This document presents a hybrid controller combining fuzzy logic control and vector control methods for controlling the speed of an induction motor. The hybrid controller incorporates a fuzzy logic controller in the speed control loop of a vector controlled induction motor drive. Simulation results show the hybrid fuzzy-vector controller provides faster response, lower starting current, and better handling of load disturbances compared to a traditional PI controller. The hybrid controller was able to achieve steady state speed 13 times faster than a PI controller alone and improved the dynamic response of the induction motor.
