but also his or her conception of Valentine s Dayin particular and love in general; this conception may have become accepted without question. The structure of the poem has been skilfully manipulated to emphasise Duffy s key points. Important ideas have been deliberately highlighted by isolating them in the form of one line verse paragraphs. We also have the run on line (enjambment) used again to create smooth flow downward. Lastly, we have the use of a form of dialogue; the narrator is speaking to her lover, but he does not reply. This serves to give us the effect of a dialogue without the strictly correct dramatic format. It is a distinctly one sided dialogue which expresses the perspective of the narrator and perhaps invites the reader to enter the debate. Analysis: I give you an onion immediately a strange thing to give someone; usually associated with repelling people/ unromantic in the extreme think of what happens when you eat onions. • 46. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spyware Spyware is a worldwide scourge that has turned out to be progressively across the board and pernicious. A May 2005 overview by the Ponemon Institute found that 85% of regular web clients trust that they have had spyware on their PC, and 86% of those clients said that the spyware brought on them a direct money related or efficiency misfortune. A sweep of 3 million PC frameworks directed more than nine months by EarthLink in 2004 discovered 83 million cases of spyware. Spyware is programming that is introduced on a PC without the information or assent of the client, to gather and transmit information from the PC. • 47. Charles Eames Psychology Although I am familiar with the Eames name and especially their contributions to chair design, I admittedly did not know the Eames were so engrained in American history beyond their contributions to the chair. The one thing that really stands out to me as the main reason for their success is specifically Charles Eames insatiable desire to learn, and further, the incorporation of his artistic and architectural visions to produce novel ideas and projects to epitomize Gardner s great man/woman definition of creativity. It would be naГЇve to dismiss the idea that revenue was also most likely a motivating factor, but the revenue as depicted in the documentary was specifically a means to financial ends; a source of income for truly revolutionary work. I think ultimately, no matter the amount of revenue, unless someone is inherently motivated, Gardner s great man/woman definition cannot be fulfilled due to the almost magical power that innate motivation, interest, drive, and work ethic have on individuals who are heralded in history ... • 48. The Impact Of Ferdinand Porsche On Germany s Efforts... A. Summary of Evidence : Critical Analysis of the sources indicates that Ferdinand Porsche had made a large impact on Germany s efforts during World War 2. Due to his affiliation and close relation to Hitler he had been tasked with many engineering projects that had come to the aid of Germany s military forces and perhaps had become the economic miracle that Germany was in need of with his success of the VW beetle. By diving into the sources I have found that Porsche s early stages began by supplying German troops with new aviation technology as well as tanks known as the Elefant. An interview conducted at Porsche Centre Johannesburg which is one of the largest centres in the world clearly back these sources. It was made clear to me by the interviewee that the roots of the Porsche company do indeed stem from a military and agricultural background. However Ferdinand Porsche also had a strong relationship with the USSR which seemed to cause some doubts. By reviewing the German Economy during World War 2 it was clear that Germany was in need of an economic miracle in order to save it as their economy had taken a large hit during the war. The sources clearly point that the success of the VW Beetle did indeed help to resurrect the economy but however the economy had already bled out by then. Therefore Mr Ferdinand Porsche and his company did indeed help Germany in the war and it could be stated that the war could have ended much earlier if his aid was not there. Why ... • 51. Effectiveness Of Psychiatric Programs For Children Essay Children in crisis are at a higher risk of developing mental health issues due to traumatic experiences. Several interventions are available to reduce the effects of traumatic experiences on children. In this paper, the effectiveness of psychiatric programs for children in crisis will be investigated. It is hypothesized that psychiatric intervention programs are effective in reducing stress reactions in children in crisis but an holistic approached must be adopted to obtain better results. The following four literature reviews attempt to validate and support this hypothesis. In a research article by Ager, Stark, Akesson Boothby (2010), the authors attempted to identify best practices used by practitioners in the care and protection of children in crisis. The determination of best practices would identify areas where there is harmony in the provision of this care and protection and where there is disharmony, it would provide the basis for policy and programmatic review in the area. Additionally, identification of these best practices allows for the deliberation of how this knowledge reflects on the development and contribution of research in the enhancement of practices for the care and protection of children in crisis. The study participants were senior practitioners working with major agencies involved in humanitarian response for the care and protection of children in crisis. Another challenge that quickly came to the forefront, after the Civil War, was how to handle the millions of freed African American slaves. So as we near the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther s nailing 95 thesis to a church door, why is the Reformation still a global movement? In Africa today there are more than twice as many Lutherans than in the United States. Even in America God continues to bring new people to faith and transform the lives of His followers I m convinced the movement is fueled by a relationship. A quote of Luther started me down this path: Though I lived as a religious leader without reproach, I felt, with the most disturbed conscience imaginable, that I was a sinner before God. People are born in sin but have no legitimate way to atone for those sins. Unfair treatment angers a lot of people, especially people like Luther who desperately try to play by the rules. I think the Roman Catholic teaching struck a much deeper chord in Luther. We all long for the affirmation of our fathers. We also have a deep need for acceptance by our Heavenly Father. According to the Church, Luther was never certain he would receive the favor of the Heavenly Father, let alone enter heaven. This was devastating. Much is made of the three solas of the Reformation: Scripture alone, Grace alone and Faith alone. I am not convinced even when taken together these three were enough to fuel a movement that has lasted almost half a millennium. Instead, I think the three solas were indispensable as conditions for the catalyst of the movement. Luther himself can show us the Reformation s spark. He spent a lifetime longing for acceptance by God the Father, yet was convinced this is impossible. Salvation by God s grace through faith in Jesus was a revelation to Luther. I mean this ...
