This document summarizes student and teacher perspectives on art at two intermediate schools, Mapleview and Woodland. Students enjoy art because it allows them to express themselves and use their imagination. They see having their artwork displayed as important because it shows their creativity and builds confidence. Art is also viewed as an important break from other academic subjects. The schools highlight student artwork through hallway displays, art shows, websites, and newsletters to celebrate students' talents.

4. Students thoughts on art…. Libby (Woodland) – Why do you enjoy art? “I enjoy art because it is a fun way to express myself. I also get to use my imagination in every project.” Why is it important to have your artwork displayed?“It is important to have my artwork displayed because I like other people to see my creativity and it makes me proud to see it when I walk through the halls.” Why is art important to your school day? “Art is important to my school day because you don’t just have to sit in your desk and learn. You get to learn different kinds of techniques and again use my imagination in every project!”

Charlie (Mapleview) – Why do you enjoy art? “I can express my emotions, and it is a break in life, where I can find peace and it is just fun for me.” Why is it important to have your artwork displayed? “So that when you’re walking in the hallway and you see it, it reminds you of the talent you have, and it builds self confidence.” Why is art important to your school day? “It is a break in my school day. It is something I love to do. I don’t look forward to math, but I look forward to art.”
