Science Curriculum
Writing(Summer 2017)

Introduction
 Over the last few years, the district has noticed that a lot of our science daily
objectives/standards are not aligned with the South Carolina end of year test.
 As a district we believe the curriculum should be written by teachers, coaches, and
facilitators.
 WELCOME TO SCIENCE CURRICLUM WRITING 2017!!!
Description and Purpose
 Curriculums will be written for grades 1-
12. (Target Audience)
 The purpose of this writing is to set
students up for success everyday and for
their end of year test.
Course Length
 This course will be 2 weeks long.
 Teachers will meet from 8-3 everyday.
Goals
 Create Assessments that align with South Carolina state standards.
 Create activities that will prepare students to be successful on exams.

Curriculum Writing Course
 10 days
 Participants must bring technology(Laptop or Tablet)
 There will be a facilitator that will be available for questions or additional help in
each room at all times.
 End Goal:
 4 Assessments
 10 Learning Activities
Day 1 of Writing
 Morning: Meet in media center for curriculum writing overview.
 Presentation
 Requirements
 Guided Notes
 Afternoon: Disperse into 3 different rooms, and create groups within grade levels.
 Begin Writing
Days 2-4
 Writing
 Good/Rigourus questions
 Stay away from wordy and recall questions
 Make sure there is a purpose for activities,
and students will be able to make learning
connections.
Day 5
 Morning: Turn in 2 Assessments and 5 learning activities.
 Facilitators will evaluate assessments and learning activities.
 Afternoon: Implement changes suggested by facilitators.
Days 6-9
 Finish working on assessments and
activities.
 HAVE EVERYTHING TURNED IN BY THE
END OF DAY 9!!!!!!!
Day 10
 Morning: Implement changes
 Afternoon: Celebration of completion
 Pizza, Deli Sandwiches, and other delicious
snacks
Evaluation

 Rigorous
 Easy to follow
 Questions makes sense and are thorough

Instructional plan and presentation

  • 2. Introduction  Over the last few years, the district has noticed that a lot of our science daily objectives/standards are not aligned with the South Carolina end of year test.  As a district we believe the curriculum should be written by teachers, coaches, and facilitators.  WELCOME TO SCIENCE CURRICLUM WRITING 2017!!!
  • 3. Description and Purpose  Curriculums will be written for grades 1- 12. (Target Audience)  The purpose of this writing is to set students up for success everyday and for their end of year test.
  • 4. Course Length  This course will be 2 weeks long.  Teachers will meet from 8-3 everyday.
  • 5. Goals  Create Assessments that align with South Carolina state standards.  Create activities that will prepare students to be successful on exams.
  • 6. Assessments Goal and Objective  Goal: Create Assessments that align with South Carolina state standards.  Objective: Teachers will be able to create formative and summative assessments that align with the South Carolina State Standards.
  • 7. Strategies and Technology  Groups  Collaborative Learning  Creating Question Stems  Create Multiple choice questions and answers  USA Testprep
  • 8. Activities Goal and Objective  Goal: Create activities that will prepare students to be successful on exams.  Objective: Teachers will be able to create engaging, rigorous activities that

  • 10. Curriculum Writing Course  10 days  Participants must bring technology(Laptop or Tablet)  There will be a facilitator that will be available for questions or additional help in each room at all times.  End Goal:  4 Assessments  10 Learning Activities
  • 11. Day 1 of Writing  Morning: Meet in media center for curriculum writing overview.  Presentation  Requirements  Guided Notes  Afternoon: Disperse into 3 different rooms, and create groups within grade levels.  Begin Writing
  • 12. Days 2-4  Writing  Good/Rigourus questions  Stay away from wordy and recall questions  Make sure there is a purpose for activities, and students will be able to make learning connections.
  • 13. Day 5  Morning: Turn in 2 Assessments and 5 learning activities.  Facilitators will evaluate assessments and learning activities.  Afternoon: Implement changes suggested by facilitators.
  • 14. Days 6-9  Finish working on assessments and activities.  HAVE EVERYTHING TURNED IN BY THE END OF DAY 9!!!!!!!
  • 15. Day 10  Morning: Implement changes  Afternoon: Celebration of completion  Pizza, Deli Sandwiches, and other delicious snacks
  • 16. Evaluation  Rubric  Rigorous  Easy to follow  Questions makes sense and are thorough  Organization  Aligned Activities
