Patient Safety and eHealth in the rescue: A revolution unfoldingMohammad Yeakub
Patient safety issues are increasing as practice of medicine gets more complex and expansive, and deserves utmost attention in controlling this exponentially growing challenge.
Beyond Scaling Up: Pathways to Universal Access to Health Services was a 2010 workshop that aimed to identify emerging challenges in health systems and develop new approaches through research partnerships. The workshop sought to facilitate systematic learning and health system change through long-term collaborations between public health and social science institutes, with close links to policymakers and health system managers. It recognized a need for mutual learning in a multipolar world with many centers of health innovation and experiences with managing change, to help countries rapidly learn from each other.
This document outlines Reshell Brooks' capstone project on the impact of integrating electronic medical records. It provides key dates like the February 24th submission date. It describes how Brooks will decide whether they are for or against electronic records by weighing the pros and cons and doing research. It also notes that meaningful use of electronic records will become universal and Medicare will penalize providers still using paper by 2020. The project's structure is outlined with sections for an introduction, resistance to electronic records, benefits of electronic records, and conclusion.

The document discusses developing a digital education platform to support Interprofessional Education (IPE) for clinicians in primary health care. IPE brings different professions together to improve collaboration and quality of care. Research shows collaborative practice can decrease complications and errors while increasing patient satisfaction. The project will review current IPE models, interview clinicians, develop online modules and a platform, pilot the program, and evaluate it with clinicians.
This document provides a blueprint for implementing interprofessional care in Ontario. It outlines the context, including demands on the healthcare system that necessitate new collaborative models of care. The blueprint was developed through extensive consultation with healthcare and education leaders. It presents 4 key recommendations to advance interprofessional care through actions like preparing current and future caregivers via interprofessional education, and supporting organizational structures, regulations, and policies that enable collaborative team-based care. The goal is to provide guidance to transform the healthcare system through system-wide adoption of interprofessional care.

Here is a research tip: We write the theory into a separate section in a research proposal so that readers can clearly identify the theory from other components. Such a separate passage provides a complete explication of the theory section, its use, and how it relates to the study.
Writing a Quantitative Theoretical Perspective
Using these ideas, the following presents a model for writing a quantitative theoretical perspective section into a research plan. Assume that the task is to identify a theory that explains the relationship between independent and dependent variables.
Look in the discipline-based literature for a theory. If the unit of analysis for variables is an individual, look in the psychology literature; to study groups or organizations, look in the sociological literature. If the project examines individuals and groups, consider the social psychology literature. Of course, theories from other disciplines may be useful, too (e.g., to study an economic issue, the theory may be found in economics).
Examine also prior studies that address the topic or a closely related topic. What theories did the authors use? Limit the number of theories and try to identify one overarching theory that explains the central hypothesis or major research question.
As mentioned earlier, ask the rainbow question that bridges the independent and dependent variables: What explains why the independent variable(s) would influence the dependent variables?
Script out the theory section. Follow these lead sentences: “The theory that I will use is _____ (name the theory). It was developed by _____ (identify the origin, source, or developer of the theory), and it was used to study _____ (identify the topics where one finds the theory being applied). This theory indicates that _____ (identify the propositions or hypotheses in the theory). As applied to my study, this theory holds that I would expect my independent variable(s) _____ (state independent variables) to influence or explain the dependent variable(s) _____ (state dependent variables) because _____ (provide a rationale based on the logic of the theory).”
Thus, the topics to include in a quantitative theory discussion are the theory to be used, its central hypotheses or propositions, information about past use of the theory and its application, and statements that reflect how it relates to a proposed study. Example 3.1, which contains a passage by Crutchfield (1986) from her dissertation, illustrates the use of this model.

Introduction
With the increasing importance of the Long-term care, there is rapid changes in the component of today’s social services delivery system following the aging of the population. It is thus becoming clear that the changes in the demographics continue to affect the demand for long-term care services and the availability of the professional in the sector to provide the much needed care. These developments have resulted in the increased demand for professionals in the long-term care services. However, the increase is also raising other issues including ethics, administration or management, technology, program development, and overall service delivery.
As a matter of principle, the social work service in long-term care settings is designed in a way that it can assess, treat, rehabilitate, and support care, as well as can preserve and enhance social functioning. That way, there must a unique combination of physical, psychological, and social interventions in provision of service in the long-term care environment and sector. That serves essential in promoting an optimal level of psychological, physical, and social functioning amongst the professionals in the sector.
Given the changes in the delivery of long-term care services along the spectrum, there is rapid evolution of the sector and the accompanying programs. Towards the same, this paper will cover critical areas that wholesomely address the different angles to view the social work service in long-term care settings. These areas include, ethical concerns and issues in the Long-term care sector, Management of human resources, administration of the healthcare, adoption of technology, and Development and Integration of Professional Core Values. There will be a detailed literature review of the different sources that address the areas of focus mentioned above (see reference section).

Abstract Worldwide health centre scientists, physicians and other patients are accessing, analyzing, integrating and storing massive amounts of digital medical data in different database. The potential for retrieval of information is vast and daunting. The objective of our approach is to differentiate relevant information from irrelevant through user friendly and efficient search algorithms. The traditional solution employs keyword based search without the semantic consideration. So the keyword retrieval may return inaccurate and incomplete results. In order to overcome the problem of information retrieval from this huge amount of database, there is a need for concept based clustering method in ontology. In the proposed method, WorldNet is integrated in order to match the synonyms for the identified keywords so as to obtain the accurate information and it presents the concept based clustering developed using k-means algorithm in accordance with the principles of ontology so that the importance of words of a cluster can be identified. Keywords: Ontology, Concept based clustering, K-means algorithm and information retrieval.
This document provides guidance for nurses on developing a policy brief to advocate for one of the recommendations from the Institute of Medicine's 2010 report "The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health." It outlines the components that should be included in a 2-3 page single-spaced policy brief, such as a short introduction stating the problem, the selected recommendation, background on the issue, current solutions and status, and a conclusion. Nurses are encouraged to write policy briefs to communicate health policy issues clearly to decision makers and advocate for changes that can improve health outcomes.
Identifying Structures in Social Conversations in NSCLC Patients through the ...IJERA Editor
The exploration of social conversations for addressing patient’s needs is an important analytical task in which
many scholarly publications are contributing to fill the knowledge gap in this area. The main difficulty remains
the inability to turn such contributions into pragmatic processes the pharmaceutical industry can leverage in
order to generate insight from social media data, which can be considered as one of the most challenging source
of information available today due to its sheer volume and noise. This study is based on the work by Scott
Spangler and Jeffrey Kreulen and applies it to identify structure in social media through the extraction of a
topical taxonomy able to capture the latent knowledge in social conversations in health-related sites. The
mechanism for automatically identifying and generating a taxonomy from social conversations is developed and
pressured tested using public data from media sites focused on the needs of cancer patients and their families.
Moreover, a novel method for generating the category’s label and the determination of an optimal number of
categories is presented which extends Scott and Jeffrey’s research in a meaningful way. We assume the reader is
familiar with taxonomies, what they are and how they are used.

This literature review aimed to develop an implementation tool for effective home assessment and modification interventions to prevent falls among older adults. The review identified 2 guidelines that recommended home modification to reduce falls. However, little evidence was found on the most effective combination of interventions. Home modification was effective for high-risk older adults, but interventions need to be tailored to individual risks and needs. An expert panel provided input on adapting the interventions for local sustainability and transferability.

Abstract
This chapter highlights international health informatics initiatives, international organizations involved in these initiatives, and how health practitioners such as nurses are involved in the activities of these organizations. There are numerous international health informatics–related activities that have been initiated across the different regions of the world. In addition academic societies within these regions are pursuing health informatics theory and practice developments. These international health informatics initiatives, along with associated academic organizations, are introduced here with brief histories and the key activities of each region. There are also several international organizations involved in the development of health informatics, such as the World Health Organization, the International Medical Informatics Association, the International Organization for Standardization, the International Council of Nurses, the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation, and Health Level Seven. These organizations are introduced with a short description of health practitioners' contributions to their activities. Finally, global issues in health informatics initiatives are also described.
Introduction
In many parts of the world healthcare is one of the largest sectors of the economy. As a result, health spending plays a major role in economic policy throughout the world with growing pressure on the healthcare industry to streamline costs, gain efficiency, and become more innovative in improving and maintaining the health of the population. Today the health industry around the world is looking for better ways of providing healthcare and improved health for all. The application of health information technology (health IT), called information and communication technology or ICT in international settings, to healthcare is seen as key to realizing this aim. The World Health Organization (WHO) uses ehealth as an umbrella term to cover all aspects of the use of ICT in healthcare. While the terminology differs—from health IT to ICT to ehealth—the goal of using technology to effectively and efficiently improve the health of individuals, families, and communities remains the same. An important differenc ...
The document describes the development of a Community of Practice (CoP) to bridge primary care and public health.
The CoP will have three main goals:
1) To identify and integrate primary care and public health approaches to address health problems in the local community.
2) To provide a forum for sharing best practices and lessons learned between healthcare professionals.
3) To make recommendations on collaboratively developed solutions that further the group's mission of improving population health.
The CoP will be hosted online and include faculty, students, and partners involved in the Primary Care Plus program. Initial discussions will focus on developing a charter and identifying potential community health problems to address through integrated primary care and public health
This document provides an introduction and overview of Theory at a Glance: Application to Health Promotion and Health Behavior (Second Edition). It discusses the importance and role of theory in health promotion practice. The document is intended to help public health workers and practitioners design effective programs by applying relevant behavioral theories. It contains three parts, with Part 1 providing foundations on the use of theory in health promotion. Theories can help explain health behaviors, identify factors that influence behavior and how they may be changed, and guide the development and evaluation of health interventions and programs. Both explanatory and change theories are important. The document emphasizes that no single theory is suitable for all cases and that practitioners should select theories appropriate for the issue, population, and context.

This document discusses the methodological and ethical issues around the use of connected devices in health. It summarizes that while connected devices promise to help change health behaviors through self-quantification and social support, there are still many open questions. Specifically, more research is needed to understand what components of connected devices are actually effective, for whom, and how they work. Additionally, issues around inequalities in access and the impact on privacy require further study. Overall, connected devices should be viewed as complex interventions and evaluated using theory-driven approaches to fully understand their outcomes and mechanisms of impact in different contexts.

Home and environmental hazards modification for fall prevention among the eld...Daiana Campani

1. Integrating terminology for integrated care
The method
This project involves integration based on collaboration between many stakeholders, and
takes an integral approach, as the integrated care terminology will be examined from
multiple angles.
Three groups of terms will be included:
1) New or emerging terms;
2) Terms already included in the online terminology of chronicity or in the online
dictionary of social services (both produced by TERMCAT), for which it will be
necessary to extend the definition in use, and
3) Terms already included in both previous dictionaries, for which it will be essential to
integrate the two definitions.
Final selection of terms and denominations has been carried out by a formal consensus
involving experts from PIAISS and external consultants (figure1).
Preliminary definitions come from the referent bibliography, which includes two previous
online dictionaries produced by TERMCAT, about chronicity and social services (see an
example in figure 2)

The project
To achieve social and health integration successfully, a strong conceptual framework must be constructed, in which terminology will play an important part. Professionals see the use of
a common vocabulary as one of the first needs for integration of health and social services.
Outcomes and future steps
At the present time, a working version of the dictionary has been developed, which includes 80
terms, with preliminary definitions and equivalents, classified in four thematic groups (figure 3).
170 experts are doing now a systematic revision of this proposal that will bring a pre-definitive
consensus on definitions.
Finally, this consensus will be raised to the revision of the Supervisory Council, the official body
responsible for the establishment of Catalan terminology.
Even though the object of this project is Catalan terminology, the agreements for Catalan
terminology should be useful for other contexts, as the discussion is not based on linguistic
questions but primarily on the concepts that are central to integrated care, which should be
established in all instances of care transformation.
PIAISS and TERMCAT colead the effort to build a formal consensus on integrated care
terminology.
The result will be a free online dictionary in Catalan with equivalents in English and
Spanish, with definitions in Catalan.
